The weather leading up to the start of gun season 2017 is looking good. Saturday looks to be possible light rain, so im going out to setup my popup ground blind Wednesday just incase. Im not a gun hunter, but do it to be with my wife outdoors on her hunts, tho she archery hunts as well. This year im actually excited abut it. The land owner where i hunt "just west of Ava" text last nigt to say while out checking cows, they seen 2 bucks dogging does, that they hadnt seen before. That got me excited to go check cameras. So Wednesday will be blind setup and camera check one last time before us outdoorsmen get to feast on mother natures bountiful collections. Anyone else excited and prepared?

coming from a fairly poor family, we ate what us kids "3 boys" killed. Dove, rabbit, squirrels, fish, etc. My mom didnt cook much, but when her and my step dad werent at the bar fighting, he was a pretty good cook. The stuff he could do with wild game to make it taste great, was amazing. Im not a fish eater, just dont care for it. I eat it when i have to "fish frys", and not a big venison guy unless its ground in chili, or roast in crock pot. But gimme squirrel de-boned rolled in flour and salt/pepper and fried in bacon grease just until browned to hold in flavor, then add a can of cream of mushroom and cover/simmer for 2 hours, and i will eat like a king. As far as how poor wrench, i didnt own a new piece of clothing or shoes until i moved with my dad when i was 10. With alcoholic mom and step dad, us kids had to fend for ourselves. That meant lots of peanut butter on a spoon. Glad those days are over.

Had our final tournament of the year out of Bolivar Landing today. We fished 7:30 to 3:30 with a BBQ to follow. Weather had a slight breeze at launch with 57 degree water. Around 11 it slicked off. Fishing was consistent with small fish just under keepers, with a keeper every hour or so. We caught fish on a spinner bait "3 keepers" , Wiggle Wart "2 keepers" lost a good fish on a wacky work, few on a jig. Stayed cloudy all day and a light mist fell steady around 1:30. Great day to be on the water. We finished 2nd with little over 8 pounds. Aarchdale and his partner won it with a great bag of over 15 pounds and big fish. Congrats again guys.

Any time you see bucks bumping does is a good sign to start using scents. I will be out sunday and will have my wick hanging 30yards out.

Stressful last few plus days but finally got it done.

Man congrats on a dandy. As the guys said, kudos for sticking with the track. At times we as hunters get let down, usually by our own doings. In your case a shot not placed where you had hoped. Happens to everyone that hunts with a bow, or even a gun. Good job on keeping your chin up. P.S. I think i heard that odd scream in Greene County. -
Looking for someone to possibly pick their brain on starting a business website, or if not to expensive have it done.

A buddy sent me this picture this morning of his 9 year old grandsons buck. Quality buck for anyone. Look at that huge swollen neck. He said he was hot on a doe.

Yes ive got to much time on my hands this morning. Here are 3 of the greats in airgunning. If you have time, and arent bored easily, this is a great video.

Some great, affordable targets here. Really like this website as well. https://www.pyramydair.com/a/Accessories/Targets_traps_and_ranges/Metal/103

Been contemplating target ideas. Seen these steel targets with a hole in the center. Pellet goes thru the hole, knocks down the wood behind, dropping the target. Pull a string to reset target. Got a few steel worker buddies that could cut out different animals, sizes, different size holes, etc.

Nice picture BH. I also shoot Schwackers 100 grain. Shot probably 25 deer, 10 coyotes, few turkey with them, and have never had a malfunction. The yote the other day succumbed to it in a hurry. Shot Rage for years before that, but im a huge Hank Parker fan, and chatted with him afew years back here at Bass Pro. He convinced me to try them, and now thats all wife and i use with our compounds.

Wife and i got some shooting in, in the basement tonight. Got 4 guns sighted in. Heres a paper as we were getting the groups tighter. The bottom right hole has 8 pellets there. That was with the Gamo Silent Cat. Wife loves that gun, so im glad i have a different favorite. Ended up getting all 4 guns with tight groups at 10 yards. Thats with the cheapest Daisy pellets you can get. Word is after a few hundred the groups get really tight, and with better pellets. I bought better Crosman Premiers for after breakin period. . Tonight we shot 200 between 4 guns. Other picture shows from table to target, and target to table.

On a roll BH. Congrats.

Ive got a buddy with some property near Buffalo. That would save ya some time wrench. I still need to sight in 3 of mine. New scope should be here today so maybe a little shooting in the basement this evening.

Im kinda surprised by how many of us have, used to have, or want an air rifle. Gets myself thinking, since we get together for fishing, why not for hunting/plinking?

Coopers is still going. Not sure about Hidden, but couldnt amagine them not. I like the CooperCove area. Have fished from the bank there for 25 years. Every bass tourney, i find myself fishing that area. Good mid-point from dam to river.

Yes it is. Heard that from a few folks. Were lucky we live so close to a BPS. -
Fortrex or Maxxum
Ketchup replied to slothman's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
If you want a freebie, theres one about 400 yards west of the Ruark ramp on Stockton in 38' of water. Im sure its been well preserved the last 2 years down there. -
Fortrex or Maxxum
Ketchup replied to slothman's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I've replaced TM on the last 4 boat purchases "all within last 4 years" with the Maxxum. Theres a reason i always go back to that motor. I have had zero issues with anything about it. Great motors that will keep you on the water. I would suggest the variable speed instead of the 5 speed. The difference from 4 to 5 is overkill. Variable is perfect. -
Ness, I guess depending on the amount of liquid, after the 5 weeks til eating time, are they moist or dry tasting? Cant remember the taste of fruit cake. Tho i had it when i was a kid, its not something that stuck with me, like that awful taste of liver/onions or that lamb chops on the buffet at the Vegas strip. "puke"

yeck of an outting. Only been once in my 30 years archery that i have shot 2 yotes the same day. Predator control is important. Nice job.
-
Hence why i read constant about stock scope mounts coming loose after several shots, even with a loctite applied. The scope i ordered has a 1 piece mount that should eliminate that.

Ha. They still make those 880's. Even a few clubs around for those with them. Yes the air guns have come along way. Im pretty sure you would be impressed if you had one in your hands. 2 stage triggers, set poundage on the trigger like the big guns. Just ordered a Hammers 3x9x40 scope off Amazon to try. Thats something else. A normal riflescope wont hold up to an air gun, or so thats the word on the net from the factory. Wouldnt think an air gun would have any recoil, but they do. Had a little bruise on the right shoulder the other day after about 30 shots.
