  1. Just be careful with this one. Too many parents get caught up and want their kids to be the best so in turn they are the best. Sometimes that is more than the kids can do. I've seen some really good students get into trouble by trying to do much in high school. It's freaking high school, you should enjoy that. Having that college credit isn't so great if your GPA suffers because of it.
  2. A smart kid can still thrive in this environment. My oldest will graduate this December from Missouri State. It's been an eye opening experience for her but has only made her a stronger as a person. Throughout the whole process she has kept a pretty level head. She has made some wrong decisions based on what she was being taught but has learned from them. I have never tried to crush any of her ideas, never done this to any of my kids. I don't stand over them and tell them that what they are learning is wrong and how my ideas are right. But I do give them the information that they don't hear from everyone so they can make an educated decision on their own. Sometimes they see it my way and sometimes they don't. But they are their own person and have the right to make their own opinions. My only job is to make sure they have all the information from every angle when making that decision. What has developed is a very intelligent young lady. Yep she's strong headed. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that at all, even if we don't always see eye to eye. I think I would rather have a child that isn't afraid to stand up for the position she has chosen rather than one that easily accepts mine or anyone else's opinion as the truth. I think the best advice that we have given all of our kids when they are deciding their path is to find something you love and do it with all your heart. It's not about the amount of money you are going to make, it's about being in that occupation for a long time and you will be a much better person if you truly enjoy what you do. That's one thing I missed in life. I was always pushed to go and make money. Find something that pays well. Well I did that and I don't enjoy what I do. I do it. And I'm good at it. And I make some cash. But there is still something missing. So yeah you can go to be an engineer or a programmer and make some serious money. But I have quite a few friends in the programming business and see how they live. They have lots of nice stuff and no time to use it. If you live to work instead of work to live then that's fine. Some people like that and again it should be whatever makes you happy. My oldest loves to write so she's a journalism major. Yeah I know. I hear it almost every time I tell somebody what she's going to school for. But she's doing what she loves and she's really good at it. She's already done so much with it and has many opportunities in front of her. And those opportunities are not because she is a journalism major, they are there because she loves what she is doing. People see that. People hire that.
  3. I hate the commercialization of Christmas. I was in a Dollar General a couple of weeks ago and they had Christmas stuff out.I hate it.
  4. That's exactly what I thought. Obviously they haven't been on the James river on a nice summer day.
  5. STOP IT
  6. Well if you are the type of person that leaves all teachings up to the schools then you might be in trouble. I know you are not Mitch. But I also know that these are not the things that my kids are being taught in school. I don't know if people are just slow to catch on in this part of the world or are just smarter than the rest. But I don't really worry about it because I know my kids are smarter than that.
  7. You can't even make up this much stupid. http://heatst.com/culture-wars/white-people-in-canoes-yes-canoes-reek-of-cultural-appropriation-says-canadian-professor/
  8. And I will be glad when that is over. I think we have overdone the whole pumpkin spice thing.
  9. That dude has a douche knot on his head.
  10. We don't know that for sure. We just assume that because he always plays the tough guy. Just like joeD.
  11. Awe you posted a pic of your boyfriend. How cute.
  12. WE HAVE A WINNER!! That was a good quick place to hit after work.
  13. Yep. One of my favorite accesses on the James is now like this. Used to catch a ton of fish in that area, but because some can't control themselves we just close the access and make everyone suffer.
  14. For the sake of it's employees I hope it never does. His family's wealth is already secured, no sense in ruining a good thing.
  15. I have no dog in the fight but I'll be happy if the Cubs win. The sulking around the office is kind of a downer.
  16. You need to be hammered to make any sense out of all those lies.
  17. Me either really. But 8 or 9 years ago me and a boss spent a lot of time traveling for a couple of months and every place we went we tried to find the best margaritas. It was really just an excuse to drink I think but we had a lot of fun and learned what we liked best. We probably paid some outrageous prices but it was his dime so I did not care. I favor the blanco tequilas. For margaritas, for shots, it just tastes better to me. And if you get a good one they taste really good. Patron and Don Eduardo are good solid versions that you can get anywhere. If you feel the need to spend some money try KAH. It's pricey but delicious. And the bottles are cool too.
  18. Good Tequila makes all the difference.
  19. Nobody understands how a fish perceives color, Yes there are some scientific theories out there but no one truly knows except for the fish. And they aren't talking.
  20. That's a beautiful place.
  21. It's a start, or a restart. Good luck with these JD.
  22. The problem isn't with the kids. The kids follow by example. Those that lead them are the problem. They are setting bad examples. You don't have to look any further than the current elections to see where ALL of the problems of this country are coming from. And none of that is from the kids.
  23. The best thing about BPS is Springfield is their ship to store option. You shop and purchase online, which offers way more than is available in the store. Then you just go the customer service counter with your order info, they hand you the package and you walk out. No trying to slide by somebody taking a picture, no waiting for the crowd to disperse around the gators, no trying to avoid the Big Cedar sales team. Get in, get out.
