He pulled a stunt a few years back in BASS where he spent his practice time going around yanking fish off beds from fellow competitors' fishing areas. Was lucky he didn't get his butt royally kicked for that. That said, the guy can fish. He's proved it on numerous occasions. But dang if I'd consider him an expert on the Ned rig or that it kills bunches of bass. Donna and I neither one have ever mortally injured a bass with a Ned rig.

Beck was a special guy in so many ways beyond being one of the best fishermen to ever set sail on Table Rock, if not THE best. Cherish those memories, Bill. And happy 2020.

Donna and I fished Sunday from Campbell Point down to Baxter. Brutally tough for us shallow-water types --- four fish in five hours. Three on a jerk bait and one on that dadgum fish-killing varmint, aka Ned. 😂

As most here know, I'm emphatically against the killing of bass for any reason. But I'd rather see them go under the knife than float away dead at launch ramps from poor handling by uncaring tournament groups. Nighttime jackpots in the heat of summer are especially at fault here. There, Terrierman, I said it for both of us. 😁

I've found thru the years that "boring" is a very relative term among fishermen. Other than topwater action, I've had guide clients call practically every tactic in the book "boring" at one point or another. Had a guy years ago down at Ouachita who grew weary of pitching a 3/4-ounce jig into matted hydrilla/coontail grass --- and he had caught four fish between 5 and 7.25 pounds in 3 hours time. My "low fun" light tends to flicker at even the thought of having to jig a spoon, unless it's a 200-fish day such as the white bass trip that my bro-in-law and I enjoyed one day several years back with Bill Babler. A close second on my "I'll just stay home and play golf" list is hurling a dad-blamed A-rig. Isn't it great that God made us all different?

Hey Kenny, it was nice to visit with you Wednesday afternoon at Rapid Robert's store in Shell Knob. Just now realized that we are both OA members. Donna and I were in the silver GMC towing the white/gunmetal/silver Ranger.

You can choose to fish that deep and more power to those who do, but there isn't a single day out of the year that it's necessary to fish deeper than 20 feet to catch bass consistently. That's the beauty of Table Rock ---- there are always several different ways to catch them at the same hour of the same day. It's all a matter of how badly a guy wants to learn to effectively fish deep, shallow or in between.

If it were me and I was confined to Table Rock, I'd try to up my odds by fishing the upper reaches of the James or Kings river arms, or perhaps Long Creek. Crappie thrive in stained water and around pole timber. Just like bass fishing, the more fish you're around, the more you are likely to catch.

Maybe they should take some lessons from the dock company that uses the H highway ramp at Baxter … they work well off to the side of the ramp and never bother anyone. Entitlement is the plague of the new millennium.

Good job finding a winding bite Saturday. As stated earlier, just wasn't happening for us. Had to drag, drag and drag some more to get bit. This thread is a good example of the beauty of Table Rock … three totally different ways of catching fish from the bank out to 60 feet --- all on the same day.

Donna and I got back up there yesterday around 10:30 AM and fished until 4 PM. Fished between Owl Creek and the mouth of the Kings. Had to be some of the strongest winds I've seen in nearly 20 years of fishing Table Rock. We managed 18 … a mix of LM, spots and one meanmouth … with some decent keepers but not enough of them. There was absolutely no moving bait bite for us. Had one follow a spinner bait (never a good sign) and another one to slap at it right at the boat. Threw a jerk bait some and never got a sniff on it. All of our fish were caught on a Ned and a 5/16 finesse jig. They were scattered from 5 to 35 feet deep and were caught in little bunches. If you got one bite along a little stretch, you'd usually get 4 or 5. But, you could not get bit going back over it. It was one pass and done. Everything we caught was on at least a 45-degree bank and steeper. Big rock helped. If you got anywhere near gravel, forget it.

Lots of people fish that bluff end but most that I see don’t follow it on out properly into the lake.
