Question for you trollers. I have been walleye fishing and trolling for 6-7 years now. On Stockton, i seldom catch bass trolling. I catch plenty of walleye, crappie, whites and even have caught more catfish trolling than I have bass. Trolling TR I do catch lots of Kentuckies. One of the few bass I have trolled up on Stockton was 6.5lbs but it was one of very few I have caught. Any ideas or is it just me?
This conversation sounds similar to the Alabama rig conversation when it first came out. I don't think the Ned rig or the A rig will affect fish catching significantly. I still catch fish just like I did before either bait came out. I don't see scores of dead bass anywhere on the Rock or Stockton and I fish one or the other 2-3 times a week. It's just another bait to catch fish.
We were in Sons all day Saturday. Caught 40+ bass with just two keepers, one was 3.5lbs. The majority came on jerkbait shallow. Caught fish on just about everything we threw though. SB, jig, red eye shad, wart.
Fished most of the day yesterday in this area with a couple of buddies and my dog. Ended up with 20 crappie, 32 whites, 2 keeper eyes ( one was 5.5 lbs). Caught a bunch of short fish also. Most everything was 6 fow or less. Chartruese swimming minnows mostly. Best water temp I saw was 58.
I find its nice to fish in the heat of summer not only because the fish are active but running down the lake there are pockets of cool air like air conditioning
Didnt someone catch a 19lb eye down there a few years ago during a large bass tourney? Seems I heard about that. Also work with a guy who dives down there said there are some eyes bigger than volkswagons there.......
I have enjoyed fishing walleye tourneys in the past and fish a lot of bass tourneys now. I want to confess that I grew up eating bass in Louisiana. I even ate a 5.5lber. I am so ashamed now :-) I don't eat many bass anymore, due to the fact that could be my tournament winning bass in the skillet. My choice, I don't push that too much on other people. I remember releasing several walleyes at the end of our walleye tournament weighins.
One question I do have for my walleye brethren. Do you see many walleye with hook marks in them? I have seen very few walleyes like that but have seen a ton of bass with hook marks in their mouths.
My partner and I have caught trout in the past several years between Baxter and Kimberling City. Its interesting that all of them have been 3lb+ rainbows. Only average one or two a year either trolling for eyes or throwing jerkbaits. Never have targeted them though, just accidentals.
Fished Bridgeport area for crappie today. Caught 10 up to 14" with a few small whites. Anywhere from 6-20 fow on white jigs.
When we leaving we found a trailer license plate in the parking lot at the Bridgeport ramp. If its yours let me know and I will get it to you.
