  1. Here's a review of ultralight rods from a few months ago: https://usangler.com/best-ultralight-spinning-rod-reviews/
  2. Sounds like you want an ultralight or microlight spinning rod. Check out the offerings from your favorite rod makers. Its been quite a few years since I used them, but I had a Bass Pro microlight rod that would cast the light stuff pretty well. It was kind of "noodley"....but certainly did a good job protecting light line when a bigger fish bit. Some lighter rods are also shorter, but I had one that was still pretty long, which was what I wanted at the time.
  3. I don't know how well it casts...but its been cast before. So...here's a rod: (sorry.. I couldn't resist)
  4. Beauties! Congrats on the tiger!
  5. That's looking really good!
  6. I've become a spoiled brat, haven't I? Always wanted to catch one, wasn't sure it was ever going to happen, since I didn't fish where they live. You put me on my first one, @Ham. You get a HUGE "Thank you!" from me. I had a day when I caught 8, but lost 19 bowfin. And then coming off a 15-bowfin (landed) day that took me from 29 to 44, I thought 6 more would be very possible. I had enough strikes, but lost too many fish to seal the deal. It is also very possible I burned all the spots out. 45 in 8 trips...its been a very good 6 weeks. My next goal will be to get to 100 bowfin on fly, lifetime.
  7. Tried to get to 50 Bowfin this year. Did not make it. Ended at 46. Caught a couple Common Carp, too. Plus Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, Green Sunfish, a Black Crappie, and ....something that may be either a wild Goldfish, or possibly a Prussian Carp. Oh...and 2 clams. One was just the shells, and one was still alive. I swear it was taking line BEFORE I set the hook. Imagine my surprise. And does it count as a fish? It has fish right in the name, after all..."shellfish".
  8. The flats booties can be ok. But when walking on submerged rocks/rip rap....you feel every rock edge. It hurts. So, I tried something similar that has a more solid ,stiffer sole. That helped a lot. A bit clunky, but probably because I ordered a size too big. However, I can (and do) also wear them with my stockingfoot waders, where they fit quite well. https://www.froggtoggs.com/aransas-froggtoggs-neoprene-surf-and-sand
  9. That's as good as an invitation, right there! 6:15pm about right? 😁
  10. Happy Birthday, @Quillback !
  11. Sign me up to catch one!
  12. That Cutty's got a BIG rudder! Bet that gave a good accounting of itself!
  13. Switch to total length instead of weight. There was a bass tournament on Lake Powell (?) where guys were weighing-in bass caught the previous day from another lake (Quail Ridge Lake?), and got caught. That's mental.
  14. We have a small patch of woods behind our house in the city. Figured I'd have seen some raccoons by now....since we've seen oppossum, turkeys, rabbits, owls, squirrels, all kinds of birds, red-shouldered hawks, etc. But I've only seen road kill here. So, this BIG one was 1/3 of the way along the base of a vertical bank, coming towards me, when I noticed it. I was so excited, I started softly talking to it. It stopped and looked at me. Beautiful! But by the time I got my phone out of my pocket to get a picture, it had turned around and walked back the way it had come, and I missed my chance. It just ambled away up the bank into the trees, didn't run. But I didn't see it again.
  15. This one is yesterday's trip. Caught 15 bowfin on flies! https://fishndave.blogspot.com/2022/10/october-2-2022.html
  16. This one is mostly bowfin....LOTS of lost ones today! https://fishndave.blogspot.com/2022/10/september-30-2022.html
  17. This one shows how tough the Creek has gotten... https://fishndave.blogspot.com/2022/10/september-29-2022.html
  18. This one I caught 10 species in an unlikely place. https://fishndave.blogspot.com/2022/10/september-28-2022.html
  19. I've gotten behind on posting pics from some recent fishing outings. I've posted them on my blog, so I will include links to that here. I'm getting too lazy to load all the pics to a hosting site, then post the links here...so... Check 'em out, or don't. This one is Koi: https://fishndave.blogspot.com/2022/10/september-27-2022-koi.html
  20. With @Ham 's help, I caught my first bowfin earlier this summer. And in the past month+, I've caught more. I'm now up to 44 bowfin, compared to only 40 grass carp for the year. Also with @Ham, I had spotted gar on the line, but unable to land them. @Ham has never witnessed anyone struggle so hard to catch a fish, as I did to finally catch a chain pickerel, but he was patient, and we got it done! Have not seen any Fliers yet. Some other unlisted goals,...I exceeded my 200th (lifetime) Grass Carp caught on the fly rod in 2022, and exceeded 200 Koi (lifetime) on the fly rod, and only need 2 more Goldfish to hit 200 (lifetime) on the fly rod.
  21. Well, @BilletHead ... you know what they say... "T'is better to have loved a short person, than to never have loved a tall!"
  22. Right. Would be best fished from a boat. I was happy to not get skunked in the hour or so I had to fish it.
  23. Visited a new-to-me lake about 3.5 hours from home. Tried for muskies and bass. Was not successful. Downsized, and caught around a dozen crappies (black and white), a couple small bass, and...somehow...a crayfish.
