For the first 150 yards, both the .30-30 Win and the .30-06 Springfield have very similar trajectories. It’s from this point that the two begin to deviate pretty drastically. Until the 350 yard mark, there is still only about ten inches differences between these two rounds, but beyond that, the .30-30 drops like a brick. By the 500 yard mark, we are looking at 75-80 inches difference between the .30-30 and .30-06 round. Just like we mentioned with the velocity, there just not enough force generated to keep the .30-30 bullet flying as straight as the .30-06 bullet of the same weight. Maybe because the actual sheet length is 16 ft, once the sheet is rounded up to make the bow, the over all length is becomes 15'10" ?

Thoughts, good bad, gimmick ? Good for fish ?

I haven't been to Stockton in a while, August, I think. I thought that I had forgotten how to fish, but the little 1/4 oz Binks Arkansas shiner helped me gain some confidence. I had a mixed bag of small fish, I brought these home. I was a really nice day.

I have caught several under feeding bass. If you kind of make a short cast out away from the mob of feeding fish, let it fall below where you think the bass are, then work it like a wounded minnow under the school it works pretty good sometimes. I pick it up one good jump, let it die, then a couple of short weak hops, then a bigger jump, that kind of thing. My uncle caught a couple in 50 ish feet of water the other day. I think he said 5 keeper bass, 1 keeper walleye, 3 shorts, something like that. At night they get shallow.

I have always wanted to do the new years current river float. Is it still going on ?

No, but this area has a lot pressure on it. It is close to a ramp, wide and slow, perfect for a new kayaker. He had fun, and that was the goal.

1st time in a kayak for him, I would add that he has grown up on the creek, and in the woods. I will probably get a thrashing for the lack of a life vest but that's ok. He is a natural in the yak.

I think walleye like 6 ppm and 60 degrees, last I read. Sucks to be a walleye right now. I reckon they would be in the 26ft range. Does any one know what happens where a spring comes in, does the DO go up or down ?

It's all fun until you almost die once then it kind'a changes things, if I am alone, I'm good, if I am kayaking or canoeing with someone, I get extra alert. Considering weather, and the time it takes to plan and float safely, this is an awesome accomplishment, a lifetime of float trips, I can't imagine all the neat scenic views !
