  1. With only 2 miles to float to the truck, I would go for it. That being said, how obvious is the take out at Pulltite, I've never been there? The ONLY downside to paddling out is the possibility of missing the take out. That could be a very dangerous situation. I have an app on my smart phone that helps with that situation. It's called "Find My Car" It works off of GPS so it should work fine if no signal is available. You just need to log it into the app when the vehicle is parked. Obviously you would need to conserve the battery life of the phone. I usually put my phone in airplane mode or shut it off when I have no reception. I don't think I would chance staying put on a river that no one is likely to float down.
  2. The RV has been there for a while. I have only seen a vehicle there once though. I would rather just cross the creek below the new bridge, but it has gotten a little too deep over the last few years.
  3. The ladders would be great. I hope they figure it out.
  4. Sometime last year they put a mobile home way back on the hill south of the lot. They even named the lane Haskins drive. It used to be a popular hunting area. The last time I looked the cattle guard walk through fence was changed. I thought it was just because a flood took it out. He has a legitimate gripe if people are cutting his fence, but I don't think everyone should be hassled for it. And I would guess that the fence is getting cut at night.
  5. I'll have to look that lot over next chance I get. I can't imagine him stopping people from parking there unless he fences it off and posts it.
  6. Nice!!!

    Hair Jigs

That's cool Mitch. Pork isn't always the best and it isn't the easiest. We never used anything but deer hair jigs, not much added action there, so what the pork added was a plus.
  8. I've never heard that, but I don't hear a lot of things.
  9. There is one there for hunting access. You are right though, it needs updated. This was from 2007

    Hair Jigs

Yes the bulky/leaky containers are a pain, but the idea that they get hung up on the hook more than a fluttering bug with all of it's claws and tentacles is just silly. Will they turn sideways, even backwards? Yes they will. Do they cause you to miss hook ups? I don't think any more than short strikes on long plastics. Just open that hook gap up to the edge of the weed guard and you can solve that problem. You may lose some jigs, but the hook up problem is solved. The same goes for plastic trailers. Do they slow the fall as much as plastics? No. And as Chief said, they are pretty much indestructible. We fished for the fish that were on or near the bottom. Usually barely hopping them, thus the light jig and slow fall. Heck we had great luck with pork on black spinnerbaits at night, slow rolling or bouncing them off the bottom. if your not getting bit just change the frog. I remember one night at Cape Fair when we weren't getting bit. I decided to change spinnerbaits to a black one that had some yellow mixed in and added a white/ green spot frog. I immediately starting catching fish. My father-in-law, at the time, also changed and we had a great night. BTW, he is a great fisherman who taught me a lot, if not all I know, about lake fishing. So, if any one really cares, pork has a different profile, fall, scent, and action. Plastics are cheaper and easier to carry, but pork may just be the subtle difference that makes a good day a great day.

    Hair Jigs

I guess you're right. We used to always use pork frogs in the winter. They did work well. They would also work nicely on those jigs that don't leave a lot of room to thread on a plastic bait and last a heckuva lot longer than nose hooking plastics.
  12. I went to Capps New Years Eve morning for a few hours. It was tough. I caught nothing until the usual spot below where the farmers road runs through the creek. 3 there and jumped off 2, above that I managed 2 and jumped off 3 more. I decided to go further upstream to see what was happening. I caught 4 more, 1 was a small brown and 1 was an 8 inch Parr marked rainbow, and jumped off 1 more. It was tough all the way back with only 1 more fish and 1 quick release above the snarl of trees above the lower bridge. I saw lots of foot traffic along the creek, so I'd say they've been working it over pretty good. So, Haskins owns the gravel parking lot? I never would have guessed that. Nice fish BTW...
  13. Happy New Year KC.

    Hair Jigs

Does anyone use pork chunks anymore? We used to use only Uncle Josh's 101 pork frogs with 1/8 oz. hair jigs in the winter. Black with a bit of chart., black with a bit of blue, straight olive, and olive with a bit of chart., and of course brown. We would tip them with black, black/blue, brown, or white with green spots pork frogs. Pork frogs are a pain to carry, but they have great action in cold water. Always caught fish.
  15. I usually use weedless jigs for tube baits. You know, the Arkie jigs from Wally World with the wire weed guards. Bend the weed guard forward to the hook eye and run it up through the tube. When it gets to about 1/2 inch from the head of the tube, poke it through and pull on it until the eye is bulging, push on the tube until the eye pops out, fold the guard back and line it up with the hook then tie it on. It takes a few times to get used to doing it, but it works. One of the things I like about the Arkie jigs is that they are light wire hooks so if you do hang up you can usually bend the hook out enough to get it to come free, that is if you use stout enough line. I then bend the hook back into place and go back to fishing.
  16. These people have been trying to do something for the past several years. A few years back they wanted to build a reservoir that would encroach on Crane Creek. Apparently that has been shelved for now. If you want a little reading: Joplin was also talking about building their own lake for water usage, but that hasn't happened either. With Shoal Creek, which is already a main water source, and Spring River as a possible water source I don't see how it would be feasible to bury a water line from Stockton. But I'm not an engineer either.
  17. That sucks!!! Sorry to hear it.
  18. Great photo!!!

    Sunglasses

I guess I'm not understanding. You want full magnifying polarized sunglasses, right? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that. I've had good results with my prescription polarized bifocals. They take some getting used to, but once you get used to them they work great.
  21. Thank you J-Doc. I am one of those that you mentioned. I have bought my share of Pinnacle's from Academy at discounted prices and am proud to be a tight a$$, or poor a$$. LOL
  22. I've had problems with getting quotes to show. I thought it was my browser.

    Olliefest Vii

I understand Wayne. It would be way to wooly for him down where we were. Try to make it next year. Any type of fishing goes, fly nor spin. Ollie, if you had stuck around for 5 more minutes I would have caught and passed you. LOL Next year buddy!!
  24. It was some type of minnow or another. I'm not up on my minnow identifications, but there are some guys on here that are. A 5 inch trout is unmistakable, IMO. You will see at 5 to 10 dark dots on the side of the fish, Parr marks. Example from Crane Creek:
