It's Finally Time! TR placeholder for the week
JestersHK replied to JestersHK's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Went out last night for a few hours, numbers were better, size was a bit smaller. Fished at rebar again and down below outlet 2 for bit. Fished a red midge and a pink San Juan again about 4 ft below an indicator. -

No fishing last night, sleep won the battle after some hard day's of fishing. We are off on a different adventure today. Herding cattle at silver dollar city lol. Going out tonight though for an all night trip as long as they aren't running water. -

Man, Phil put on a clinic landing that bow. Some guy who couldn't snag a fish did have some pretty nice net skills though. Beautiful day to be on the water. Thanks again Phil for the lessons! -

Headed back out after dinner, headed back to rebar now that the water was off. Switched to a pink San Juan worm and first fish was a beast. Not as big as the one earlier, but we did do some quick measurements. He was a tad over 4lbs and 19 inches long, but 5 inches tall. Caught 6 total up there, so it was still pretty slow, but they were all quality fish. -

He was definitely a football. Don't have length or weight, wanted to get him back in the water. I've measured allot of 4lb fish and he was way heavier than any of those. I'd guess at least 5lbs... Have some better pics but are all on the go pro. May be able to get length of of there with my app. -

We'll it wasn't a day of numbers... We started off above the boat ramp. Water was off, fishing was slow. Caught a few then decided to go hit rebar. Fishing was still slow then a big herd of them started coming upstream. A gentleman pointed out a big trout he said in the really shallow rapids. I headed over there and on my 3rd drift he hit on the San Juan. Was a nice big bow. After releasing him I saw another big dorsal fin sticking up in the shallows. I started my drift and bam it was game on. Heart was reaching and I finally landed my New personal best rainbow. He was an absolute pig. Heading in for some food before we head out to chase the browns again tonight. -
Dang, nice multi species day, or hour lol. That's getting it done.

Waters off now, landed another solid rainbow on the white pearl stick. Heading up for dinner as we wait out the water to settle. Going to head back out in a few hours. Man the fish are really colored up nicely. All strong and healthy too. -

Took it easy today and had a late morning start. Caught a few bows down by the boat ramp access jigging a Sculpin 1/32 orange head. Then the water came on. Headed up for lunch then came back and started fly fishing above outlet 1. Caught a few nice browns, and a few more out of the kiddie pool when we got bored. Fish were hitting a red and silver zebra midge, and also a few on a dark red sww. Dark now so we'll be back to throwing sticks -

Nap time till after the morning rush fished down to rebar, but was a pretty slow evening. Water was off and they were mostly just stacked up at the outlets. We did see a really nice 20+ inch fish cruising around. Caught a couple small stockers on a white maribous. Threw stick baits which landed all of the bigger fish, white pearl, and trout patterns on the sticks. -

Got down around 1:00. 4 nice bows so far. Not slaying them, but fish are quality and great fighters. All have been really colored up nice. -
Thats really awesome Ham. Took my pops out with the kiddos as well, and I also cherish the time fishing with all of them even though its more me working than fishing LOL Even though we only caught a few from the pond we had a great time.

In 12 hours or less should be in the lake! The time is here for my annual "cold weather" Taneycomo trip to chase some Browns. Myself and my BIL will hopefully get into them over the next 4 days of straight fishing. I'll try again to keep a live update going provided I can keep the phones juiced and out of the water. Saw they are running a bunch of water today, hopefully it gets them all riled up for us. Stay tuned

Sent ya a PM John.

Nice job John! Hopefully we get that Taneycomo brown crossed off the list here soon! Beautiful fish and glad you had a productive trip.

Headed down for one last trip of the season and to close up the camper. Got down around 4:30 on Wednesday fished in between the rain showers. Started at the dam jigging a 1/16th oz white maribou and started catching pretty quickly. Fish were a tad on the smaller size, but I kept my limit and finished up at dusk. Thursday morning I headed up by the dam to start the day off. I switched to a 1/8 oz white and grey maribou to hit the deeper holes and it was just about a fish every cast at the whistle. Morning bite stayed hot for a while and the fish size was above average with a few at 16inches. Nice healthy strong fighters. After I got bored of jigging I switched to the fly rod and hit the stream below the dam. Fished a crackleback and picked up a few here and there as I made my way down below the bluff wall. Took out at the outlet and headed back up to the other side of the dam. I fished a tri color glo ball about 4ft under a float by the railing and it was game on. Bigger fish again than what I'm used to down there. I walked upstream a bit and fished around the disabled access ramps. Saw a HUGE otter swim by that made me do a few double takes. Thing was enormous. Finished up throwing a 1/32oz john deer maribou and landed a few more. Fished till around 4 and headed back home. Brought 48 to hand so not too shabby of a day. Beats working anyways Sorry no pics, phone was dead...

Man nice report. Looks like the brownies have definitely moved up! Thanks for sharing!

Nice choice Al. The 69 will treat you well. I know its probably obvious but please wear some quality ear pro with the .44 mag. I have some permanent hearing loss from Deer season last year where I only had one ear plug in... A good solid 3 weeks of hearing eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Nice job! Very envious of your time in the woods and on the water. Love the bike setup too.
-
Nice job! Love seeing those browns, and that one looks fat and healthy. Assuming you fished by the outlets?
-
If you have never fished there at night please be careful. Bring a partner if possible, and a good headlamp.
