I think Dutch is asking more about the lake portion of the James River and not the river portion.

Some changes here, because of INTELLIGENCE. Nah really just jacking with Wrench. Our gathering will be much smaller. Older kids will be with their boyfriends on Thanksgiving Day. That just leaves the Queen, Princess III, and I. I think we are making pizza. Then the Queen will demand a traditional fare on Saturday when all can make it. But still a lot of them are not coming.

Total Newb With Questions
Flysmallie replied to WannabeAngler's topic in North Fork of the White River
I haven't been to fish the tailwaters at Norfork. I also haven't had a river be as hard on me as NFOW. But I'd pick NFOW over just about any other body of water for trout. That place has me. I don't know why. -
You ready to go?

I looked upriver to see where Britt was. He was about 30 yards upstream working on his gear in his boat kind of resting up against the bank. I look back down and finish tieing on my lure and take a quick glance back upstream at Britt. And he is upside down in the river!! It couldn't have been 10 seconds. He speaks from experience.

Mine flips up and down but I still like that viewfinder view.

I love shooting from the ground. You should see these kids look at me when I lie down to take pictures of them. They are probably afraid they are going to have to help my fatass back up.

I carry my camera bag everywhere. Well almost everywhere. Today for whatever reason it was not with me. I took the long way home finishing up some calls before I called it a day. Then I saw this. Well almost this. Home was close so I ran there to grab my gear. The rain clouds were moving so I wasn’t positive if there would still be light. Made it back and did the best I could to line the sun up. Which just happened to be in front of my wife’s Grandparents. 30 seconds later the sun was gone.

I had one climb me out in the backyard because the neighbors dog was after it. It was perfectly fine riding on my shirt until I got next to a tree.

Probably a Bigfoot. They are known to use squirrel guns. Kind of like a potato gun but they use squirrels.

Usually a lot of eagles down that way. Used to be a big nest above the shoals just up from Blunks. Never have caught a ton down through there but still like that stretch.

Stabilization does help tremendously. That's why I like a gimbal. I currently use a Zhiyun Smooth 4 with an iPhone 7 and get pretty good results. But I think I will upgrade to their Weebill. These are not just basic gimbals, they offer a lot more control. And as ashamed as I am to say it the iPhone does a pretty good job. But I can't zoom out far enough for my taste and zooming in loses a lot of quality. Plus autofocus and storage issues. But I do like that I can stick it in my pocket. I was hoping to keep holding out until I decide to make a plunge into mirrorless but I just spent too much on the DSLR so that's a little down the road. But I will still be able to use the Weebill for it. IBIS I understand, but I need the stabilization to be better than that. Most of the time it's a loud, dark, lots of people drinking too much, and I'm just a large guy trying to film a band while slipping through the crowd mostly unnoticed. Or at least not in anyone's way. Sometimes the lighting is spectacular, sometimes it sucks. But I do well enough that I usually can do whatever I want.

You guys need to post more pics/video. How does that GX85 work in low light?? I need to get more serious about video but it's mostly all low light situations. I've been looking at gimbals for my DSLR but the spaces I need to video can be a little tight and it would be nice not to be holding a huge camera rig.

Not a win. My paycheck comes from automobile accidents. Just kidding, but seriously it's off about 30% right now. And that does affect a lot of people's paychecks, mine included.

People blindly follow religion and then say if they were wrong then no harm was done. But when asked to follow science they decide to blindly follow the for profit politicians instead. Makes perfect sense to me.

My kid just got home from school. Seems the whole varsity cheer team is quarantined until the 13th. She’s overly happy about that. She’s a straight A student so I’m not worried. More excited about what she might create while she’s home. I’ve already heard the guitar. I don’t cause problems for businesses by not following a mandate that was placed on them. For the most part they are just trying to keep doing what they are doing without somebody being a dick about it. I’m just trying to do the same. I know, I know, the government has control over me now.

I get this a lot while traveling. You get so used to putting it on in the cities that it’s just habit to put it on before going in anywhere. These outer areas you get some looks from the “intelligent locals”. None have been ignorant enough to make a comment about it though.

That’s the fact Jack. I watched that a few weeks ago. Wasn’t the first time and it won’t be the last.

And I still love black & white.

Yeah I would flip out if I had to go to a menu to change anything anymore. I rarely get out of full manual mode and have gotten used to adjusting everything without having to take my eye away from the viewfinder. I haven't tried any of the in camera modes. I get it as right as I can and then everything goes through Lightroom.

Nice shots Ness! And cool deal on the quick upgrade. All I have been able to take shots of is people. But they do pay better than squirrels.

Do you use real tomato ketchup too Eddie?
-
Have to agree with Wrench on this one. If you have no experience in doing it then you have no way of understanding.

Just going somewhere, anywhere does it for me. I chased the tournament stuff and had a lot of fun doing it but I'd rather just go fishing now. I chased the big fish, big ego thing and had a lot of fun, but I would rather just go fishing now. Love the saltwater stuff, but I would rather walk the beach than go out on a boat most days. I've been fortunate to get to fish in a lot of different places. But anytime I'm outside I'm enjoying what I love. Nothing to prove to anyone. Nothing to prove to myself. Now I just relax and enjoy all of it.
