  6. Roaring river came up nicely, it is going to fish great this next weekend. First pic today Second pic a few weeks ago It was cold today, feb 1st
  7. I don't have that rod, but I do own several Conolon fly rods, I fish a 6' one a lot, one of my favorite fiberglass rods.
  8. I see the rainbows spawn in crane mostly jan and feb but I've seen a few redds in Dec. I've seen a few redds in early march, this year is really different, no water and few riffles, I've not seen any spawning activity yet, but its time.
  9. What part of the creek were you on, I walked a lot of the creek last week, never saw a redd. I was on the upper end.
  10. A customer took this pic a couple of weeks ago
  11. I talked to the hatchery just last monday, and the spring is only running about 3,000,000 gallons a day, not much when you consider the average flow is 22,000,000 a day, come on rain, we need you now. Water is still low and clear, very good dry fly fishing the past few weekends, especially when temps get up into the high 30's and low 40's. Blue wing olives, caddis and there is midge activity everyday, I'm using BWO's and caddis as small as 20's, but you can usually get by with a #18, I'm using a lot of parachute BWO's and Adams, I can just see them better. Renegades, griffiths gnats, small humpys, and I'm still catching a few on Crackle backs, but I'm fishing them just under the surface most of the time, stripping them back. Leeches, woolybuggers, and marabou streamers are still catching a good number of trout, I am still using the chamois worm and doing very well, as well as an peach, and or an orange san juan worm. Buggers in olive and black are working for me most days, I've had some luck on red, and I'm still catching a few on brown, same with the leeches. Small micro eggs are as effective as always, sight fished or fished under an indicator, they will work most of the time. Black, brow, and small olive zebra midges have been working very well, fished two at a time on a 7X leader and tippet, these little flies will work most days fished in the riffles the are very effective. 7X tippet is what I'm using most days especially on dries, but I'm still using 6X fluorocarbon on most of my nymphs, and streamers, a 9' leader will work best right now, if you can throw a 12' leader then by all means do it, it will only help with getting a good drift. Lots of eagles in the park and you can get pretty close to them sometimes while fishing, so keep the camera ready. Water is clear, and most of the trout you'll catch right now will be 12"-16" and there are enough 4 and 5 lb trout around to keep in interesting, so if you have a nice little light rod, 1-3 weight, now is a great time to get it out and have some fun, most of your casts right now will be 30 feet and shorter, have a great week on the water.
  12. I use a 6' glass rod most of the time, it cost me 100$, I have several reels, I use a peerless.#1 or an old ATH I've had for years, as long as the drag is smooth and starts moving with out sticking It is a good reel for me.
  13. I fished up by the dam this morning, great fishing lots of nice sized trout, egg patterns and Oregon cheese San Juan worms worked well for me.
  14. Lt. Roe, apricot supreme, Oregon cheese, and egg, are my favorites, I like to put a red dot in some of them, I also tie a few with 5 or 6 colors (scrambled egg) with a red speck.
  15. Great weekend of trout fishing, even with the low water and slow flow, the trout were very eager to take our flies, I caught trout everyday on dry flies, mostly on a parachute adams, but caught a few on a caddis, both were #18's, the other dry flies that are working would be, blue wing olives, griffiths gnats, small cream midges and lt. cahills. I fished a chamois worm a lot this weekend, caught fish on it everyday, I think the total for this weekend was 5 fish over 3lbs, 3 of them were over 4lbs, 1 was a solid 5lbs. all on the chamois worm. I did pretty good on a small micro egg, #20 fished with a zebra midge in black, the zebra midge was a #18 or a #20 both sizes are good right now. I managed a few nice fish on a red leech on friday, and a few with it on saturday, but on monday the trout were more interested in my black, olive and brown leeches, caught a nice one monday, about 4lbs on a blue/ purple/grizzly #10 woolybugger, big fish like blue sometimes. I talked to one customer, he told me he and his son had been doing very well in zone 2 on a green crackleback the son also mentioned he landed one about 4 lbs on a pheasant tail nymph, and he had caught a few on a white thread jig. I talked to a customer on sunday, he said he was still catching trout on beetles, and had a guy in on saturday looking to buy some bees, said he and his buddy had been catching trout on them all day. Very clear water, so I'm using only 6X fluorocarbon on my nymphs and buggers, and standard 7X tippet when fishing dry flies, good luck on the river this week, have a Merry Christmas. Here is my last trout of the day on monday, nice fat 4 pounder

  17. No, nothing in the park is open, there are some hotels just outside the park.
  18. And not a snake in sight.
  19. Duane Allen and I had a good trip to Capps today, I think total togeather we landed 18 or 19 rainbows and browns, we hooked a lot that we didn't land, black leeches and olive leeches did well for me today, I think Duane did the best on a black leech, caught a few on a brown woolybugger, water has cleared up and the fish were a bit spooky as the day progressed, we started about 7:30, a blamy 17 degrees early and it warmed up nice by 10:00, great day on the creek, better than sitting around the house.
  20. Well I do tend to fish more parachute BWO's as I get older
  21. Still catching a lot of nice trout on drys, blue wing olives and caddis, are good this time of year, the water is still low and clear, but there are still plenty of nice trout in the water, there was a 25" and a 24" caught yesterday and several over 18"s caught yesterday, still doing well on buggers, small chaomis flies, pheasant tails and copper johns, several of the big fish yesterday were caught on zebra midges, black, and the tan have been good the past few weeks.
  22. I was down by water moccasin bend, near rattle snake riffle(down below dairy farm) Where the big snakes hang out
  23. Went to crane to take pics for an article I'm writing, and the low water is bad but the snakes are doing well, they were everywhere, guess the snakes are enjoying the warm weather. Saw lots of trout.
  24. Gordon Roller does up pink rods for the shop quite often, call him at (417) 342-8781 He can take any rod and make it pink.
  25. Yes it is terrible, nobody should fish this winter on Crane.
