  1. Thank you very much, I think it would be a precious treasure to find and catch a walleye of any size from what might be the most beautiful natural area in the state. If I were to land one it would go back in for sure, the picture would be great ! It sounds like it would be a costly quest for someone like me who lives so far away. Thanks for taking the time to share the info, might be something for the bucket list.
  2. I have heard that there is a population of walleye in some of the river systems there. I am 5 1/2 hours away, so I would appreciate any shared info. I used to do a lot of back packing and small mouth bass fishing when I was younger, I remember it as beautiful country, that was 30 yrs ago. I hope it is still the same.
  3. I bought some, they have great colors this year !
  4. I now have braid on all my spinning reels. I love it even for light tackle, but I tie a leader on, it doesn't really matter what kind of leader, for different applications I use different things. 6# p line green in the creeks and 10-12# flouro carbon on the lake. I tie it in with a double uniknot then reel it up near the reel so my leader is about twice the length of the pole. This give me plenty of chances to tie on before I have to retie a leader. Always keep braided line scissors with you. Buy good braid that is slick, I like power pro, or spider wire. Both bands are have some kind of coating that seems to make them more smooth, I am sure every band has something about the same. When I first began this braid journey, I thought I would save some money and go with academy brand all I can say is don't do it, it is strong enough, but it is like a dang saw going though the eyes of a fishing rod. I try to store my rods out of direct sunlight this seems to make the line last longer. My trolling poles have had the same line on them for a year, when I used something other than braid (for trolling) I would have to change it every other trip. Sensitivity is awesome, castiblity is fair, but you get used to it. It casts better when wet. So far so good, all my poles have it.
  5. I thought I could get one walleye for every month. I thought it would be a neat personal goal, but I blew it for January. February isn't looking to good for me.

Thanks for all the info you post, it has been very helpful.

  6. I have done it but not this late in the winter, it worked well on Table Rock in the fall, and I have caught some walleye on Stockton in the fall. I was using a 1/2 oz basspro jiggy twitch it spoon in about 30 or so feet of water. See my video below A week ago at Stockton my wife caught a white bass in 70 FOW on a gold 5/8 lipless crank bait it was 45 ft down ! Good luck
  7. Thanks you all are great ! I will post the results, maybe we will get a couple walleye in the boat too !
  8. Check out the tablerock forum, looks like they are catching bass like crazy. I was after walleye figured my odds were better at Stockton. I will be going to the rock next trip... I think ?? Note I have caught walleye on tablerock just not as many, I figured if the bass are hot maybe the walleye are too.
  9. I fish Stockton quite a bit, but my wife would like to try for a musky on her birthday. All though I have fished pomme I don't know much about this bite. Stockton has been tough the last 5 weeks or so, I was wondering how pomme is. I need all the help I can get, don't really want to come back empty handed. I need a good picture of the wife with her first musky, photo shop is not an option. Thanks
  10. Yep lots of suspended fish, I think they are just living at the grocery store right now. Who wants to bite a nasty lure when you have 50 million bait fish right over you ?
  11. I bought this exact same unit for my 75 hp merc. I love it ! I could only troll at 3 mph with out it now I can get less than 1 mph. I would caution you on this one thing, don't forget and leave it down. I was unloading the boat in a tail wind, and forgot to flip it up, then I put it in forward and punched it. Not good ! It was and easy fix, I just flipped it up at the dock and stood/jumped on it now I am back in business. For me it was the best was to go. I use it every time I troll. I also use it in conjunction with my trolling motor (my trolling motor has a handheld remote) I use a bungee on the steering wheel so it won't creep then I only us the trolling motor for steering, it's awesome ! Something else to consider... My previous boat was lighter it had a 40 hp yamaha with a 45 lb 12 volt tolling motor. bought an extra reconditioned battery ($50) and wired it parallel I could troll all day and not have to listen to the motor. Hope this helps check out this video I made while trolling for walleye it's pretty funny it works !
  12. Well how did you do. I did not do well at all. I hooked into one just enough for a couple good head shakes and then he was off.

I have not done very well for Jan, and Feb.

  13. One place I will be trying is maze creek. I have never been very far down in it, but I am thinking it could be good.

I didn't post this in the public forum, because I didn't want 97 people fishing with me but a couple folks might not be bad.

There is a lot of timber so if you go there be careful.

Thanks, I have never tried to hide any info until now. That's what I get for trying to be sneaky

  14. One more thing the ramp at cc is full of trees but many of us got in, no dock.
  15. tried it saturday ( turnback ), no luck, 1 pm temp was 47. water is very high, and dark green, fish could be in the grass. Some folks were having luck with crappie under friend bridge. I was looking for fish with teeth.
  16. Red Green is my hero !
  17. Sounds like you had to work for it, but I would have loved to had a day like yous. We had one white bass in 70' of water at 40' that was it for the day, the sunset was awesome though !
  18. Sometimes when I get the "Can't go fishing blues" I do a little planning with this map. It is a little clumsy to use but the contour is good. I use Topo Quest for Table Rock too.
  19. I agree, it looks crazy, and active, but not real. It still might work. Think of the spoon, or a crawler harness, neither are life-like, but both work well.
  20. Thanks, I thought it would go like that if I went. I think an overnighter is in order for the wife and I. I agree friday and saturday looks like some unbelievable weather.
  21. I have not caught 1 fish for this month, there has been a lot keeping me off the lake ( those dang responsibilities ) , and when I do go conditions are not ideal. Maybe I can live vicariously through someone else. Going to try next weekend, maybe ??
  22. Last weekend At Ruark Bluff the water was like chocolate milk, about 3" above 215 state park area, was about 3 feet and it was windy. I will be there Sat. I intend to put in as near state park as possible. I hope this helps
  23. I hope to give it a try again this weekend. I can't wait to do a little rethinking. Hopefully we can meet out there sometime.
