  1. Fisheries Administrative Manager He had the query long enough to ask a lot of people and he cc the reply to "Andrew Branson"
  2. If I buy a silicone legged 'hopper at the Park Store as a "fly" shouldn't they pay the fine and lose their permits? This means I can't use my Calcasieu Pig Boats at RRSP. It sucks, that's what.
  3. Somebody make me a list of all the flies that have elastic material used in their construction?
  4. In answer to my query on this subject, all rubber legs, antennae, etc are illegal as the OP relayed. I am flabbergasted, surprised, astonished and taken aback that so many of us can't read. From Michael J. Mitchell., Fisheries Administrative Manager, Missouri Department of Conservation
  5. There was a post on another forum about Dai-Riki last November that said basically that Dan Bailey had been the importer and things there went out of round at DB and now there is no more Dai-Riki. True or not , I don't know or care i have enough Mustad hooks left to keep me going for awhile and I like Eagle Claw for a lot of my wet flies. I do notice not many supplies have more than 2-3 styles and limited sizes in those https://www.tightlinesflyfishing.com/store/p285/Dai-Riki_710_Nymph%2C_1x_strong%2C_3x_long.html has one box of #6 left and 3 boxes of #2, most sites are discounting all DaiRiki stuff like it's close out so the rumor could be fact. Dan Bailey shows them apparently sold by the 1000- buy as many as you can afford if the is your favorite hook- https://shop.dan-bailey.com/Via/index.jsp
  6. So the leader's main purpose is as sacrificial break away?
  7. Never used modern braid and I have question for you all, with the tiny diameters now available do you need leader? and why? Then the other question is related to the OP ?, how far; let's say that you can comfortably cast 70 yards, 210' , 64m - I used to have a spinning rig that would let me get pretty close to that (and I haven't used in years) So, the cast goes out and out and settles into the water with barely a splash; how far away from you can you detect a strike and get a hook set? about what is the farthest distance you have caught a fish?

    kinda cranky

Cheapest fast drying hair spray/lacquer, spray generously over entire area of body or clothing as soon as you notice chiggers or seed ticks- this will clog their lungs. legs and jaws. Your wife, daughter or lady friend can recommend a fast setting high hold spray. This has the added benefit of cooling the itch immediately. I haven't had chiggers bother me in about twenty years. Spray can in every tool box and every vehicle.
  9. That picture is worth several rods and a couple reels. Congratulate the young lady.
  10. Or the flow in the James was not enough to keep it above the lake level, kinda the same thing.

A tourist angler just got shot in Belize, good reason to stay in 6 counties. https://www.newsweek.com/virginia-cardiologist-tour-guide-killed-fly-fishing-belize-1445688
  13. So, a pickerel story, to start with they must get a bit bigger in the south I don't recall ever catching one over 24" -3#? and skinny, but, I was working a city park lake about 40A and less than 15' I think, about 20' wide weed and lillypad edge band in ~3' water with a Mickey Finn and caught a small 9-9.5" pickerel out about 20' from me and as I pulled it in it was smashed and swallowed by a 17'5" pickerel. Pulled both in and while I was measuring the big one it regurgitated the small one; I got my fly back and both fish swam away. A couple lmb went home with me for supper. Ferocious fish.
  14. caught plenty of them in New England mill ponds back when. That's a thick one. What did it weigh?

Was on my own in Spain, Italy and Greece while in the USN. Italy and Greece you could always find an English speaker, even if it was German tourist= Spain was different, police with submachine guns, most tourists never leaving the hotel beach or lobby; I found myself in places where there was only guesses and pantomime for communication and saying it louder just doesn't help.

Everybody is from somewhere? Isn't that where Brown Trout came from? I've seen pictures/video of fly fishing Ukraine that made me want to go there. Language would be a problem for me though.

not worth fishing for are they?

  19. My point was that the state become the 'landowner, complete with fences to keep the river people in the river land and off the farmer's land. I think many landowners would like the tax relief, but maybe not if the state didn't build the fences tweeker proof.
  20. That's one of my spots. Water was a bit high for good fishing imo. Glad you caught some. edit later> After thinking about this I may have spoken with you for a minute at the low water bridge. I talked to a couple guys there one evening last week.
  21. Think the state could exercise eminent domain to make all streams state property and give up all that tax money? How many millions of acres of stream channel do you reckon there is high water to high water on all the water ways in the state? how much per acre are taxes on average farmland? could the school system afford that loss of revenue, or would the next step be to raise taxes? I'd vote for that in a heart beat. Vote for a sales tax to off set it too.
  22. Gotta link to that? I can never find anything on Grand when I want to.
  23. It got bigger And I mean literally just over the hill, the watershed divides around Avoca/Garfield. Radar showed some of that drainage getting more than we did so COE is likely to dump more-
  24. Should be an area just for wading apart from the fishing areas. Lure only area, fly only area, bait only area and wading only area; no need to stock the wade area they will spook the fish anyhow.
  25. It was a heck of a rain and after the first 1/4" was all runoff. I'm kinda trapped here in the holler, but more fortunate than those in the flood plain. It's still at 45700. I always need to think in gallons- so, 341,859 gallons per second.
