  1. Gitnby, are you looking for a ride from TRL to STL area? I will be coming to STL on Monday the 19th. Mike
  2. Sounds like you guys had a great time AND caught fish also. This forum brings so many people together that otherwise would remain strangers. Congratulations to all of the forum members. You folks make me proud to be a member. Mike
  3. I finally got out for a couple of hours today. Put in at Moonshine about 1:30pm and was heading to Beardsley but remembered that there are no fish in there so I went past the State Park Marina and fished a couple of main lake points on the east side of the lake. I was trying out my new jerk bait rod (gloomis E6X series 782c MBR - sweet) and caught 3 short LMs on a sinking jerk bait. All three hit when the lure was stationary. All were in <10 fow. Only stayed out a couple of hours and then the temperature really began to fall. By the way the water temp was 58.9 to 59.4. Saw a couple of boats running and a couple of fisherman on other points. Because the lake is low, I could see a number of lures stuck in trees that are usually submerged. I saw 2 spinner baits, 3 shakey heads and a lizard but they were just out of reach. All in all it felt good to finally get back on the water if only for a couple of hours. Mike
  4. QB, it looked very windy out there. I decided to pass and will give it a shot on Thursday. Thanks for the information. Mike
  5. Jim, sorry to hear that. I'm sure the bank will take care of it. I have my debit card set up with notifications to my iPhone and email every time money goes in or comes out of my account. Not sure it will prevent attempts. Mike
  6. Smalls, sounds like you and your brother had a good time. Catching fish was the bonus on that day. Thanks for sharing. Mike
  7. Champ, thanks for the report. If this wind dies down to a reasonable breeze I will get out this afternoon. Nice picture. Donna, your nose looks cold. You need one of those buffs that Quillback wears. Mike
  8. Cheese, nice pictures. good information about the JB. I might try one Monday afternoon in Long Creek if i get my chores done. Mike

    flying fish

Well I guess I have tell my Loon story. A few years ago our family was vacationing near Merrill WI at a private retreat house owned by a group of nuns. The mother superior was a friend of the family and we spent a week with her there every year. They have an 80 acre private lake nestled in a 275 acre parcel of land. My brother-in-law, one of the nuns and I were fishing and enjoying a beautiful day. There are a mated pair of Loons who are permanent residents on the lake. As we were casting a crankbait for bass one of the Loons went for a dive. Just then my brother set the hook and the fight was on. Eventually the Loon came to the surface with the crankbait dangling from the bill. We got the Loon to the side of the boat and while I was removing the hook, my brother-in-law was consoling the nun who was crying uncontrollably. The nun made us move to the other side of the lake away from the Loons. Mike
