  1. Walter's revenge! LOL!
  2. Got tired of eating marinated goose and duck poppers, deer tenders, crappie, and wild turkey wrapped in blankets of bacon then smoked with the morels. Wanted some junk food to go with them. Dont much care for the taste of most beef and besides that, morels are like bacon, they go with anything!
  3. More comments and letters still need to be sent to the EPA before their final statement is assessed. I have posted a link under conservation issues to be able to do this though trout unlimited. Please take a minute of your time and help stop Pebble
  4. After finding over 10 pounds of morels yesterday, I decided to try my luck at filling my final turkey tag today. I got to my spot about 15 minutes before shooting time, deployed decoys out front in the edge of a field and found a nice stump back in the woods to lean against. At shooting time, the temps were still warm and muggy. Two toms started sounding off down the hill behind me. I would call and they would answer getting a little closer each time. After 20 minutes or so, they were getting close enough to think this deal was getting sealed. Not so. They got hung up behind a little bull dozed rock bank just out of sight about 40 yards away. The temps made a quick drop. A shot was fired close but not too close and the birds shut up and went away. After the temp change, the woods became absolutely quiet for close to an hour. Off to my left I heard a few putts, so I called a few times and the putts worked their way back behind me just beyond the row of bull dozed rocks. Again, no birds sighted. Another 30 minutes later, I heard putts off to the left this time heads to the field an towards my decoys. I did not call this time. They worked thier way along the edge of the field and finally into sight. I thought they were hens so I just watched them. They got about 20 yards away and I realized they all 3 had little beards sticking straight out. I did not even have my gun ready. They all moved to the right closer to the decoys and behind a brush pile allowing me to get my gun up. When they came out from behind the brush, I once again confirmed a beard and let one of the three have some number 4 hot lead injections. One of the other 2 that were left came running right at me then stopped about 5 feet away and slowly walked behind me. The other ran to the decoys and stopped. The bird I shot gave one more flop, and the bird in the decoys then came trotting right over to me. I thought he was going to run me over Turkey calling base station Decoys out in front
  5. Ha! I don't mind a morel mushroom belly ache every now and then!......LOL!
  6. This has got to be one of the best years I've ever had as far as mushroom hunting goes. Went hunting a couple of hours with a buddy this afternoon. I ended up with 325 of them and I know he had just as many. Been eating morels just about every day now for over a week. Had them with corn dogs and tater tots tonight. Think I'm gonna try and dehydrate most of this batch. I think the season is coming to a quick close here in the Branson area. Found a few that were beyond picking.
  7. Nice job Marty
  8. Thanks Buzz. Hope you win the trip!
  9. Trout Unlimited and Crystal Creek Lodge in South Western Alaska are asking for our help in protecting the largest wild salmon runs in the world from the possibility of being destroyed by one of the largest proposed open pit mines ever, Pebble Mine. Trout Unlimited has drawn up a formatted letter addressing the situation to the EPA. Simply by sending this letter in the link that follows and sharing with a friend you will automatically be entered into a drawing for a 4 day fishing trip of a lifetime for two at Crystal Creek Lodge. (this just so happens to be the lodge where MonaChari and I spend our summers working) Please get involved. Help put a stop to Pebble Mine and come visit us in Alaska for a fishing trip of a lifetime! Comment Now to the EPA to Protect Bristol Bay, Alaska's Priceless Watershed, and Tell a Friend to be entered to win a dream trip to Bristol Bay
  10. Somebody on the forum posted a video a few months back on fishing a weedless jig for crappie. The jig seemed to work great in the video. I would love to get ahold of some of these jig heads for fishing the brush piles. Anyone remember the name of them and where they can be purchased? They had a little "V" coming off the jig head instead of a single wire for a weed guard.
  11. I caught most of mine on Bobby Garlands (I think they are called monkey milk) and the swimming minnows that are pearl grey bellies and light bluish backs. Had a fun time and it was a nice break from packing for Alaska.
  12. Last Wednesday I sat up at the edge of a field with decoys out in the field about 15 yards from me. At day break three birds were gobbling 50 or 60 yards behind me in the woods while still on the roost. They hung in the roost long enough for an old boss hen to come in close enough to call them out of the tree. This was the most vocal hen I have ever heard in the woods. She would bellow out 30 and 40 yelps in a row on her lost hen calls. I had a hard time even getting a word in edgewise trying to compete with her. Needless to say, she won out and took the toms down the hill to where I could hear at least two other birds gobbling. I was debating on getting up and moving or just sticking it out there for a while. After tossing that idea around I for a bit, I noticed two of the toms sounded like they were headed back up the hill. I started calling to them every few minutes. Every time they answered they sounded just a bit closer. After 15 or 20 minutes of working them they sounded like they were on the edge of the field. I could not see in that direction due to the brush pile I was using to conceal my position. I got my gun up and ready and gave two more yelps and waited. With in a couple of minutes I saw blue heads behind the brush. They had spotted the decoys and were moving in on them. There were three of them. They would gobble, fluff up and strut then take a few more steps toward the decoys and repeat. All three were Jakes with 3-4 inch beards sticking out. When they cleared the brush I picked the closest one, took the safety off and pulled the trigger. Fun hunt and first bird I've ever shot using decoys in a field. Today, I wove a blanket made of bacon and wrapped the breast of this young Jake in this finely crafted blanket then placed in the smoker for 5 hours.
  13. You using a a granny slip knot to tie on your jigs?
  14. I have caught rainbows in Alaska on K-16 Kwickfish, Mag Warts and #5 Tee Spoons while trolling for Kings. The K-16's are some big hardware.
  15. OK....we even now????? LOL!
  16. You were killing me yesterday and today. I was on a bird mission with my dad on Stockton today and TR yesterday. Big goose eggs on birds and fish
  17. Glad you guys found some. Eating the last of ours tonight.
  18. Fished around the Long Bend area. Dirty water. 6 to 12 inches of clarity. Only caught 1 keeper crappie. Talked to a few others that were fairing about the same. Found some clearer water down in a cove past point 14 but no bite. Maybe tomorrow will be better.
