  1. Roaring River is a magical place.
  2. I use a variety of strike indicators, because I can't get those big red and white bobbers to cast very well. They help me control the drift and allow me to get my fly set to the best depth. If the cast is made well upstream of the fish and the indicator is not as big as an apple and the drift is good, it can be your best friend. I use my indicators as tools and they usually get the job done.
  3. Great report Chief. Way to take the old man to school Dylan. I have two of those big rebel craws that, I swear, are at least 20 years old. I throw them every once in a while and occasionally catch a fish or two, but I've never had a day like you two had. I was really wanting to float tomorrow, but with all of the rain I think I'll have to wait a little longer.
  4. Great report Redbird. I taught all 3 of my sons to fly fish at Roaring River and we still take a trip together now and then. Somethings you never forget.
  5. Very cool. I really enjoyed it.
  6. I think you were misinformed. From the MDC website: Trout Fishing Missouri has several types of trout fishing areas, each with its own special rules. In addition to a fishing permit, you will need a trout permit to possess trout on all waters outside of the trout parks and a daily tag while fishing in the trout parks. Unless otherwise indicated, the season is open all year. â–
  7. At least there weren't any major injuries. He's lucky he cleared the edge of the bridge and all of the trees.
  8. Great report. Thanks.
  9. Glad to have you back Andy.
  10. Dries upstream in fast water makes for an exciting bite, not to mention sight fishing for risers. Nymphing with an indicator and streamers for the aggressive impulse bite.
  11. That is a great show. I've watched several of the online episodes. It has sort of a Red Green Show feel to it. Lilley's show would have to have a more Ozark feel to it. It could be done though, with Jeremy and all of the other great local fly tiers in the area it would really be worth watching.
  12. I just wanted to say that I have read all off your posts MIC and enjoyed each of them. I am also sorry I never made you aware of that. Keep posting. I may or may not ever be able to fish Blue Springs, but whether I post a comment or not I still enjoy reading them. You are right Eric. I will say that I have changed my posting methods over the last few years about some of the more fragile streams that I and a few of other forum members fish for both wild trout and smallmouth. The reasons are the same that you give. On the other hand I have no problems posting reports about Crane. It is a fairly long creek and as long as I don't state specific locations I don't see any problem with it. Crane can be fickle, so I don't worry so much about it as some of the other streams that I've fished with Chief and Wheatie. Those are the creeks that I will protect. Besides, if you don't know what you are doing and not fishing with live bait your first trip to Crane it will most likely be your last. Last summer I posted a report about a fishing trip with my sons that I called "Paradise Creek" and it truly is and I would like to keep it that way. I also was very descriptive about the creek itself and all of the lures we used to catch fish. I hope readers enjoyed it. To all posters on this forum: Post what you want, how you want. Use your own discretion as to how much info you incorporate into the post. Pictures, flies, and how you caught them is enough for me. If I want more info I'll PM you. Likewise for any of my posts. 13. Thanks guys.
  14. I doubt you would notice much difference, but I could be wrong.I'd spool up the spare with 4 or 6 lb. line just in case you need it. Some of those Taney fish get pretty big you know.

    Report 2/20

The crappie is interesting. I've never even thought about that species being in Capps, let alone at the dam. I wonder if they have been stocked in the mill pond??? Maybe it swam all the way up from Shoal Creek. That makes two oddities for Capps in recent months,1 golden rainbow and now crappie.
  16. I would look for large flats on the north banks. They will warm faster and give the fish a more comfortable area to search for food. By large, I mean relative to what the norm is. A big flat off of a deep channel can warm enough to bring some of the bigger largemouth out for a warm-up and a meal. Usually about 11:30 to 1:00 is a good time to find the more active fish. It may be a short timespan, but you have the potential to catch a couple of nice fish. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits can be very productive if everything falls into place. The deeper slow holes are usually better fished slow with tubes and other soft plastics. I like about 4 warm days for the best results. Good luck. I wish I was off during this week to do some floating.
  17. Good to know. Thanks Chief. I think I'll put something in an e-mail.
  18. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_D._Roosevelt I don't know about that Muddy. A lot of his stuff is still active today. Good stuff too. Aside from being elected to 3 terms as President I don't think you have a leg to stand on with that statement. FDR was and still is one of the greatest Presidents this country has ever had. JMO, but I think a lot of people would agree.
  19. I use Microsoft Paint. Super easy and fast.
  20. I went in to work this morning because I knew I could make it. They shut the plant down and sent us all home at 10:30 AM. It took me 1 hour to drive about 12 miles and then the truck got stuck in the snow drifts. Luckily a forum member/fishing buddy helped tow me off the road and then gave me a ride home.I finally got home at about 12:30 PM. My truck is stting in a neighbors driveway about 1 1/2 miles from my house. I haven't measured how much snow we have, but I estimate it to be about 12" to 14". It's hard to tell with the drifts.
  21. I hope you had a great day MC.
  22. I'm sure no one on this forum knows, but how many sightings had been reported in the areas of the two mountain lion kills? How many of these sightings actually had MDC boots on the ground to investigate them? Were there ever any reports of livestock kills? I've read this entire thread and I keep coming back to this. If these people had made reports of sightings, but only got the standard answer, "It's probably just a big dog", did they feel the need to prove it by killing the animal? Was the big coyote hunt just a front to kill this cat? I have a lot of questions, but I'll stop there for now.
  23. Here is a blackbery you'll like. http://www.flixxy.com/my-blackberry-is-not-working.htm Sorry Phil, I couldn't resist.
  24. I just checked the link JD provided. It appears that not only do I have the ability to purchase my fishing license and trout tag I get to pay MDC a fee of $2.00 for the convenience of doing so. Then I have to get it laminated to protect it. If they are selling nearly 1,000,000 licenses per year( online) that amounts to quite a chunk of change. Not to mention the $50,000 that they will save by going to the E- permits. Don't get me wrong, I have never complained about the increases they have done over the years, but I'm not liking this very much. I think I'll just run down to my local Wal-mart and let the guy who knows nothing about hunting or fishing try to figure out how to print my license on the vinyl at least one more time. https://www3.wildlifelicense.com/mo/start.php

    Eagles

Cool pics Ollie. I remember years ago when they used to just dump the dead chickens out behind the chicken houses. There would be a bunch of eagles, as many as a hundred in one location. People used to just drive around and watch them. Capps was tough today. I caught 9 fish then left and went to Hickory and caught 40 in about 4 hours. I should have just started and stayed at Hickory.
