Toilet bowl and most of the river was packed today when we got into Basalt. We ate an early dinner at the Tipsy Trout then headed up to a few familiar holes on the pan. As soon as we left duvet it started raining... I hit my first spot and built rods in the rain and then it let up a bit to fish. We had a few bites and lost a few jigs then decided to go check out our trail head for our hike tomorrow to have cutts. I'm glad we did as right when I got out of the car I heard rock clattering down the side of the mountain. A good size black bear was running up. We all got to see him and take a few pics. The rest of the fam is not as excited as this will be the same spot our home starts tomorrow lol We stopped at 12 mile marker and the wife and I both caught brownies and she caught her first brown ever which was a good sized male. Mine was allot smaller lol. Both came in a jig as most of the river is so brushed in its hard with the fly rod for her to cast, and me too if I'm being honest 😆 Hopefully we have a successful home tomorrow and I want another shot at the breeding pair western slope cutts on this creek up the mountain I saw last time.

Thanks for the ID help. That was the biggest and most were smaller but very aggressive and ate both jig and fly. The Madison yesterday morning was all white fish no trout... pretty river but wanted trout lol. We're heading out to Basalt now. 4 hour drive to CO to the frying pan. I'm going to take the girls to the toilet bowl, and try to get the wife a brownie out of the Pan. Tomorrow morning we're hiking up to the little stream i found a few years back with the guys to catch some western slope cutts.

Won't be back in Cody. We're starting in west Yellowstone tonight then south tomorrow down into Utah, then cut through Colorado on familiar water. We did a ton today. Saw grizzly right by car, Buffalo right by us too. Some elk and mulies too. Fished a small spring and saw just a few fish. Hiked down off the highway and slogged through the marsh and started stripping a black wooly bugger. Hooked into my first brook ever and was surprised by the size and the fight. Crossed off another state and got my first Yellowstone fish. I know it's not a native but man was he pretty. Fishing the Madison in the AM, then winging it down to Jackson

Fished a bit yesterday, but all my stream plans went to crud with the rain... Google took me on a goat rodeo into the middle of nowhere as well wasting a few hours of my precious fishing time. In the end it was a beautiful place to fish but fishing heavy fast run off that was like chocolate milk was about what you'd expect. We rolled into Cody WY around 11 last night. Passed a ton of good looking water coming in but that will have to wait for a true fishing trip out here. The Tensleep Canyon was amazing though and reminds me about why I love the west out here. Up and after them today. Heading into Yellowstone and hope to have a better game plan for my fish time on the fire hole river today. Pics will be later, service is spotty...

Wife and my middle one are just here for the ride lol. We did petrified forest in Arizona a few years ago so they were less than impressed Flowers the bad lands lol. Sarah's looking forward to Yellowstone and her and Kierstin are really wanting to catch some fish. Fingers crossed the rain doesnt blow out this tail water in the morning or the road getting into it...

So found a cool fly shop (Dakota Fly Shop) and got some spots for the AM. Today was a mix of badlands, mount Rushmore, and I pre gamed a few creeks by our hotel in keystone. I found a spot with potential and then the thunderstorm hit... the white river in badlands was about dried out and was milky. I'm hitting the trophy section of rapid creek and maybe spring creek tomorrow before we do devils tower and crazy horse. Mount Rushmore was actually pretty cool. The presidents hiking trail was awesome minus the stairs back up on my bum knee which took a beating climbing in the bad lands today...

So I'm sitting in Kadoka South Dakota. 12 hours of driving into our trip to Yellowstone. I'm hoping to catch fish in ND, SD, WY, MT and maybe UT. I'll try to update when I have service

Very jelly Pete. Some nice ones there. Hope you're able to keep after em. Looking forward to more reports!

Made it back home. A good trip despite the water not cooperating for our wading attempts lol. I'm just going to have to get use to boat fishing i guess. This was def not a "fishing" trip and was more just a recharge and get away from our busy lives. Got stocked up on Yuengling to boot after we fished Norfork this AM before we headed back.

We got up early today and hit up wild cat. We picked around the edges and by the boat ramp and found a bunch of eager stockers to get the girls on. Our wives did great, and mine finally got her first trout on her pink fly rod lol. We left when the bait fishing parade showed up and it was getting hot so another day in the pool and then we tried to fish Rim shoals tonight but I only managed one off the little dock there. Had a blast though and the girls were troopers and everyone caught fish on their own. We leave tomorrow but I think we're going to try norfork in the AM

Nice job my friend. Glad to see you make it out. Good multi species day

Figured John and Pete would want some pics lol. They're pushing heavy flows so fishing has been a bit slow. We've found some few picking along the banks, but it's been hard to get the jig down in the boat. This is more of a relax trip for me with Rob and Brandon and the wives. We've spent more time chasing 12ozers than 12inchers lol. Riley's is great as usual and we're enjoying our time in the wild. Wife got her first Arkansas trout out of the way early too.
-
Thanks Pete, I'll get them all riled up for ya and tell ya what they're biting on. The fish not the womenz 😆
-
I'll make sure these two knuckleheads take some @fmcbrandon @BigHandsRob All of our wives are going too so we're likely going to be outfished by the girls all weekend
-
Thanks for the help! I love wading but realize we'll likely be in boats for most of this trip lol.

Brett and I were spot locked in the white near Buffalo shoals one time and we were on a herd of 12-13in fish... we caught them every cast and even hanging your jig in the water they'd bite lol... we could of easily sat there and caught over a hundred realistically, but I got tired quick of taking them off the hook 😆
-
I do enjoy numbers some times, but it's the big bite that drives me... after 20 or so fish I'm bored and will move or seek bigger elsewhere. Some dandy trout in that article though, thanks John for sharing

Good looking fish! We'll be down Thursday through Monday. We'll have one boat, but I was hoping for some more wadeable water. If you're willing to share where we can wade at you can pm me if you'd like! Maybe we can finally cross paths down there together. Thanks

Good luck Sandy, and if you're ever in need of a fishing buddy you got a bunch here that will try to join ya if we can.
