  1. I am round, waiting on bowl schedule.......
  2. Having killed, and being in on several elk kills out west, I have learned "gutting" and field dressing is a waste. Instead of splitting belly, get upright, skin hide down back, and bone out use hide as work table, i can bone one out faster than field dress, haul out only meat. Almost as good as a good guide.
  3. Got drug into a coon hunt likely 40 years since my last, with no explanation by my Brother-in-law, but it is family so.....as I told Billethead en-route, you can choose friends but not family. Showed up a few hours early, as requested, had a tour of the area in the gator to familiarize me with the lay of the land. (I had been there in the mid 70's but with another gal so after 38 years of marriage, dumb is good) Learned that this hunt was for some folks who had paid generously at auction to benefit the school and the neighborhood was pleased. We went to the main place, not super fancy, but a much better location and decorating than our place. Had grilled duck breast rolled in jalapenos and bacon for horse de vours, (sorry never learned French, ....my Professor at Mizzou would testify English either for that matter) with cocktails followed by salad, baked potatoes, really nice steaks and wine. Then away we go, due to my bad ankle I was in-charge of driving the "refreshment cart" and support vehicle (gator), with coolers loaded with various drinks and snacks. One Walker (my favorite) and a Red bone were released it was a clear, cool fall evening, stars were very clear and the sound carried well. Very soon they cut a track, and the music began, man I love hearing any hound but the deep drum of a Walker is so special. They drop off the hilltop, I circle, get in the bottom below, the deep voice of the Walker, broooam, broooam,broooam...., then they tree, the Red bone is very, very excited, think she got an eye full. I watch from the bottom as the wheat (now led) lights descend, a near perfect circle below the cedar tree is formed with lights shining looking in excitement. Then a lot of squalling and hissing, starts moving from tree to tree in a tight cedar grove. The lights scattered quicker than if you had blew them plumb up..., going far and fast. I was totally dumbfounded (easy task). I turned on the Gator lights, to make a regroup point, as apparently there was an issue. After a bit the hunters gather at the "refreshment cart'. The story goes, it was a bobcat, and was not happy being confused with a coon and refused to be treed. The hunters were not scared just trying to give the cat some space...???, after being refreshed they went on. The youngest, Sam was about 9, had drank at least 3 Mountian Dews, he kept pace with the dogs for quite some time. Pretty sure his Mother made note of my name when we returned, hopefully not to report to child services, he was not skinned up too bad. Coon hunting has come a long way from my younger days. Brian the dog owner had a GPS deal around his neck. He could point out where we were and each of the dogs... maps and everything. The next track was fast and furious, as the dogs got further than anticipated, Brian said they are in a drive way..... he said 900 yds out...... showed me the map... only grumpy neighbor in 3 sections.... "I think they treed in the yard"....Please no. Fortunately the coon went on (likely jumped onto the house and ran to catch a tree on the east side) The lights in the house came on, ..Brians dogs are trained not to come to anyone but him. We ended up with two coons and a scared Opossum. I am not a coon hunter by any means but sure enjoy hearing the hounds run and watching the antics of the hunters will never grow old. Hope they invite me back next year. g
  4. I owned a boat like that once, it was OK as long as it stayed on the trailer did not leak at all.
  5. You got it, be a gravel road left right before Buffalo City, They have a sign, if you miss the turn you will end up in downtown..... watch the traffic. Phone service is limited but they have internet.
  6. I use 30 on rivers and for crappie 35 on lake straight bass fishing
  7. I bought 3 of the 6930 for river fishing. They are not quite as smooth as the higher dollar models,, but I have several that have functioned for years, being beat in the bottom of a canoe, dunked dropped and they still preform well. I own several other different brands Lews, BPS, Shammano dawia and others, for me the pfluegers .stand up best for the buck. As far balance and distance etc. that is on the buyer. I try to go to a store, first I find a reel that fits the rod or a similar rod well, balance, distance from blank etc.(I have large hands so I get that issue) once I find the right model I may go through 5 or 6 boxes to find the one that operates smoothest. I am a finesse guy and use the spinning gear most of the time. g
  8. Yep, get a 50 lb bag of fish feed, better for the trout. Seen it done on Taney..... then to be real sporting use a fish food foam fly on the fly rod.
  9. Lost my Mother-in-Law to ALS, tough.... They are in our prayers my friend.
  10. I plan on it Cody
  11. I use 6 or 8 nano or power pro braid with a 2 to 6 fluro or mono depending conditions
  12. The darn bears must have ate them.
  13. note the cotton mouths, lots of cotton mouths very aggressive shoot the MDC guy won't even go until it freezes..... scary scary place.
  14. get back to work so you can get done and come to jigfest
  15. I am in treatment, down to 4 boats, 4 canoes and two kayaks, two float tubes, but still keep a eye on craigs list and have Fred saved in my favorites.
  16. Do either of those places have a water view?
  17. Well Quill is the MAN! But I think Billethead is getting 8-10 gallons of cooking oil at SAM's so someone should kick in with him... Maybe Got Muddy with the amount of meat he will need to purchase. I know you are Great Guys we will work it out. Looking forward to it also.
  18. Depends on the boat and operator ability. I would not run one of the lowe or G3 set up like a bass boat on the White except in higher flow, as Sfiser says they draft more water. For me it would be cheaper to just rent a river boat at Rim Shoals or one of the other out fitters as that is less than my boat insurance deductible. That said duckdoty runs his tracker jet inboard on the White and Norfork each year at jigfest without issue....but he is more skilled as both a boat operator and fisherman than myself. If you are talking a shallow water model of the G3 or Lowe, i think a 18-20 with a 60-40 jet, slight semi v could do both very well as welded units no rivets. A coat of Wetlander coating on the bottom will give the slick to slide rather than hang and bend. Boats are like golf clubs, no single one does all things.
  19. Sounds like a sweet rig, Darn the luck on the brook.
  20. what kind of jet did you get Pete?
  21. I am not complaining my friend, quite the contrary. If you do not get your act together at work and make arrangements to come, someone will need to step up and fill the void.
  22. Brett, Your fish cooker is the bomb, what kind of oil do you like to use, if I remember correctly you avoid peanut oil account of kids allergies etc. when you fry at the church, etc. would you prefer to purchase and someone help out or have someone pick up. That Flathead is some good Stuff. Quillback, I see a few others, offering jdecoudres, stinger160, Big_Jake, etc. Maybe a couple of them will pitch in on the oil LRF needs, and pitch in on cost of meat for GotMuddy and N9Bow? IF SnaggedinOutlet3 does not come who is bringing salad??LOL. I will also bring some chips and cowboy caviar (One batch without cilantro for Ham) for Horse Divers (sorry poor at English, French out of the question)
  23. Last year you got me to try anchovy now posole...
  24. Man fined for illegal trout stash WES JOHNSON WJOHNSON@NEWS-LEADER.COM A Texas man was fined $116 for taking too many rainbow trout from Lake Taneycomo, court records show. According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, Frank Barnes of Timpson, Texas, was found to have 42 trout in plastic bags and in his boat’s live well during a recent fishing trip to Lake Taneycomo. Barnes could legally possess four rainbow trout, according to MDC. Conservation agent Christopher Boyd noted in his report that Barnes said he knew he could only keep four trout and asked the agent to “go easy on him.” Along with fish that were found in Barnes’ live well, Boyd also found plastic bags of frozen trout in the hotel lodge room where Barnes was staying. Barnes’ stepdaughter also was found to have more fish in her possession, but she was issued a warning from Boyd. Barnes was fined $74.50 for failing to keep the fish separate or identifiable and $41.50 for possessing too many trout. He also was ordered to pay $183 in court costs. MDC encourages people to report illegal fishing or hunting activity by contacting a local conservation agent or calling Operation Game Thief at 1-800-392-1111.
