  1. Wrench, I can't believe you're hot-spotting your own secrets!! Unless you're giving out dis-information.
  2. It amazed me how many of the longboat clients we drifted past down there on the White would ask their guides "Whut kindza boat izat?"
  3. It's a baitcasting rod, but it takes the line from the topside of the rod to the underside with the spiral wraps.
  4. Megabass Shiryu Tomahawk F4-610GT3 I'm about to Ebay this rod but thought I would offer it here first. This rod is in in mint, un-fished condition. This is a 1-piece 6-foot, 10-inch bait-casting rod. This is a serious rod for tournament-type anglers, and I'm just not that serious so it needs to be in the hands of someone who is. Those who like these rods covet them and they typically sell for $400-$500. It really is an exquisite piece of gear. Offering it here for $300, I'll pick up the shipping. PM if interested, thanks. This site has a lot of specs on the rod if you want more details: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewmbshiryu610.html
  5. X4 on Sweetwater Trigg.
  6. Nearly a dozen strong men, and a couple of weak ones, were lost to Cottonheads down there last year.
  7. Wayne was a good man. Floated with him once, hung out a couple other times at gatherings, wish I could have fished with him more. A member of MFU, he was our senior member. He had at least one story, maybe three for every scenario. A wealth of experience. We'll miss you Wayne.
  8. We may have to try that huh?
  9. Old topic.....but I just found it buried...... Love GRODs GS' and Redbud's Stang. My toy: 70 GTO 400 4-speed 3.55 Posi Restored by myself to factory colors No, I didn't paint it, but I did everything else with the help of some friends
  10. It appears both of those are button heads.
  11. Great buck, congrats. Will be taking a couple of days off to have an extended weekend and get serious about it this week.
  12. He's into Herpetology. That's not going to scare him off.
  13. MDC has stated from the beginning of this project that the goal was to establish a huntable population. I am surprised at how early they are predicting hunting to be available. I figured it would take 10-12 years to get to that point. I'll apply for a permit along with the 100,000 others.....

    Advice

    Money well spent eh?
  15. Big walleye hard to come by on Stockton. I heard of an 18 lb'er from Stockton about 10 years ago. The guy that told me about it doesn't lie to me, but I don't know about the fellow who told the guy. Most of our walleye we catch run 13-18 inches, with a few over 20 each year.
  16. I don't have any options for you. I would suggest contacting this guy to answer your questions, and post what you find out from him. Fisheries Management Biologist Adam Boman Southwest Regional Office 2630 N. Mayfair Springfield, MO, 65803 417-895-6880 adam.boman@mdc.mo.gov
  17. I took a gun safety/hunting course in Junior High. Jefferson Junior High in the 70s. It wasn't a whole semester, just an alternate block. 5-12 year olds is probably a little young, but teenagers could benefit from it. I see no problems with teaching kids safety around things with the potential to harm or kill. Like cars in Driver's Ed., kitchen tools in Home Ec. or the tools in shop.
  18. About a quarter-mile upstream from the park.
  19. Eagles are at Lake Springfield from mid November to mid February in general. Ditto for most Ozarks rivers and other lakes. Although more and more we see them all year at Stockton as the resident/nesting population builds. I'm assuming the same is true for all of the major reservoirs, and I have seen them on the Current and Big Piney in the summer recently as well.
  20. That'll work for about 2 or 3 nights.
  21. I applaud the effort. The other recent thread about spawning makes me wonder if there's a better time than early Feb. to do extensive cleanup efforts? How much wading and stream bed disturbance is done is done to remove trash and debris directly from the stream? It amazes and saddens me to see how many tires there are in the stream bed. A buddy and I talked about this last time we were on the stream and are planning on making an effort to remove some of these tires. I need to talk to MDC about what should be done with tires if removed from the bed of the stream because I'm not hauling them home. I'm willing to pull a few out every once in a while and stack them at the parking lot if MDC will dispose of them.
  22. Was at my taxidermist last night, he had a big deer in the shop that was from Stockton not too far from the park. Not the same guy I mentioned prior though. Most of the corp land gets hit pretty hard for deer and I don't think bucks get too much of a chance to get some age on them. But there are ton of deer around the lake. If I wanted to fill the freezer with a doe, that would be one of the easiest places to do it that I've seen. My brother-in-law got a handsome 8-pointer up there this year on his very first deer hunt. 2 or 3 year old buck.
  23. There's some guy that owns land adjacent to the park who uses the same taxidermist I do. All I can say is he spends a lot more money at the taxidermist than I do.
