  1. Seriously, based on other lure colors that seem to work, I would try a PBJ. I might also try a light gray with silver and black specks to imitate the smoke with seed that seems so deadly.
  2. These seem to work for me. ;-)
  3. I have fished twin spins as my primary blade bait for over 20 years. I have resorted to making my own for most of that time. I saw that War Eagle had put a new twin spin product on the market and ordered some. High quality components. Very compact design (that's good). Decent color schemes. Can't wait to try them.
  4. A couple of years ago I put an article on my blog page about boat choices. Check it out.
  5. Really neat viewing. I have so few tool skills, I can only begin to appreciate someone who makes his tools and knows how to use them.
  6. There is a small but rather hardcore group of walleye chasers here. We look forward to any information you provide.

    Thanksgiving

With an idea like that, late is okay. Smoke, bacon, wild rice, and you get to call it a vegetable dish. Cool.
  8. KCRR: Best wishes for Christmas for you and the lady. In fact best wishes to all.
  9. Dutch: I re-read my post, and you are right. I was not clear. If I find someone making bare jigs in bulk, they will be much cheaper than finished jigs or even painted ones in blister packs. On the other hand, if no one seems to make what I want, I have made spinner baits and have that equipment. All I would need would be to find the mold most likely to fit with the hook and do a minimal modification. Ham: I use your behind the hang technique, but not the knocker. Maybe I should try one. Still, it would be fun to try this idea out.
  10. This last year I began to simplify what I carry in the boat to use. For example, I have carried Big O type baits for over 30 years. I haven't used one with any success on TR since I moved here. They were great on the murky Oklahoma lakes and ponds I used to fish. Using a criteria of what has worked for me here and what you all report frequently, I pared my gear down to half of its former bulk. In this process I decided to rely more and more on jigs with soft plastics - finesse worms, regular worms, grubs, and craw creatures. Jewel jigs are great, Techo, but the way the lake eats them I am looking for simpler, cheaper alternatives. Bought some bulk jigs from Crenshaw on ebay and had success during the fall. But he makes light wire jigs. I would like to try a football,Arkie, or Sparkie type jig made with the Owner reverse sproat hook. Anyone using/making something similar? Of course since we are talking TR, I am not interested in the 5 packs available at most vendors. Comments? Advice?

    Thanksgiving

Here it is a year later. Hope everyone had as good a year as I did (except for a few trolling motor troubles). This years menu has some differences - the fudge pie will be a pecan chocolate one instead. I will do a broccoli/cauliflower/spinach gratin instead of the mushroom and broccoli. I will butterfly the turkey again. It worked great for moist meat and a crisp skin. Tell us what you will do this year.
  12. Lunkers love Nightcrawlers. URL: http://www.amazon.com/New-Updated-Lunkers-Love-Nightcrawlers Buck Perry's Guidelines to Fishing Success - out of print but available here and there pre 1990 Fishing Facts magazines In Fisherman (except for their ratings of equipment) Internet ----> Tackle Tour, for equipment ratings, including line and knots good luck rps
  13. I didn't get free to go on the water until 10:00. Never did find quality fish like that handsome smallmouth. I did catch a steady progression of shorts until 3:00 when I had to come in. If 8 to 14 inch fish are your thing, try a green short worm on a 1/8 ounce jig head and scrub the bottom where flats drop into channels. It was a great day to be on the water.
  14. I fished the Holiday Island area Saturday 10 to 3. First time on the water in several weeks - 4? 5? Anyway, I started with a walking bait as the cloud cover was still there. Nada. Tried the wart. Nada. Jig with plastic craw. Nada. Reaction Flirt on a 1/8 ounce jig head fished Charlie Brewer style - 6 fish (5LM, 1 SM) with one keeper and two near keepers. Fish in 8 to 20 feet of water. Water temp 55 to 57. Hope everyone else didn't have to work that hard to get bit. "Do nothing" fishing works, but it wears me out.
  15. Many of the forum members have fished many places. Good tales. Great memories. What many fail to realize: If you start here, there isn't much upscale left out there. But don't tell others that! Soon there won't be room for any of us.
  16. Yes, canvas. I believe it was called pinion or something like that. It was yellowish brown and shellacked like the fabric biplanes. I was five or six. By the time I was ten, Dad had a fiberglass tiller steer.
  17. Fished Bull Shoals with Dad from a canvas boat in the 50's. Used a green box Lowrance on BS and TR in the early 60's. Fished Eucha and Spavinaw in the same time frame. Started fishing the White, below BS, in 78 or 79. Somewhere in there, I became addicted. Does this count?
  18. My Dad has been gone now eight years. Looking back: Dad fishing is the best, especially when you are very young or when he has slowed. Bless you and him, both. Good fish!
  19. Just a thought: I am very happy with my Native Watercraft Ultimate 12. You can modify the seating to sit higher - as in a canoe - with the addition of a cushion under the very comfortable chair/seat. Check it out. There are old threads dealing with them as well.
  20. Clear water highland reservoir with much timber. Very pretty. Flooded in the 80's so past the new lake prime but not over used because of limited accessibility. Three species. Will fish very similar to Broken Bow, a little farther south. Wilburton, the county seat for Latimer county, is the closest town, but it's not much. Always intended to fish it but never did. Hope that helps.
  21. All joking aside, I have a short, wide hand. When I learned on a Shakespeare, I used my right hand to control the spool handle, and trigger. I used my left hand on the butt for leverage and direction control. I hate pistol grips and use a 9 to 11 inch straight butt so I can use my left hand, even on light BC rigs. The only time I one hand cast is when I underhand loop cast. I did not start palming until low profiles came out. Then I switched from holding the rod ABOVE the spool on retrieve to palming. This also explains why I dislike the Bass Pro Power hump. By now, muscle memory is so embedded change would be very nearly impossible.
  22. In the words of one of my students, "What was it we were supposed to do?"
  23. You know what some say, "Big hands, big ... wait for it ... fingers."
  24. After research, the best knot for braid to hook is a DOUBLE Palomar. Look up Tackle Tour and their braid knot tests. Tie the classic Palomar but put the looped end through the loop twice. For a flouro or mono line to hook knot, tackle tour has not tested the Davy. Argue away.
  25. Not handy but I'll get one.
