Stockton always had drum, small ones (under 5 pounds) are good to eat, just don't over cook them!... When the meat goes opaque they are done! stop cooking!!!!!! baked in foil, salt/lemon pepper, little butter and slice of lyme...its a firmer meat kinda like grouper..if your catching Drum your prob need to fish a bit deeper for Walleyes 2-4 feet off bottom or shallower for crappies(12-14 feet suspended,) drum hang out on bottom, if you think about it they are like silver freshwater red fish....fillet a couple out of Stockton's clean water you won't be cussing them anymore trust me!

We have some mirrors here, its a recessive trait, throw backs to the original fish stocked way back in the 1870's...we have bluegills here too but they sure are not coppernose strain, our wild "feral" bluegills almost never get over 8-10 " coppernose regularly get bigger, something about reaching breeding age later, State stocked coppernose gills in Stockton in the 90's, size of gills went way up ever since.........perhaps thats what goes on in this strain of carp..spending more growth before they spend annual time growing naughty bits, or less on naughty bits, I have read that they produce 1/2 the eggs as our wild feral carp

The fish, if you look at the link I provided are individuals that are known, it takes great skill to get one to take and to land that fish, one of the toughest forms I fishing I have ever tried, I have caught trophy browns /bows, bass, muskies, pike, walleyes far more than my share, and nothing has been more difficult to master.....prob why I do it..to land one of the bigs places you in a very small club..even fame and fortune..that is coming here....like it or not..it would be like a newly american putting a knife to a 17 pound bass in lake fork...I bet he might get a woopen too, lord help you get caught tossing a muskie in the bushes yep....

no-one eats these, as a rule each fish is photographed and capture with weights documented, I read once an eastern european killed to eat a 30#er at a UK syndicate, he didn't understand and apparently got beat up to kinda school you what the deal is check out this place, notice the prices and that most of 2018 already booked, but from what I would expect they prob would taste better http://www.gigantica-carp.com

They would prob do well in stockton but the state will never put any in, they don't know how they got into bull shoals ether......

DAM SON! I am pumped!

Got a chance to go see some of these bad boys in person, they are raised till they are in the 5-10 pounds before they are stocked, with a few raised till they hit 20# the fish are fed a hi protein boilies (they prob will sell them on site) twice a week during the growing season once in syndicate lake, I am sure they will have 40 pounders in under 5 years...spring fed lake gravel bottom I can't wait till they open! its modeled after Gigantica in France, where people all over Europe pay about the equivalent of $1500 to fish 5 days http://www.gigantica-carp.com

Like I said its the SAME species, stocked on purpose 150 years ago, not "another" species Its possible..... just like florida F1 bass getting loose in a lake, or a guy pen raising hybrid stripers in beaver that get loose Theses fish get big the same way aunt martha gets 500 pounds.... eating the same things as Twiggy Jones does, they have a genetic trait that does that, ftom what I have read, if anything they produce less young than common carp already in say Tablerock, they are shaped different as they were bred for the table, with less scales for easy cleaning and deeper sides more meat to bone ratio. That is true, one study tracks a drop in Largemouth bass growth rates after common carp were removed from 500 acre lake..it seems that the carp spawned and the baby fry were munched on by the young of the year bass, after the removal bass growth slowed and recruitment was poorer, because the adults feed upon young of the year bass, funky development...wouldn't you say? Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) are not the same critter, who knows what the result will be...zebra mussels made the water clearer and game fish populations soared (all the poop water the big cities pumped in them was great food for the little clams, the goby it seems has been a boom for the smallmouth populations...I remember in the 70's no one would take a trip to the great lakes except for salmon...fishing is better today than anyone could have predicted. Rainbow & Brown trout are not native to Missouri yet people love catching them, These common carp where in our waters long before we had the dams that grace our state......, our native suckers and buffalo compete pretty well and baby carp get munched on by everything from crappie, bass catfish and muskies, flatheads etc....if the state desides to put them in a lake and limit harvest to produce trophy carp..they people will go there and spend money to fish for them, just like they go to Taney for trout or pomme for Muskies That was def not deliberate, but stocking florida non-native largemouth bass caused native fish and amphibian extinctions in California, yet has produced world record class fish...common carp are already in our waters and more and more people are euro style fishing for them, this was coming sooner than later to the USA just to much money to be made

common carp "Cyprinus carpio" have been in Missouri waters since 1877 "the grant administration, these are the same fish just better genes, it is said these are not as reproductive as our naturalized common carp "Cyprinus carpio", these fish are VERY expensive, you won't see them "dumped" illegally. its interesting that people think if you remove all "rough fish" from a body of water it = more "game fish" that is like saying killing all the deer = more wolves, doesn't work that way...deer eat grass, wolves do not....bass, don't eat what carp or buffalo eat for that matter....if a body of water is over run with carp...its a symptom of whats wrong not the cause, source point pollution, farm silt run off, .....over harvest of baby carp eaters, the places that produce monster carp usually have fantastic game fish populations, it goes hand in hand
-
Compare that with our "feral" carp.... granted in areas not BowFished (takes out the biggest fish) we can see some fish in the 20-30 pound range, usually fish in the 40" range ..these UK strains reach 20#.. 28-32"

Looks like a few waters will be getting these stateside...sorry BFers they won't be letting you Thwack these waters I can't imagine what a run from a 50-75 pound fish would be like from one of these...its no wonder people pay $2000 bucks a week to fish for these I need to find a 10acre pond somewhere some $$$$ to be made

I guess because I used to volunteer for youth most of my life I kind of take it for granted how much things have changed in my 57 years...Scouts, camping out in a pup tent in your friends back yard..riding your bike to go fishing...the excitement of fishing with your Dad or mom for that matter......kids don't get out...They play with electronic baby sitters. If things don't change, ....no one will care, so few will love the outdoors. Going to the lake won't be for the daylight sound of a lure plopping in the lake, or the mist rising off the cold waters of Taneycomo...or watching a kingfisher dive bomb a minnow while wading an ozark stream for smallmouth bass. Then no one will care about the lake of the ozark effect.... So I challenge everyone to get off our butts and get kids fishing and hunting again. not everyone was lucky enough to have family that took them out, MDC has outreach people for that very thing. but they can't do it alone... CHOP CHOP PEOPLE! http://www.startribune.com/kids-just-don-t-get-out-doors-much-anymore/15496981/

Trout are gems and as such go up in value as they get bigger! I think a trophy is to each person's eye, a 10 year old girl with a 20" bow is a lifetime memory she will never forget... IMHO such fish do that build memories, each of should look back to remember memorable catches, I think we will find not all were the biggest ever.

Everyone who has spent some time at any of our lakes can see common carp active in the day, yet they are caught easier at night (Big fish particularly). fish can be seen looking at baits & hooks, & shying away night hides many sins & the fish will feed with less caution. Stone Color or bottom matching weights, less obvious hooks lend itself to better catches, not just for carp ether! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DShAK9iYFOg <--interesting underwater footage
