Black Tip Sharks Navarre Beach Pier FL
JestersHK replied to Capt Scotty's topic in U.S.A. - South & West Regions
Yeah folks don't realize how close they get to them. I remember seeing an ariel video of a whole school of them right off shore. I absolutely love sharks and was a shark fanatic as a kid. Love catching them when I get the chance. I've taught my kiddos that they must be respected like everything else that can potentially harm you, but to not have the unnecessary fear of them being blood thirsty man eaters and purposefully attacking you. Taught them the same thing with snakes, spiders, and other critters. Irrational fear I could never really understand. Wife still freaks out that the girls will play with a spider or a snake when they find one, but she also is one who will not go swimming in the ocean due to sharks LOL. -

Yeah surf fishing at night I would wade out up to my waist to try and get my cast out into the 2nd trough... The first time something bumped my leg I decided I didn't need to wade that far out anymore at night LOL. Another great story was while in SC just south of Myrtle beach My oldest daughter was around 8 at the time and I told her to stick close to me while we were body boarding. I told her there were sharks, and she kind of shrugged it off as dad being Mr. protective dad. Next day we were Pier fishing and under the cleaning station about a 8 or 9 foot Tiger Shark surfaced. Pier was well within site of our Beach access her eyes got as big as saucers LOL. That night I caught sharks right from the beach where we were swimming during the day. She stays allot closer to me now when we go boarding. -

Nice! hooked into a nice black tip in March of last year in Destin. I heard they were good eating, but I cut this one off as I was leaving that morning to head back. Was free lining a cigar minnow for kings when he smoked the rod. They put up a good fight. -

Nice Red, and those sheep look tasty! Thanks for sharing. -
I've had good success with both 2 and 4 lb Maxima in green on Taney. Also used Vanish as well. Man when that Maxima snaps though it really KAPOWS!
-
Good news! A question of curiosity, but what is the maximum they can open the flood gates? Does this mean no more one casts out the window?

Saw your one cast from out the window Phil. Glad to see and hear that everyone is safe. Hope things start calming down a bit. Finally stopped raining today up here... Crazy amounts of water...
-
Phil, Saw your post and pics on my wife's Facebook... Unbelievable... Glad you and the Crew are safe. Have some time off work till January, and would be glad to volunteer my time to help with the clean up... Things look pretty bad down there. Please stay safe.

Our weekend has come and gone. Was a great time and amazing weather for December. We had an absolute blast with the tournament Saturday. Came in around middle of the pack which Brandon and I were pretty happy with considering our limited experience fishing Taneycomo from a boat. Water stayed on and up for the whole weekend, but we still waded from Outlet 1 down to 2 and picked up a few here and there. On to some pics. 1st up we saw a huge Bald Eagle and he flew right over us. Pics are pretty bad from the old iPhone. Followed up with some decent size bows and Brandons nice Brown. All fish in these pics were released quickly and were swimming away strongly(yay for high O2 levels and healthy fish!) Brandon may have a few more to upload here too. We're already looking forward to our next trip. Winter fishing has been a blast so far this year.

Nice Bow. Congrats on your PB. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks again for setting all of this up for us Phil. Had a great time today, and weather wise couldn't have asked for a better day on the lake.

Finished up a great day on the lake. This was only my 2nd time on Taney in a boat. Ended up with 15 total fish and my cuz landed 13. Fished mostly between fall creek and Phil's place. Caught almost all our fish on 1/8 oz orange head Sculpin pattern. Caught a few on a green woolly bugger too. Biggest fish was 15 inches, had a really nice one to the side of the boat but broke off. Saw a ton of wildlife which was awesome. Bald eagle, otter, musk rats, and deer. Little musk rat tried to get into my vest that was sitting on the dock... Overall a great day. We are heading down now to check out the outlets for a bit, but the waters been running all day. I'll get some pics up here if I can too.
-
It has begun... Waters up, but we just finished up at the outlets. Didn't see a whole lot of fish. No trout just. Few bites then bam rods bent and drag started screaming. Thought man this is a nice fish. Got him close and it was about a 2 lb striper. Caught him on a white maribou with a red neck. Last time down first fish was a gar... Now I'm catching bass. Lol more to come...

Yeah I second BP in Springfield. Pretty much a free indoor aquarium. The Alligator Gar are massive and a favorite of my kiddos. Over by the camping section they even have some live waterfowl running around. I find myself stopping in down there even when I don't have the kiddos with me as its just cool to see all the different fish species. The Basspro at the landing has a decent Trout wall aquarium and is close by, but thats about it. They lack the animal mounts as well. Some of the full mounts and the sheer number of mounts at the Springfield location is awesome to see.

Awesome, thought your name sounded familiar. Next time I'm down that way I will look you guys up for sure. Love me some ocean fishing, and I've been wanting to chase some reds for a while.

Anyone else excited for this weekend?

Can't wait to try out your jigs! And I will definitely be doing some photo updates from the water this weekend. -
Going down tonight to Taneycomo. Will try to do some live updates from the water this weekend. Unbelievable weather anticipated for this time of year. Should be great weather for seeing the lights TrophyFishR. We did that last month with the kiddos. The Polar Express train is really cool too if you have little ones still.

Dare I say the moon and stars are aligning for some epic trout adventures!?! Off to check how much water they are flowing. Wife may be correct in that I have an incurable disease called fishing... -
Very nice reds! Are you also on pensacolafishingforum.com? That site has been a wealth of info for me for the few times a year I get down south for some Salt water fishing.

Had this trip planned for a while now, will be my fourth trip down to Taney this year something I can never take for granted being a city slicker... Watching the weather it is almost unbelievable that its going to be in the 70's this weekend. Myself and FMCBrandon will be down fishing Thursday night likely by the outlets if the waters still on, Friday is up in the air, and then Phil's Tournament on Saturday... Tomorrow afternoon cannot get here fast enough Hope the O2 levels are still climbing and the fish are still biting! Hope to see some fellow forum members down there. If ya see us stop and say hello. Tight lines gentlemen

Kansasfly hit me up when you are thinking of going down. Need to get a January trip booked before the schedule fills up.
-
Nice catch! Glad to see One Cast working again

I am all booked up as well. My cousin and I will be down Thursday night. How are boat rentals looking? We are still undecided on wading versus boating. That's if wading is still an option? Thanks Phil!
