  1. Flintlock muskets and town raised soldiers, the injun gal was the hunter they had.
  2. Some of mine were set so light when new that they began to drip or trickle when a few months old and some the handle moved over time from use. Use caution though, too much down pressure will break the rubber "ball" that screws to the end of that rod and then you will have to take it apart, usually that will be more of a keeps running situation ime.
  3. ya might try just adjusting the dang handle (use the square head bolt) so that it pushes the rod down a bit more and seats the valve in the bottom tighter. or dig it up first, the shut off and waste should be about two feet down. nah, if adjustment doesn't work and it usually does; heat the head where it screws on to the stand pipe, let it cool, heat it again and proceed with MOPanfisher's instructions with two pipe wrenches and two red neck kids- one to hold the stand pipe still and one to turn the head. They sell repair kits that include all the rubber parts. I'm sure that you can type "repair outside frost free hydrant" in your favorite search engine and find video and written instruction with pictures.
  4. "On 9/30/2007 at 3:46 PM" this reminds me of the Tardis. "Last visited October 4, 2008" I wonder if Trouthunter777 still lurks?
  5. I don't try to interpret coyote talk either when trapping them, but I know they communicate and join forces when hunting. Most, or maybe all animals also use visual communication like the white flag a deer waves. There is an ocean fish that tells octopus where a prey fish is hidden, so they can share the feast. Once we accept that fish may communicate, we may come to realize that the fish we call game fish are the dummies of the fish world that fail to warn others.
  6. do a search of the web for 'fish communication'. many fish make sounds that carry farther underwater than in air, it's how schools synchronize swimming and probably a component of pack hunting like coyotes.
  7. past thread
  8. I have read that RBT only live 6 years, so not that old maybe as much as very well fed.
  9. Comments made said the feeling is the mine won't be able to comply in time; people that know more than me are celebrating. Like the man said it ain't over til it's over, and as long as there is possible profit there will be attempts to collect that profit. TU email; Today is a day to celebrate. Yesterday, federal decision makers announced that they cannot issue a permit for the Pebble mine as proposed under the Clean Water Act, sending the company back to the drawing board and setting up a major hurdle for the ill-conceived project. After more than 15 years of working to protect Bristol Bay, together we have taken great strides toward stopping the proposed mine—but the permit decision isn't final, and until then, our work isn't done. The sigh of relief is shared by Bristol Bay businesses, local Tribes and communities, and every one of us who has been captivated and united by this unique and awe-inspiring region and its epic salmon and trout fisheries. I am so immensely grateful for your persistence, your generosity and your time. But we still need you to make your voices heard. And we need your continued support. Here’s why: Trout Unlimited has always had two goals when it comes to Bristol Bay. Stop Pebble. We took a giant step toward accomplishing that yesterday. Work with local communities to secure up-front, permanent protections against large-scale mining for the Bristol Bay region. Today, we celebrate our progress toward #1 and we commit to #2. Your financial support is needed to get us there. We look forward to moving the Bristol Bay conversation beyond Pebble and toward permanent protections that ensure this special place, and all the communities, people, and fisheries that depend on it, can continue to thrive. For more than 15 years, Trout Unlimited has helped to connect local people, commercial fishermen and women who rely on the region’s salmon fisheries, as well as anglers and hunters across America, to protect Bristol Bay. We applied the best of what TU has to offer: organizing tools, science-backed policy expertise, a nationwide grassroots network, and legal acumen. From King Salmon, Alaska to Washington, D.C., we never wavered in our defense of Bristol Bay. We will continue to work toward the denial of Pebble’s permit, while supporting the protections this one-of-a-kind place deserves. Just as we will continue to work to protect rivers and streams in communities near you—in all corners of this country—to make fishing better and water healthier. Join us today in celebration, and join us tomorrow in keeping up the good work that gets the job done. In gratitude, Chris Wood
  10. I recall when Bill what his name made the cast wearing one shirt and a moment or two later reeled in a fish wearing a different shirt, or he would tie on some great lure and talk about it while casting it a few times then set the hook and reel in a fish that had a different lure in it's face, I only saw a couple of his shows but I guess he was on weekly for years. Point being that fake fishing is a tradition in in video work. That movie star never caught the fish in that movie either.
  11. CAs and river access typically come under the Forestry Division and like I said they took down all pit/vault toilets in this area years ago, at the accesses the woods are full of it with t-shirts etc. used as wipes and left behind. Some folks must be scairt of the woods because there are piles left in the edge of the gravel too, I assume they used a car as shelter/blind? Back when they took down the vault toilet at Cowskin, I asked the Forester and was told he had no employees qualified/designated to maintain them and the public had complained about their condition. If there is no toilet there is no cleaning problem. The inebriated swimmers just use the creek? It's serious problem that will get worse as more people use the outdoors. Somebody start one of them digital petitions that we can all sign. If a state agency provides a parking place they must put in toilets- sure and then they will take out the parking lots. Ask for or demand a toilet at every ramp?- sure thing, no more ramps.
  12. Sugar Creek? "Most recent instantaneous value: 53.4 08-25-2020 10:15 CDT" That is down stream as far as you can go before the confluence with the Elk and at 54CFS it is a bit higher than normal still. Not a "river" by most people's definition and it has never had trout in it unless they were escapees from the POA bass feeding program in your "lakes" or the old trout pens in old Bella Vista. Can't be even in both Bentonville and Bella more than about 4-5 miles total and the pools are what 3' deep? Never 40 miles. White River "down south" (near Fayetteville) - "Discharge, cubic feet per second: Most recent instantaneous value: 11.6 08-25-2020 11:00 CDT" That is less than 12CFS not a river. No trout there either. At Elkins the White is only 4CFS. For comparison the Clackamas River is currently at ~800CFS, White River below Bull is ~17,000CFS
  13. Wading river type fisheries or haul a boat to the lake fisheries?
  14. I'll give interpretation a shot; the gulf of Mexico is down stream of Beaver Lake but isn't the tail waters of it, Taneycomo is downstream from Beaver but isn't the tail water. Bull Shoals Lake is part of the White River but isn't considered a river. Typically when anglers talk about the "White River" they refer to the part down stream from Bull Shoals Dam, when I think of the Beaver Lake tail waters, it is the stretch between Beaver Dam and 62, but I guess it could include the part on down to Houseman- anyway, I think what is meant is that the part of the White that flows below Bull Shoals is a better trout fishery than the part of the White that flows directly below Beaver. It is certainly a bigger and better known fishery. To me, personally, the Beaver Lake tail water is barely distinguishable from Table Rock Lake or recognizable as a river. Certainly people see such things differently from one another. I'm not aware of record fish taken between Beaver Dam and Houseman but there may have been several?
  15. http://forums.ozarkanglers.com/topic/70482-gravel-bar-bathroom/ Seriously the local guys aren't going to be authorized to spend money, every dime comes out of Jeff City and the head gal. They need Portapots at every access for both all sexes and a pit for the dang pets, feces and urine are nasty no matter what sex leaves them there. Call Sara Parker Pauley Sara not only runs MDC, she is female so can judge whether they have any "special need".

  18. Making the line hold dirt makes the line wear faster so we get to buy a new line sooner, those marketing types are on it.
  19. When they placed porta potys in the trout park they were unisex, fact is I've never seen one without the urinal. Make phone calls to Jefferson City, that's where the funds and authorization have to come from. Or email them https://mdc.mo.gov/contact-engage/contact-us
  20. Hydrophobic fumed silica- https://www.epoxyusa.com/fumed_silica_p/ft02.htm
  21. Don't pay to play there do we?
  22. Wrench read up on those silicones, I believe they are all pretty much the same stuff with different labels. I did read about them some time ago but can't remember why and I just recently saw the Danco grease touted as a fly fishing necessity, either as line treatment or fly floatant, maybe both. I failed to take notes again.
  23. The creek accesses have been a part of the Forestry Division, they took down the vault toilets on the Elk several years ago in response to complaints about not being clean. The ones at the visitor center would be Fisheries. I bet they could taken down too'. But I believe that in addition to the covid thing that MDC is in the midst of reorganizing and shifting responsibilities. Elimination/combining of some Divisions I think. Parks are DNR.
