  1. http://www.dnr.mo.gov/pubs/WR51.pdf page 142, might be a good thing to print out and keep in the dry box, to help educate folks....any stream with sufficient flow to float a boat...pretty plain.
  2. Great report Ham, most of the Guides are excellent, but a few....???? real ...jerks.
  3. Hate to hear that, sounds like Ned rig fishermen. Love the convenience of the boat in the dock, but darn thieves have to carry everything up.
  4. Sow bugs and woolies are staples, zebra midge are good if water is low and clear, the san juan worm in brown, red or hot pink can be the ticket also. your kayak can be handy to get away from the crowds, below the dam fishes fair but gets lots of pressure. g
  5. Well against the advice of Ham (He says the river starts at Ponca) and my Wife (Thinks I am a crazy old man) I put in at Boxley and floated to Steele (Yes had to get out of Canoe to get under Ponca bridge, canoe barely cleared) Water was falling and had some color. The first half mile, fairly rough water and a ample supply of strainers. I was thinking they were right. Then like a switch no more strainers. Several interesting runs, then some nice holes in between. Had one good fish (15-17") on the ned several others, then broke off and found out I had left the ned supplies in the bass boat. No worries, switched to a 2 1/2 hula grub and continued to catch fish all day, smallmouth, few gills and goggle eys. Most smallies were the 10-12 in variety. Great day on the river and completed a bucket list goal, of floating the Buffalo from Boxley to Buffalo City. I have floated many streches several times, but had never been Boxley to Ponca. Will take these guys all day everyday.
  6. Think I still lust for a coosa for certian applications, had a Old Town Pack that was just too small for me. My Old Town 15 camper was a bit front light even running it backwards from the front seat. Decided to replace the seats thwart and yoke, so I purchased an additional seat. Used the exisiting rear holes and set the front seat one seat length toward the middle. 4 bolts and can be back to a tandem . Very pleased with the handling of the canoe, and the double blade paddle works great. If you ever need seats thwarts etc. give these folks a try, http://www.essexindustries.org/ it is a sheltered workshop for people with disabilities and they do fine work., g

  8. Since 1976 I have owned 3 dodges, swore each would be my last, last was a 93 not ready to be skinned again.
  9. They are often referred to as "Poor man's Lobster" I am told that they are in the same family of fish that is used to make the fake crab meat: Select some larger sheepshead(drum) so you'll get thick fillets. Cut the fillets into about 1-1/2 inch pieces. Bring salted water to a hard boil and drop in the chunks. (Depending upon the size of your kettle, don't overload it, the water should come back to a boil in half a minute or so). Stir gently a couple of times for 1 to 1-1/2 minutes. The fish should be cooked completely through but still firm, not mushy. Drain and serve while warm with garlic butter as a dip. Also, you can chill the cooked chunks and serve with cocktail sauce as Poor Man's Shrimp. http://www.justapinch.com/recipes/poor-mans-lobster.html http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2002&dat=19900314&id=WrciAAAAIBAJ&sjid=JrUFAAAAIBAJ&pg=3688,2482217 G

  14. I have a Knives of Alaska fillet knife, does a fine job, better for boning deer and elk than filleting fish, it is a bit stiff, for my taste but holds a edge well. Like others I like the electric for the filleting, but prefer a more flexible blade for removing rib cages. The knife I use the most is a kershaw folding fillet, can stick in your pocket, no sheath to lose, it hold an edge, and the cost is reasonable...... under $20 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kershaw-Folding-Fillet-Knife-NEW-Free-Shipping-/301194544782?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item462098068e#ht_412wt_1238 g
