  1. Jake Quillback is the room guy usually. He gets a head count and lines up a place at Riley's for us to stay, the Locals, like Ham and Mike Worley usually just come to fish, eat and socialize, staying at their home. We organize trips and who;s in who's boat, usually trading around to get to know more folks. As it gets nearer we will put together eats and who is bringing what. Fairly loose format. If I remember correctly, last year Phil brought smoked chickens one night, I brought some Crappie, Bret some flathead for a fish fry other added taters etc. then Terrierman brought some killer jalapeno brats to go with a pot of chili I cooked on the smoker one night. You can stay where ever you like, Riley's usually is fairly inexpensive as we spit the costs for each night by the folks who stay. Miles treats us very fair. He has other cabins if you require more privacy. Quil will need a head count to ensure we have enough rooms. Hope this helps..
  2. Looks like I can make it Thursday afternoon early.
  3. Likely the two best jig fishermen I know, look out trout. I am trying to get Thursday and Friday off. Duane and/or Bill would be a pleasure to fish with, and always welcome in my boat. Terrierman's 2048 with the flat floor is a bit more stable than my 2042. We will figure it out,
  4. Last week never fell below 2500 cfs most under 3000 which is perfect jig water for me. Unfortunately the fly rod stayed in the truck most of the week. I may be able to sneak on down Thursday will be a late decision if I can get my must do work for the week done. Will have two open seats in my boat also. Friday night for sure, do my best to make Thursday. Will be a blast.
  5. In addition I will add brown/orange and pink/chartreuse the past week.
  6. Little Red is the Jerk bait knowledge guy. Caught some nice Browns.
  7. do a search of the Forum, Ham has posted base colors and weights for the various cfs etc. Good Stuff.
  8. What part Pete should be great right now? I should likely wait til Friday was just informed I am out of vacation.....must be a mistake....
  9. I am up for Thursday but flexible. Wife will make desserts, cowboy caviar can do chili or whatever is needed. Sure i can find a fish or two and taters hush puppies some deer sausage Will have my trout boat, open to ??? G
  10. Thats great, your cooker is so much nicer than mine. My crappie stocks are low. I could likely .....catch.... some suckers before then. Have to remember your sweat shirt g
  11. I also have one of those on my truck, it works swell with the canoe. With the yak if i put it bottom down, it slips off, cracks a truck windshield,(that's experience not theory) if i place top down it will not slide over. Like I said earlier, I must be doing something wrong. But sure handy loading canoe on 3/4 ton 4x4. g
  12. Here is a recent thread that beat it to death:
  13. I must be doing something wrong. Harder for me to put a 62# tarpon on car top than 17'4" tripper on top 2500. Could you post a video or give some technique tips. Thanks g
  14. You all do what you need to. Will do my best to make whatever work, as it is a great time. I promise to not file a hurt feelings report if ir does not work out for me. g

  16. Cody, any chance you could come Friday and go back for the Party on Sat. Last year, I think that Eric, Rick and myself were the only folks left Saturday night, and Eric got up and left early Sunday morning. Leaving poor Rick stuck to fish with me all day. Just a thought. g
  17. 11/12-20 deer firearms season in Missouri I have not shot a deer in years that was not wounded but now as the senior member of our family deer camp, will have to be there. Arkansas Mizzou 11/25 I know it will likely be ugly but I have to be there...12/17 Riley Beer Pong in St. Louis... not very good but have to be there... Will do what I can to make whenever will wax the front deck and take the seat out to give Got Muddy some more room to break dance up there.... It is a good time, with good folks, some very good fishermen we share ideas I always learn a lot. and FYI Snagged in outlet 3 gets in some fly fishing, me too sometimes. g
  18. It was a breath of fresh air to have a person who hunts and fishes leading those tree huggers over at DNR, (yes I know I have some bark marks myself) She seems level headed and involved in the outdoors. g
  19. Owning several of each, being in my very late 50s I can tell you it is easier to load my 17'4" tripper canoe on top of my truck than the yaks. I have a wilderness tarpon and a perception pescaodor weigh about 62# Kayaks are just harder to handle solo as they are bulky and difficult to use leverage. My yaks are used on still water where I might get swamped or on higher water streams that a old man should likely should not be on but.....Thankfully I was able to purchase a Wennoah Wilderness solo before the end of Royalex which is my favorite solo boat. IMO the best value out there is the Perception Pescador at Academy $549 got mine on sale for 399, Think Ozark Mt. Trading Co can get you in one for about 500.... or at least match Academy. Good Paddling g
  20. Prayers going.
  21. The guys at Snappy Sports there in Kalispell used to be a good source of info, did not look like much from the road, but had casting ponds and knowledgeable folks, but it has been a while. g
  22. Squeaky wheel gets the oil. View this email in your browser Your Letters May Help This past June, a Springfield teenager was trapped and died in a failed section of the Dawt Mill dam on the Upper North Fork. There is now a call for action to remove the dam to prevent future tragedies. A TU member, Shawn Taylor expressed his concerns about this dam removal at our August member meeting. He believe this dam provides a barrier that prohibits predator fish such as walleye and stripers coming up from Lake Norfork. Once removed, the trout population could be in real danger. We are asking TU members to write to the Missouri Department of Conservation encouraging them to look at other ways to make the river safe without compromising the wild trout population. We are not asking the MDC to rebuild the dam, as that is not their role. We are simply asking them to be more than neutral on the subject and open for collaboration with private organizations if there is the will and money to rebuild. They have participated in other such projects in the past. You can write letters to both: Nathan Recktenwald, Fisheries Biologist and A J Pratt, Fisheries Supervisor 551 Joe Jones Blvd West Plains Mo 65775 Nathan.recktenwald@mdc.mo.gov Anthony.pratt@mdc.mo.gov Background: Upper North Fork Rainbow trout were introduced in Missouri waters in 1882 and are restricted to a few areas of the Ozarks. The North Fork of the White River not only sustains trout, but is one of the few waters in the Ozarks that supports a naturally reproducing population of wild Rainbow trout. Between Rainbow Springs and Blair Bridge is the Missouri Wild Trout Management Area of the North Fork River. This area has not been stocked with Rainbow trout since 1964 and features excellent fly fishing for wild rainbows. According to 2001 inventory and assessment of the North Fork River performed by the Missouri Department of Conservation, the Dawt Mill dam is the only water control structure on the that river. It is less than eight feet high, located nearly two miles above Tecumseh in Ozark County. The dam was originally constructed in the late 1800s to supply power to Dawt Mill and has always been privately owned. The dam has been rebuilt and repaired several times, as recently as 1993, due to flooding damage. Shawn Taylor will be speaking about the Dawt Mill dam at the NAFF meeting next Tuesday, August 16th. 7:00-9:00 Van Matre Senior Center.
