Picked up my Spring Tag yesterday Marcus... we have been hearing a bunch of gobblers back in Big Bay. I have never hunted down there but am planning on setting up here in 2 or 3 weeks to try and get one. I have taken a lot of Turkeys, but all have been in Kansas on farms. This will be my first attempt to take one in the woods, should be interesting. I actually saw a nice one roost right next me to last weekend while fishing, so I know right where he is . My plan is to set up 2 hens and 1 Wimpy Jake about half way up the mountain in a clearing and call just a little bit to see if I can drive any action. Any pointers for me?

Is anyone willing to share a pic of what their wobblehead set up looks like? I threw one this weekend with no bites on it, but not sure if I had the setup quite right. I was able to get my first fish ( a nice one as well ) on Merc's Nu Tech w a brown craw right off a bluff wall between Campbell Pt. and Big Creek. That was a fun bite. We also got hit on some top water action as well - only 1 smaller fish but was glad to see that bite turning on. Here is a pic of the fish as well as the wobblehead set up that I am not sure if I have set up correctly

Nice morning Bigmo! - thanks for the heads up - I'll make sure to be looking out for the top water action on early mornings this weekend.

Awesome report and nice fishing!

I don't envy the guides. I've been on ocean guide trips and a guide trip at LOZ that did not produce many fish and there were some unhappy fishers who had to cough up some $$ - High pressure gig.

Good question, I am not sure. --- I have pictures that I was looking through that were taking on this date last year and we caught some nice fish on a simple Texas Rigged big worm, I guess I might as well try it again, not sure why I haven't.

The county line actually runs directly through the small cove/pocket to the left of the house / dock - So our house and dock are in Stone County while Whip Poor Will Resort to our left on the other side of that small cove is Barry County

If you guys hear a guy screaming OAF!!!! from the dock or shoreline in Big Creek, pull on up!

Awesome stuff Merc! I picked up a few of those custom jigs - I could not find an uncle john craw trailer - any suggestions on a good trailer I can put on?
-
Bill - I know you have a side gig as a weatherman, what are your thoughts on Friday / Saturday ? Is this weather going to clear up for us and provide some good fishing for Fri - Sun?
-
Nice, I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.

Very interesting, appreciate the details.

DTRS - Why is the bite going to get harder? I figured things would start to pick up nicely over the next 2-3 weeks?

Good stuff Merc! - I believe my buddy Andy ordered some jigs from you a couple days ago. Looking forward to getting them tied on!

My Lews Speed Spool Combo arrived yesterday... I was like a little kid on Christmas.... I'm gonna get her out on the water tonight for some trial and error. Here is Babbler's advice from a week or two ago for any other bait casting beginners. I had 10lb mono at the house so that is what I ended up spooling on. Let me ask you this - I want to throw a Ned tonight - I am thinking of keeping that on my spinning tackle and putting something heavier on the bait caster to get the feel, thoughts? Maybe a rock crawler or a jig. To make casting perfect, it comes with a dual braking system with magnetic casting control and centrifugal braking The reel has a10 baring platform with very good matched ball barings and you can find it from $119.00 to $139.00 Pair this with a Medium to Medium Heavy 6'10" to 7' dual handed casting rod and you have a piece of equipment that will serve you for years and years, and fit most any application that may arise on the Rock Spool the pair with 12 pound Carbon line and you got a really good start. Tighten the Centrifugal brake to 10 on the side scale and tighten the round magnetic brake till it is finger tight. put a 1/2 oz bait on the line after you run it thru the rod guides and depress the reel spool. The line should stay on the reel. Turn the round magnetic brake one click at a time to the left or counter clockwise until the line starts to unspool, Let the bait drop to the floor. If no back lash is inside the reel you are ready to go. When casting place your thumb on the spool release with the very tip of your thumb resting on the spool be in a position to be able to make a full cast. Place your left hand on the butt of the rod in a two hand grip and throw it in a lob, WITH FORCE. Your bait should go higher than it does far. Repeat this procedure lowing you heights and extending your distance. One good tip, is to never cast to the water, cast to the shore or trees behind the water so the bait sails and falls.

Good stuff 176 - my original email stated that I would receive the rod/reel on March 22nd, but just checked tracking and it is due for arrival tomorrow at my house. Hopefully they will get yours shipped out quickly as well.

Thanks again for the help ABK - glad to hear everyone thinks it will be a good set up for me. It arrives tomorrow!

Nice Champ! Are they the exact same? Yours is model LSG1SHMG610MH I believe mine is a LP1SH610MH maybe just different model numbers bc I bought mine through cabellas. You came away $20 richer than me, I did get some free shipping though.
