  1. That doesn't make sense. On the south side the fence is set well back of the creek. There is a red gate to gain access. On the north side there used to be walk through that would allow access but keep livestock in. I see now that has been removed and access on this side of the creek has been closed off. I thought the MDC paid him a small fee to allow access on both sides and that was why the gate was there. Also if I remember, his property stops at the gate and long drive that goes south just to the west of the parking lot. The MDC just didn't put in a parking lot on his property. And I am quite sure he didn't put one in if he doesn't want fisherman around. Something smells fishy to me and it ain't the trout.
  2. Nice job! Probably a husband and wife. LOL!
  3. Hey Ducky, CD wants to now if you are interested in a hunt on the Rock? John, I'm hoping this weather pushes down some more. But I don't want them going too far south! They need to stop at the border! Chris- I am going to have to call you this year for a float. I know I said I would 2 years ago.
  4. I doubt the can get over the dam at Baxter Springs. I know they for sure can't at Riverton. Unless Empire Lake has a population of them, I don't see it happening.
  5. But they were on a mission today and were not willing to play our little game. We were on Stockton today and saw most of them early. They knew exactly where they were wanting to go and were not looking for groups to join. It was a really tough day. CD did manage to get some shots off though. On the way home I scouted some of my old haunts. Found literally almost a thousand Canada's working and searching different fields. Also saw six swans. That was really cool. That was the first time CD got to see swans. The bounty
  6. The rational for using pork in the winter was the same rational for why we used it in the summer or any other season. It was all we had. Us poor folk anyway. I skimmed that article. If little Timmy was having trouble with his hook point getting buried in the pork, he wasn't attaching it correctly. I don't know of anyone that used pork frogs that ever had that happen. And I never used more than one frog per day. Those things are absolutely indestructible!
  7. Thanks fellas. Looks like this weekend is shaping up to be really good.
  8. Doesn't appear so. That is old school anyway. Nobody uses that junk anymore. We have all these new fangled baits the fish are just crazy for.
  9. Yeah they did. But I think I had more fun watching and listening to them!
  10. ...who doesn't like Redheads???
  11. I was out by 9:30. I got a new book in the mail yesterday by the daughter of a Jim Owen guide and got started on it last night. I didn't last as long as I wanted too but I'll get more chapters in tonight!
  12. We found them on the smaller bodies of water Sunday. It was brutal due to the wind and low temps but CD scored some Red Heads. Canada's were flying all day but the ducks were sitting tight.
  13. If that was the case, then those companies, that capture the wind and sell it out-of-state, would be out of business.
  14. I still say we already have a lake at Riverton KS. Empire Lake which I do believe it is owned by Empire Electric. It is at the junction of Spring river, Center creek and Shoal creek. More than enough water in my opinion. I remember when this first came up and we all were concerned and looking for other viable options. In all of the articles that were posted, none of them ever spoke of this lake as a source.
  15. They are tagging them to study their migration. They have different monetary values. $5, $10, $25. LOL!
  16. They were all gigged out if their migration holes.
  17. I thought they liked those flying carp?
  18. I most always, not always, pack the spinning rod. And as you learned this fall, 5' to 5 1/2' is all you need. For the tackle, I mostly downsize my cranks. You will never go wrong with a Teeny Wee Craw. But make sure you get the deep diver version. You can work more of the water column with them than you can with the short billed version. The smaller shad type cranks are also killer. Another way to fish these small baits is to add a split shot about about 6 inches to a foot above the crank. Toss it to the edge of or on the bottom end of a riffle and let the current provide the action. Smaller stick baits like the floating Rapala also work great. But also pack one of the CD models. Like a CD 3. You can work these like a small jig deeper in the water column with great results. I like the gold and black. And don't ever over look the good ol' Beetle Spin. Still to this day one of the most productive baits you can use on smaller streams. I like small plastics too. The 1 1/2" or 2" soft craw on a 1/32 oz will produce all day. Smaller worms, in the 4" to 6" range either texas rigged or on a jig head will work wonders too. An H&H spinner is really good on smaller creeks. One thing you need to do on these smaller baits is change out the hooks. Most, like the Teeney Wee Craw, come with a #14 treble. I change all mine to a #10 gold. You don't have to have gold, I just think it adds a little flash. And I only change the rear hook. You don't have to have a large variety on smaller creeks. Four or five cranks and a handfull of small soft plastics will fit the bill all day. I don't discount what Al said either. We just have a different approaches.
  19. 10-4. And Merry Christmas to you and yours. You get both of them girls something really special!
  20. Sweet! I haven't forgot myself. We'll get together this year! Looking at a trip on the very upper Meramec.
  21. Just a little play on where the quail went. Richard Ramirez aka The Night Stalker.
  22. The Night Stalker? I thought Richard was still working on his time?
  23. Personally I don't think the bigger fish of any species is as good as the smaller legal fish. With the exception of crappie and walleye.
  24. I love it when they have those red eyes! And I'm glad to finally see you in something other than those gay shorts you always wear.
