  4. you can blame 2 things...the great flood of 1927 with its resulting loss of property, life and the devastation we just do not see in modern America, the great floods of the 1990's are the only thing that even sniffed getting close.....and the fact that people needed work in the depression area....people all over the country were effected....something was done.... as a kid growing up in the south...there still are great swaths of land that are undeveloped because of the flooding that happens most years..its been mediated by levies to some degree but the smaller rivers are not....people build "camps" on pilons..but they get wiped out every so often.....want some excitement? get to go clean up a camp in spring!..... going in a cabin is an adventure from nutrias, coons snakes and gators....crazy!
  5. yes....several "private' trout farms on tiny spring creeks in the sw and sc part of the state..most all very private...they come and go but sometimes the trout establish true that agreeded...if someone puts in the leg work to learn they might be less likely to wipe them out agreed those convos are best done in private with only your closest most trusted friends

  11. I have no idea where...but can mark the ones I do know....if ur interested...I think it was early 90's or late 80's when they tried seeding submergent weeds
  12. natural lake have less fluctuations some lakes here have weeds like taney and pomme....they have seeded weed beds on stockton in the past unsure if they have taken..I know of 2 large ones on stockton..most people think its brush.....several years ago they talked about seeding they mud flats on grand unsure if that took
  13. its been a few years but that spring area used to have big clumps of weeds and back in the day you could catch northerns and later tiger muskies in that area.....unsure why they stopped stocking those but fishing for everything was better back then...less people perhaps.....SMB fishing was better walleyes ran way bigger...you had to know what you were doing to catch them...fish seem longer and thinner than then......
  14. My brother kept us in goose..both Canadas for roasting and snow goose jerky..try it sometime a duck breast slow cooked with orange marmalade is hard to beat as well
  15. Merry Christmas Billethead.....
  16. heres a nice read https://www.fws.gov/mountain-prairie/pressrel/99-03.html
  17. My point is that killing "sky carp" will not make more mallards.....the reason for the liberalization of goose hunting rules is more to protect tundra habitat and stop the dwindling population of some other shore birds (certain rail species) the geese have adapted to take advantage of mans land use.... that with Post-glacial rebound ( the rise of land masses that were depressed by the huge weight of ice sheets during the last ice age) through a process known as isostatic depression, this has been reducing habitat (along with sea level rise) once sickness hits the goose populations it will crash..its natures way. what usually happens is once waterfowl populations drop, people will cry about what cause it..... snows, blues, and white fronted geese are not "sky carp" and once the populations reach equilibrium the reputation of them being good for nothing but compost will carry over... I have no issue with killing critters, use them is some way.....and try not to inflame the earth 1st wackos I assume the worst in people because thats what we see....95% of people are great its that 5% that do us in,... game hogging....littering....poaching My Brother is a duck hunting fool..has been for 30 years..I have duck hunted more than my share....can tell you a bazillion stories of guys getting busted breaking the rules duck hunting...... understanding the vast complexness of a biome and its interactions is a moving target nothing is set in stone....
  18. Ironically its "always" another critters "fault" isn't it? killing off all the squirrels will never equal more rabbits or deer... killing all the geese will not make more ducks.... its a pattern that repeats itself throughout wildlife management history.... when someone kills 1000 waterfowl and buries them in a ditch, or dumps them in a pile on the side of the road, it gives the ammo to take away everyone's outdoor privileges.....
  19. Found this the other day..wonder if it effects others shooting?
