Almost Too Much Of A Good Thing...
Chief Grey Bear replied to Al Agnew's topic in General Angling Discussion
I don't know that I would point the finger at the 5 milers. Like I stated earlier 5 miles is about my high water mark. But I also do a good bit of swimming and wading. I cover the water pretty thoroughly but I don't "mine it" for every fish. I like to keep moving like you, just not quite as fast. I let the current dictate my speed most of the time. I am not one to stay on a spot until I stop getting bites. If I wanted that, I would start lake or pond fishing. But I do understand what you are saying. -

WOW! Thrid day, late start, 13 miles, 125 fish and off the water by 3:00, priceless. Way to go Al, that is incredible! That is more like a marathon trip. 30 some miles in 3 full days is too much for me and you did it in much less time. I salute you for that. I can only do about 5 miles a day. But most of my trips are only about 6-8 hrs too. If I could do more saturday fishing, I would go longer. Lucky you! When are you going to write a book? I want a signed copy. -
I'll probably pick a date in Sept. Water is still warm and less chance of rain. Of course rain may not be a problem.

Judge Throws Out Missouri Some Hunting Regulations

My mistake. I must have read that wrong. But anyway you look at it or try to spin it, to hunt is to pursue. Sitting motionless in a tree stand on even in blind, is to pursue. -

It is illegal to shoot a deer that is the water. That would include standing knee deep in a pond drinking. But I never said anything about shooting a deer swimming. I just assumed that you knew that regulation. -

I don't know how much "chasing" you can do from a canoe. Seems pretty limited to me. Much like walking the woods, which I have shot a lot of deer while walking. But even from a canoe, you would be even more limited. -

Why do you consider hunting from a canoe unethical? A lot of old timers still duck hunt that way. Some squirrel hunt and some deer hunt from a canoe too. I would love to take a late fall or winter float and shoot some tree rats. But I question the legality of that in the sense it doesn't appear you need land owner permission. -
Sometime this winter, I'll meet up with ya down there. I usually don't fish until dec or jan.

All is well. It is just a little fun that eric and I have.

It was quite a day. It was pretty slow gowing for the most part. I could pick up a few here and there. But it sure was a long time between the here's and there's. Then about 3:00, they started to cooperate. I had a chrome tadpolly and I mean they just slammed that thing! In fact, as soon as I released that brownie, I didn't even move and I dropped that tadpolly in by a log and another one just freaking ripped it. I ended the day somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 or 20, including one crappie and some goggle eye's. Dylan had a pretty good day too. He had on a lot of fish that he just couldn't stick. But he did get quite a few to the boat. Dayton caught around 14 and had the time of his life. Him, Dylan and Ian did a lot of swimming and so did me and Mike. I even found a rod and reel at one of our swim breaks.

What, no tadpolly's? No riverrunts? No wigglewarts? What kinda collection is this??? But just asking, in #7, are some of those count downs?

Looks like a nice trip. I had planned on putting in around Devil's Elbow this year and floating to the Gas. But I don't think it will happen. I am guessing from the pic's you guy's started on the Little Piney?????? Another float I want to do. Wheatie, you'll never make chief of your tribe with that hat. You gotta fold up that brim some! And that smallmouth didn't get that from tobacco. That is a direct result of C&R brownie fishing. That is why you should be a KFC (keep, fry, consume) fisherman. Especially when brownie fishing.

Judge Throws Out Missouri Some Hunting Regulations

A bicycle is a mechanical means of transportation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine According to the MDC : Pursue or Pursued: The act of trying to find, to seek or to search for wildlife for the purpose of taking wildlife http://mdc.mo.gov/about-us/regulations/regulations-and-permits-definitions I find this to be pretty cut and dry too. -

I would assume that since the MDC sponors hunts for and constructs special blinds for those that are bound to wheelchairs, that they support them and their right to hunt. And I do too. Reasonably???? I don't think so. As you said that would be an extreme. And even at that, the MDC advocates the planting of food plots. They even offer instructions on to properly plant them. And as for the picking up of your deer, once the deer is dead, the hunt is over. Therefore the pursuit is over. But these are just my opinions. But I don't think they are that far off. -
gave old man wrench a happy birthday. Well, happy birthday!

I don't have a problem with it.

Judge Throws Out Missouri Some Hunting Regulations
Chief Grey Bear replied to denjac's topic in Conservation Issues
Here is the line that I like" It left it up to the agent’s interpretation, and you can’t have a law applied based upon the feelings of a law officer,” Moore said. “Where it says you can’t pursue deer with the aid of a vehicle, who the hell knows what that means?” And the supposedly educated judge buys it! -
Judge Throws Out Missouri Some Hunting Regulations

I don't think it is over yet. It looks as if one of these idiots has gotten busted by the MDC in a sting operation and has a felony charge against him. I am thinking that they think if they get this law changed, as they have so far, then that felony charge will be dropped. But according to an MDC person, there are other laws in the Wildlife Code that also prohibit this. So the MDC maybe taking a wait and see approach at the moment but I can assue you, wheels are turning behind the seen in case. But I will say, I am smelling a bit rat with this judge and the worthless hunter involved. ST. LOUIS (AP) A southeast Missouri judge has ruled that state regulations prohibiting the use of dogs and vehicles in deer hunting are so vague that they are unconstitu...tional. Missouri Department of Conservation spokesman Joe Jerek said Friday that department lawyers are still deciding whether to appeal the ruling handed down earlier this month by Ripley County Circuit Judge Robert Smith. Ripley County hunters Neil Turner and Bobby Shannon Jones sued in February over the regulations, which prohibit such things as hunters driving through the woods or using dogs to scare deer out into the open, or shooting deer from a car. Violations are class A misdemeanors. The regulations are vague, overly broad, indefinite and fail to establish sufficient standards so that people of ordinary intelligence must necessarily guess at their meaning, Smith wrote in the Aug. 5 ruling. In our area, hunting is not only for recreation but it is a part of our way of life and any infringement of this right must be constitutional, Smith wrote. At issue are Conservation Department regulations that prohibit the use of a motor-driven air, land or water conveyances while deer hunting. The department also has a regulation stating that deer may not be hunted, pursued, taken or killed with the aid of dogs, in use or possession. Big picture, these regulations are in place to help ensure ethical hunting and fair chase, and also, based on our scientific management, to help protect and sustain wildlife species, Jerek said. But Daniel Moore, an attorney for Turner and Jones, said the wording confuses both hunters and the conservation agents charged with enforcing the regulations. It left it up to the agents interpretation, and you cant have a law applied based upon the feelings of a law officer, Moore said. Where it says you cant pursue deer with the aid of a vehicle, who the hell knows what that means? Turner was arrested and faces federal charges after a 2008 undercover investigation into illegal hunting activities, known as Operation Pulling Wool. Moore said negotiations continue with federal prosecutors and he is hopeful the case will be settled before it goes to trial. Were not against hunting regulations, but its just not fair if you dont know whether youre in violation or not, Moore said. Jerek said the acts prohibited by the regulations are also covered by other laws and regulations, and are still considered impermissible despite the judges ruling. -
