  1. I just recieved a large package of Naked NuTech Jig heads from Bo. High quality stuff folks. I will be dressing them with deer hair in Craw type colors. I will post pictures. I will fish these very old school with pork frog trailers. Last weekend I used pork frog trailers on my spinner bait for the first time in a while. I had forgotten how much difference it made to use real rind trailers if you pretreated them. I will post pictures of that as well. It is time some of you learned old boy tricks before we all go to the next "new, best lake."
  2. I get to go out Saturday, the first day of my Spring Break. I am looking forward to finding a small bite.
  3. OMG. A couple of Hughes paints on warts. What a win?!
  4. Count that day as a win! Commit the details to memory. You have a story for years now.
  5. Phil, good point. However, many people desire instant and personal gratification. That will not change. I know you know that, but you are preaching to an empty choir box. What is really sad, to me, is that someone could go to the archives you have built up on this forum and educate themselves on any species on any Ozark water, in a very short period of time. Rather like having five years of Fishing Facts or eight years of In Fisherman.
  6. What I bought: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/BalZout_Electronics_Mounts_/descpage-BALZ.html
  7. Panther Creek, Owl Creek, or Roaring River will offer higher temp water.
  8. That would be me, dummy that I am. Keep it t the store and I will show up to claim it before July.
  9. Learning what works for you is so cool.
  10. OK. It will be a great rod. Who are you going to hire to carry it to the boat?
  11. That I understand. Look at the Pac Bay Minima with titanium rings and hard chrome inserts molded to stay in the ring. Tests show it stands up as well as ceramic and way lighter. http://www.mudhole.com/Rod-Building/minima-4/CT4CG-Minima-4-Casting-Guides-TiChrome
  12. Good advice. I just did not want to create pressure for Nathan to spend more than he felt comfortable spending. That is partially the resaon I suggested the Falcon HD. That is their off shore made lower price alternative and the one I have has borne bottom bouncing well. As for guides popping off, Scott. Google the Forhan lock wrap. If you finish the wrap that way, it only breaks off, never pop off. Second suggestion: If you make the rod with a spiral/acid/revolver guide setup, the sideways torque that ruins guides goes away. Most of the salt water custom builders recommend the spiral wrap. Just saying.
  13. The medium power rod choice would work for two or three seasons - certainly long enough for you to perfect the method.

    What's Cooking?

I finally learned to cook to temp and not time. For the connective tissue to turn to soft gel, the internal temp must reach 185 to 190. Until it does, keep cooking!
  15. Every comment made so far is good advice. You ought to see Terry's two handed approach in action. If you are going to buy, buy the Falcon HD medium action, medium power 7' rod. http://www.amazon.com/Falcon-Rods-HD-Casting-Rod/dp/B008ES5F46 For my take on BB, read this: http://www.ozarkanglers.com/white-river-walleye-on-worm-harness/ I run Power Pro Depth-Hunter on any reel with a good drag.

    What's Cooking?

Well done on the beef and stout! Good movie choice too!
  19. More than one person asked me which blank I used to build my Ned Rig casting rod. It was a Mudhole SJ8600-MHX blank that is designated as fast action, medium light power, 6-12 line, 1/16 to 3/8 lure, 7'2". Today I had an older Curado on it. I will switch that to my Revo MGX this week. dtrs5kprs: It is sweet.
  20. I enjoyed meeting ebveryone as well. Thanks QB, Phil, Bill, and all who contributed.
  21. My math teacher wife pointed out tomorrow is the once a century Pi day. 3.14.15. I have five packages of wings (about 60 pieces) marinating tonight. I plan to pack them, the charcoal, etc. in the boat and motor down to Eagle Rock in the morning. I expect fog and I have to go pickup some gas first, so I probably will not be in the crack of dawn crowd. I plan to arrive, unload, fish for a bit, and then come back to cook wings. The new Ned casting rod will be with me for others to try. I am NOT trying to sell anything. I only make rods because I have never found a reasonably priced professional maker that does what I ask. Hoglaw did a great job for me when I was banged up, but he is a hobbyist that I hate to ask twice. I am looking forward to this!

    Gearing Up!

I took the skirts off two PBJ War Eagle twin spins and tied on a blend of brown/green/orange/yellow/black deer hair. I have modified Uncle Josh crawdad rinds to attach. I will spray them with attractant and I will drag them just above the bottom on transition banks. I don't know of any other way to tempt the big mommas better.
  23. I had Scott at HLS order me some. The Rapalas have a built in single hook at each end. I used dykes to cut those off and leave only the treble. Good stuff.

    Gearing Up!

Although many will say a Ned Rig rod is not the best weapon for a big bass gathering, I will use it as one of my three rigged rods. I plan to fish the heavy stick with twin spins and jigs, the crankbait stick with a wart or a rockcrawler, and the new stick with a Ned or grub.
  25. I just put the first epoxy coat on the new Ned Rig casting rod. I will fish before I second coat, just in case I want to move guides. I am excited as I think it will work beautifully. Today, I also received my package from dtrs5kprs. I have a fisful of 1/16th and 1/8th heads to fish on that new rod. My Spring Break from school starts a week from tomorrow. I will fish 4 or 5 days of that break then drag the boat in for its annual maintenance and then I install the new sonar. I'm not going to be able to sleep this week!
