I remember seeing a post a while back regarding mountain lions and Missouri. Well, at least one was here. Not anymore though after playing frogger on the highway. http://fox2now.com/2017/01/23/mountain-lion-struck-by-car-on-i-70-in-warren-county/

Thank you for having tracking information available before the items even leave your shop. Being a manager for my day job, I can't tell you how much this makes a difference for keeping track of things. It is such a nuisance having to contact companies in order to get tracking nowadays, when with technology it should be easily and readily available.

Drug deal gone bad? Doubtful. Tough times nowadays. Drug dealers can't even catch a break from gossip, bad press and rumors.

Arkansas Residents Grow Weary Of Michigan Anglers
mreed81 replied to Plastic_worm's topic in White River
This article sounds very familiar to what I see on Fly Fishing Lake Taneycomo facebook page -
Whenever we have a cold spell like the other week you can bet those vermin are gonna come up the spring arm for the warmer water.

1. Purchase and build out a jet boat by mid summer. 2. Find new water and catch a lot of Smallmouth on my new 7wt fly rod.

Good to hear you had some success! Yeah, it is definitely seems a bit tougher this winter compared to last. Either way we all enjoy that creek the same, and the trees get decorated with lots of flies and tippet.
-
Merry Christmas to you and yours too, Bill. I think it will take about 3/4" to 1" of rain to murk things up on the creek, or at least a few days in a row of light precipitation. Last winter was never short on precipitation and I think this winter might be the opposite.

Decided to continue the tradition I started last year and fished BSC Christmas Eve morning. Started at sunrise and quit around 10:00 AM. The water level and flow were both a little bit higher from the rain on Friday but the creek is still very, very clear. Nymphing the riffles with Flashbacks and grey scuds worked pretty well. Didn't catch anything of any huge size but caught several small creek specials. Great way to spend a morning. Also, I did notice that some of the mature Fall/Winter spawners in the creek are starting to make beds in some of the slow runs. Please be cognizant of that if you do fish there. Watch them do their dance, etc and move on to the next riffle or pool to fish. Merry Christmas everyone!

Not to rub salt on any wounds but there is a creek South of Indianapolis close to where my wife and I visit a couple times a year and the regs really surprised me there. The regulation/limit for this creek is 1 Smallmouth, minimum 20" per angler.

Pardon my ignorance, but I need some help clarifying the Rock Bass regulations. It is stated that " The regulation changes also set a statewide length limit of seven inches for rock bass (also called goggle-eye, warmouth, Ozark bass, and shadow bass) and remove the Osage Fork of the Gasconade River from the Rock Bass Special Management areas." If there is a statewide length limit then why would they remove the Osage Fork and Gasconade River from the special management area? If they are in Missouri would that not fall in the "statewide length limit"? I don't keep Rock Bass anyway so I don't necessarily care about what the limit is, but the wording seems off to me.

From the sounds of it they have put an actual business together to manufacture these and sell them to bait shops, etc. I believe Mitch is giving a presentation to the Smallmouth Alliance in January regarding the craws. Based off that I would expect them to be available sometime 1st quarter of 2017. Just my guess though.

Awesome! I came across some for the first time ever last year and had to look up what the heck it was lol. Yes, I'm a city slicker.

those ponds don't need much help in regards to being over pressured since they already are. The internet won't cause more people to show up, they are already there. Congrats on the catches. Funny how a naysayer catches some of the bigger fish that were stocked!
-
Bummer with no fish to hand. By first parking lot do you mean way downstream?
-
You are correct. Either way while some of us don't necessarily get all jumpy over it, the program isn't a bad idea.

I get what you're saying, as a kid I grew up fishing Trout parks and had a blast. But ever since I started fishing Blue Ribbon Streams for wild Trout and other Ozark streams for smallmouth the parks just don't do it for me. With that being said the Urban Trout thing is a good thing for a lot of people. Some of those people in that "ghetto" that you called it probably don't have the means to travel very far, and wouldn't be able to catch Trout otherwise. This also boosts Trout stamp sales for MDC, which believe it or not does help the overall program MDC has. I know, you have your complaints about MDC as well but if this program can boost revenue for them and some people can catch some trout and feed their families a different kind of dinner then I say it is a great thing overall. May not be for me or you, but we have access to a lot of water that inner city people probably don't.
-
Good for you, Bill! Sounds like a solid day on the water.
-
I started out down by the rebar hole and when people started thinning out I moved my way up to the outlets. There weren't many people to begin with around the outlets but the thought of 4 people all throwing streamers with fly rods in the dark didn't seem very appealing!

Made it down last night for a bit, second time to Taney for me. The full moon was nice and bright in between cloud cover, and had the fish jumping all over the place. Mouse patterns didn't produce despite a lot of surface action on water. Hooked two with a Bugger pattern, Brought one to hand, the other one that got off felt bigger but that's just a part of fishing and part of the game! Third brown trout for me, and so far the largest. I'll hook into one of those monsters soon enough.
-
Thanks. Went down for my first time a couple weeks ago and did decent in numbers, but nothing huge during the day with scuds, and only one Rainbow during the night. I didn't have anything big to throw at night so that probably didn't help.
-
I think I'm going to make it down tomorrow (Saturday) night around midnight and throw some big nasty flies like muddler minnow and mouse patterns and see if disturbing the surface with those doesn't land me my first big Brownie. Anyone else plan on being down there?

BSC - Any Otter trappers out there?
mreed81 replied to mreed81's topic in Wild Trout Creeks & Streams
Racing season is winding down and ending next weekend so I will have much more time to fish after that. I'll be reaching out to you soon to meet up and catch some. -
Went down to BSC this morning. Was hoping to find a little bit high water with a dark green tint. Instead I found water that was a little higher than I expected, but still more than fishable, and it had a hint of light brown color to it typically meaning that fishing would not be the best. Figured I would do half of the run I had planned on in order to not waste the hour drive. I ended up catching three Trout within in an hour and a half, which was not bad considering the conditions. One thing I did see which was kind of neat, but kind of not so neat as well was a family of five River Otters coming down stream playing, splashing, and knocking each other off of logs. That was the neat part, but by now I imagine you are picturing the bad part. They were decimating all aquatic life from bank to bank. If you have ever fished BSC you would know that it wouldn't take long for a family of 5 Otters to wipe out an entire pool of trout, if not an entire stretch, and it appeared they were on their morning stroll of a long stretch of the creek. I yelled at them and explained how the fish they were killing were under the legal limit, but they acted as if they didn't understand me... After talking with the Camp Mihaska Director last year, he said from time to time they have big problems with them eating the stocked trout in the lakes, but typically only in really cold winters when the river gets too cold do they start coming up the creek because of the warmer water, but it is not winter so that is a little unsettling.I know it is just another animal that is part of Nature's balance but someone go out and catch those Vermin, or refer me to a trapper lol!
