So you still didn't see us fishing again......

can't speak for oneshot, but I spent good $ on a reuben heaton scale, was certified when I was in Texas, probably should look at getting it certified here in Missouri, this 1st fish from brian wingard, is 38-6# the smaller 2nd fish is spot on 20# the last fish was 43-13 #and was the Tx state record so that was on a certified scale the last fish is the UK record fish named "big rig" 69 lb 3 oz. last pic is how fish get weighed zero out the mat, we were weighing fish number 2 I had an older thread on carp size, most people way over state fish size, most scales don't weight upper weights very well, -
its always best to check!

I think thats one of those lakes you need a year permit to fish it, like 40 bucks or so, was several lakes like that in and around Rogers

they still feed on the same things and in the same places, they just get jumpy, when a common can live well over 20 years, the see a lot and remember, big ol carp don't get to be big ol carp if they are bold, getting caught or shot at or get stranded during a flood, here in our waters night is usually best for the big fish, but with all the Bfing pressure seems late morning is when we catch the biggest fish, used to be 2 am was prime time, and shine a light in the water and your done for several hours. I would love to see a 30# carp caught on a flyrod, even a mid teens fish is going take line like a champ, Stockton has carp cruse the bluff banks mid day, prob looking for insects that fall in tho the lake, if a guy wanted to catch one on a fly that might be a good place to start, a big fish there is 15# pods of a dozen or so fish used to be found on the bluff banks from point 6 to the dam from about late may on, about the time cotton seed fluff stared showing up, wouldn't be easy stalking those fish, be like poleing the flats get too close and raise your arm SWOOSH they will be gone, def be a way to get a saltwater flats fix though -

true, but I am not fishing for average common carp, I seek bigger wiser quarry, fish that can be over 40# That are hard to fool, and can shell out most tackle meant for mere mortal bass, many a rod has been snatched and lost from that 1st carp run, when I get asked what its like, I describe the run of a monster carp like a tire running down hill, you just hang on and hope your drag can hold it. the long rods with parabolic actions allow you to land those fish on the small hooks sometimes needed to fool a fish into taking your offering, these specialized rods can also chunk the heavy weights sometimes needed (3-4oz) at distances as far as 200 yards away. far enough from you so the wary-est fish will not suspect your bait. it is a joy to fish with these thin strong carbon blanks, they are not like the pool cue surf casting or catfish rods, you can feel every swish of their powerful tails and that lumbering shake from those basketball sized heads. I have a place where a large fish swims,we call her El Diablo, 1st time she was caught was 9 years ago when she was 22#. she has been caught just 4 times in 9 years.....the last time she weighed 43# the next time she gets caught she will prob be a new Missouri state record. how do we know its the same fish? she has a distinctive scale pattern and a notch in her tail fin. if that fish gets arrowed it will be a shame after blessing the 4 anglers who have been lucky enough to have placed the old girl on a mat. for some reason the tipping point for carp seems to be 20#. once they get that old and big they don't fall for things as easy as there foolish younger brethren. of all the species of fish I have chased these are the most challenging to fool, and the most powerful, just something about those long sizzling runs that just keep you coming back for more. The fish that broke the Texas state record in 2006 and won a $250,000 payday had been landed a hand full of times and released each time to get a little bigger....sadly she was arrowed not long after she broke the record, many people traveled to Austin, Texas to try for that fish, and it was for those reasons CT passed the strict no fish over 26" in trophy carp waters. so there is a reason to hide the super secret carp spot https://www.austinchronicle.com/news/2008-03-28/606181/ -

we all have non-natives that are considered invasive yet man has altered habitats so all bets are off, the ones that add get praised theater vilified as common carp become more popular the screams of non-natives and invasive just fuel the push to remove critters like brown trout and LMB food for thought https://media.giphy.com/media/3o7abu6MhmCNxqUT4I/giphy.gif

This time of year I always think back (about 94--95 )to an odd dove that fed at my bird feeders, a larger longer tailed bird I could never identify, I chalked it up to some kind of exotic that got loose somewhere, but with the advent of the internet it met the description of the extinct but one very common passenger pigeon, its rare that I came across many critters I couldn't ID, I wish I had snapped a pic. wondering if anyone here has ever seen one like this? I couldn't have been the only person that saw one of these? it seems they get sighted from time to time, would be a cool thing if a few made it http://karlshuker.blogspot.com/2017/03/posthumous-sightings-of-passenger.html

I lived in the south and was lucky to see a 14# bass alive, and several 10#s photos do not do one justice, Perhaps we will take a page out of Texas Fisheries??? if we are to better our fisheries IMHO we need to jump to genetics, 5-8# is the most realistic lunker bass anyone can expect to catch LMB, SMB could use some help as well as more slot limits, most anglers would gladly pay for a stamp for better big fish opportunities, a quick scan of social media will show plenty of folks have no problem eating 5 pound smallmouths and 8 pound LMB a more aggressive stance on regulations, and supplemental stocking of superior genetic fish would make a difference, perhaps it time to make changes? (side note interview talks of a 15# LMB gigged in Bull-shoals) https://www.news-leader.com/videos/news/local/missouri/2016/04/14/83024064/ <--Missouri Record Story https://www.facebook.com/sharelunkerprogram/photos/a.301877830900.192448.301838055900/10155902589895901/?type=3&theater <- Texas share -a lunker <

cool thing is you can have the family play on the beach and toss spoons for spanish mackerel and pompano, or toss a cast net just to see what you catch, kids love seeing all the little critters you can catch in a cast net..then there is the food things you just can't get anywhere, plus the friendly nature of the south, the off season sept on IMHO is the best for fishing, avoid spring break like the plague though for those wanting to fish for them learn to use a gotcha, walk the dog with it a foot under the surface, I like to put a treble with feathers on the back by cutting off the back hook and putting on a split ring (stainless) , kinda has a stinger hook effect, I'd bet the small one would work great for whites in the summer here

and its not vacation without a trip to the shops, rubber gators and beach buckets, flip flops etc...lol

that place is great family fun, many a young child has explored the surf for all kinds of critters, any yeah should have bought property back when it was cheaper back in the 90's you could have bought a new condo for 65k!....the rivers there are interesting and have some bass sub species with chasing, can be a bit dicey with the Gators more common, and some of the snakes can be aggressive saw this a while back, still can here my mom yelling STAY OUT OF THE PALMETTOS! rattlers are in there...
