Thoughts on Metal Baits for Freshwater Fishing?
professioneat replied to professioneat's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
thanks in advance for any help -
Hey everyone, I recently came across an article discussing various types of metal baits like spoons, spinners, and blade baits. It emphasized their effectiveness for freshwater species such as bass, trout, and pike, especially in colder water. I’m curious what’s been your experience using metal baits? Do you find them more productive than soft plastics or crankbaits? Also, any specific brands or colors you swear by? I’m looking to upgrade my tackle box and would love to hear some real world input before making any purchases. Appreciate any tips or personal favorites you can share!

New Boat Cleaning Products
professioneat replied to Flysmallie's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
what is the fastest and best way to clean gel coat? we run in the river so it stains pretty quickly.... and what is the best vinyl cleaner to get it back to that bright white? -
Hello everyone. I'm looking for a reliable automatic fish feeder that consistently dispenses the right portion sizes. I’ve heard that some models can be inaccurate, leading to overfeeding or underfeeding, which can affect water quality. Ideally, I’d like something easy to set up, moisture-resistant to prevent clogging, and allows scheduling multiple feedings per day. Smart features like app control would be a bonus but not a must. What are your recommendations based on personal experience? Any brands or models you’ve had success with? Also, are there any common issues I should watch out for?

Anybody have a portable solar generator?
professioneat replied to snagged in outlet 3's topic in General Chat
I want to buy a portable solar generator and I don't know what specifications I should keep in mind before buying. could u please list the specifications of such products I've searched some company's websites but I couldn't understand their specifications because it is mentioned as abbreviations. the last question I want to ask is: What is the minimum electricity power (in Ampere) that a portable solar power generator can store? -

What do you expect/want from your boat mechanic?

thanks in advance for any help -
Hello everyone. I’m starting out working for myself as a mobile boat mechanic/systems tech. I figured I’d ask this sub what you would expect of me. I have 12 years of professional experience on boats, starting as a laborer in a boat yard, and then working on boats as a crew mostly in the engine department. I have USCG engineering licenses for the chief engineer, a captain's license, and experience with engines from 2hp outboards to 5000hp diesel. I’m one of those people who can fix almost anything, but mechanical and electrical is my niche. I’ve worked on everything from fancy sailing yachts owned by hedge fund folks to giant tugboats, to wooden tall ships. I plan to say that I’ll come to meet you and see your boat for up to an hour for free. I won’t charge travel time within a range that covers the two nearest marinas to me. After that, the shop rate is $70/hour and I would bill for all the time I dedicate to your boat unless I screw something up and it needs to be redone. Does that seem to be the market rate? What else would you expect, or want to see?

I need a new pair of boots. Again. I wear my boots all day, every day in all weather and terrain. I love my Laredos but they just don't hold up. My pair is a year and a half old and the soles are cracking and the leather is about to tear in a couple of places. I have a pair of Dan Post men's cowboy/work boots which are still in great condition even after 5 years but they are too stiff and clunky for my liking to ride in. 😕 What boots do you guys recommend?

I am going to have to buy a new pair of boots. My old Frye boots have been rebuilt 3 times, and the cobbler says he won't do it again. What is a good brand to look at? My feet tend to be on the wide side.

A follow-up baitcasting reel report
professioneat replied to Al Agnew's topic in General Angling Discussion
Which is it? Assume there is no impact on your own pocketbook. What is the absolute, no argument, best baitcasting reel today? Will never be used around saltwater. Only fishing within Missouri reservoirs, lakes, and The Ozarks. The only target is throwing for trophy largemouth. -
Got free kayak from a friend but it has a big a** hole cut out of it, i have the cut out piece to patch it. Anyone know of a place or person that can fix it. It doesn't have to be pretty just has to float. Located in San Diego any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would guess that this question has come up before, but i'm still new and having trouble searching the forums. I recently purchased a fishing kayak and need a quality PFD. I have around $150 in gift cards to bass pro and would love if a recommendation could be to something I could purchase from there. I've done a little research and have seen prices all over the spectrum. The 'Mustang' brand, inflatable PFD looked really nice. however that $250 price tag didn't!! I like the thought of an inflatable vest due to its small size but that would be completely new to me as I have only worn the standard foam ones. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks, and I apologize once again if this is a repeat question.

I am looking for different opinions on what people view are the best baitcaster reels? I would also like opionions on various baitcasters for different roles, ie, the best baitcaster for light fishing, such as bream fishing, and the best baitcaster for heavier action. Many thanks, Colin Hay

Did anyone get any specific brands/models to recommend? Looking for 10-footers (I think) that can be carried down a couple of miles of rutted portage trail, and be stable enough in mildly choppy (fresh)water. No whitewater or nasty chop needs. Obviously, inexpensive but decent-quality ones would be at the top of the list. As would ones with some storage space. We'd use these to get ourselves to an island for two uninterrupted, and un-resupplied best offshore fishing kayak, weeks. These would be for myself and each of my teen sons (14 and 16 when we make our trip this coming summer). We've all had kayaking experiences, including on Lake Huron, and they're strong kids. We're also kinda lanky 6-footers if that matters. Thanks!
