  1. Anyone replaced the pull rope on your trolling motor? Those dang things arent easy to get the old rope off. It broke where it ties inside the release cable. The Mrs. just left to get a new rope/cord so i hope going together is easier. After messing up the prop yesterday, and motor not running tops, and maybe going into shop, She just grinned at me when i mentioned, that in order for us to catch more, and larger fish, that we need to update our trolling motor, and in return, the boat would fish better in the wind, get us closer to hung up lines, and troll across the cove faster. Not sure those lines will work, but it was worth a try. May just have a new one on for saturday.
  2. Thanks FW, My knowledge of mechanics is automobile only, so my comments on maybe a vaccum related issue relate to that. On a vehicle, if you have a vaccum leak, it will change the rpm's, depending on how severe the leak. Thats a carb motor. My outboard is doing the same type of thing. Start it, let it idle for a bit, and the rpm's go from 800 to 2000 or more on its own. If i kill the engine, and fish for a bit, and start it back, same deal. Here are a few pictures I just took. The picture of my finger pointing to that screw shows what i pushed, to get it to idle down, but after about 5 seconds, it rose in rpm, even pushing that screw/rod. That is attached to 2 other rods, one on the right, and another on the left. I looked the motor over good this morning, and see nothing abnormal. But,mive been known to overlook things. I am a guy. Just stumped, without vaccum, that rpm can rise without touching throttle. Anything i can look at, test, replace, etc. without getting into a nickle and dime type of waste?
  3. See, im showing my lack of outboard knowledge. Yes its a carbed motor. The idle speed control valve, from what ive read, could possibly be it, but not reading how to check that. If im reading it right, this valve controls the air intake, thus controls the rpm's either low or high. The only maintenance done has been done by a yamaha mech. at the shop. Tinkering with the rods that connect the carbs today while on the water, they seem to operate smoothly. At the very bottom, there looked to be an idle screw. That is what i pushed on to get the idle down. It was hard to push in, and as soon as i let go, idle jumped back up, Could something in a jet cause this?
  4. Thanks FW" could it be the ISC valve? Or the ECU?
  5. 1998 Yamaha 50 Four Stroke. First time out today. Started first crank of the key. Ran good across the lake, then when i pulled it into neutral, it idle'd up to about 3000 rpm on its own. When we would fish down the shoreline for a bit, and fire it up to move again, it would idle normal for a bit, then jump to that 3000 rpm on its own again. I would have to shut it off, as not to jam it in gear at that rpm. As soon as it fired, i would click it in forward. It ran really good while in gear, with the load of the boat, but when you click it in neutral, it would high idle after a few seconds. I took the cowl off while it was running, and pushed on the throttle rod for the carbs, and got it to idle down, but as soon as i let go, back up it went. Vaccum leak possible? If so how many vaccum lines, places that draw vaccum are there?
  6. Its a nasty bug Bill. Ive had it twice over the years. They say it damages your lungs each time, and your lungs never recover from the damage. Yes it was a beautiful day.
  7. The better half and myself went out for the first time this year. Lets just say, weve had much better days. Started off loading poles in the boat at 9am. While trying to "softly" bend a 7' rod into a 6 1/2' rod locker in the boat, i heard that dreaded "snap". Pulled it out, and broke the end 6" off. Loaded the rest of rods in the bed of the truck. Got to Bolivar Landing, after planning to go to Eagle Rock, but got started late, then decided to head to Cedar Ridge on Stockton, but didnt. Unloaded boat in water, Mrs. parked the truck, got in at the dock, motored around the corner 1/2 mile to start fishing, and no rods. They were still in the bed of the truck. Fire back up and got the ol' 50 Yammie screaming back to the ramp, Just happen to look down in the wate as we were going around a point, and seen very shallow water. About that same time, yep, prop was eatin up gravel bar. Trimmed up, neutral, and floated over. Fired it up and made it to the dock. Checked prop and all 3 fins have damage. She got the rods, and off we went fishing. We fished for 4 hours. I got bite one time with no fish landed, and she got nothing. Water was really stained. We fished main lake points and went up the Pomme River. Threw Jerks, Jigs, Cranks, A-Rigs, nothing. We did meet a guy in a green/white Champion. Pretty cool guy. I turned him onto this site. Hope he checks it out, as like I told him, lots of info, and great people here. I even mentioned the Sat. OA get-together. O well, guess it beat working on a beautiful, 74 degree sunny day with my best friend.
  8. Quill, Ive got 5 folding tables. How many do we need?
  9. it should start getting good in that area. I would start on the curve north of the ramp, and fish the north bank past Highpoint.
