The water on Lake Taneycomo was projected to be off by 10 pm last night. I started calling the current generation hot line at 9 pm. and they were generating one unit with the lake level at 904.8. 9:07 pm, still one unit and 904.8. 9:15 pm....Zero Generation! I was out the door by 9:26 and pulling in the pavillion parking lot just before 10. There were three other vehicles in the lot and the water appeared to have already dropped all the way out. I headed to the flats between outlets one and two. The moon was bright and fog was just starting to lift off the water. It was a bright night so I started with a white mink sculpin. For the first drift, I layed 60 feet of line out. Just as soon as the fly hit the water, I felt a tug, and it was "Fish On!". First fish of the night was a 12 inch silver bullet. I made six or seven more casts and only got one more short strike. I started changing things up and switched to an olive minnow pattern picking up a few more fish, but eventually found that anything black about 1 1/2 inches long wether it was a minnow pattern, pine squirrel sculpin, or mohair leech worked the best. I had to use small little 2 inch strips just as soon as the fly hit the water, and strip it non stop the whole way back in. Fished till 1 am and ended up bringing 18 fish to hand. Most were in the 12 to 16 inch range with four of them being exceptional fish. I had plenty of LDR's (Long Distance Releases) last night along with to many to count short strikes. It was a beautiful night to be on the water!

My MonaChari (DD'sMC) and I got together with Russ (Night Hawk) for some fishing today on Upper Lake Taneycomo while the water was off. We met Russ around 10 in the morning by the big log at the flats between outlet one and two. My MonaChari and I were fishing with white chamois worms and Russ was throwing midges. It was non-stop action for the three of us three hours straight. We had several doubles and multiple triple hook ups. We landed well over 100 fish between the three of us. I managed to get 6 small browns and My MonaChari got 2. Most fish were in the 12 to 14 inch range with the largest being 17 inches. Had a great day got lots of sun, and enjoyed the great company. Think I might have to go do it again tomorrow!

Flipped the chamois worm in and let is sink to the bottom. Let is sit for a second or two, then two small tugs, just enough to get it to tumble across the bottom an inch or two. Fish would come right over and pick it up.

We saw some decent ones in the flats between one and two and the rebar hole and new "tree hole" hold some good fish too. Water supposed to be off tonight.....come on down....I will be out there!

It was a great day to be out fishing after the rains yesterday. A buddy of mine and I wade fished the upper end from 1 p.m to 4:30 p.m. and did very well. We started between outlets 2 and 3 picking up fish within the first couple of casts on white chamois worms with 7x tippet. Just sight fished them with no indicator and the smallest split shot you could get on the tippet. From there, I headed to the back side of the island and fished the dead stagnant water behind it. Picked up 6 bows in there, then we went to the flats between outlet 1 and 2. The water was a little too deep and choppy to sight fish there, so we put indicators on and it was non stop fish on till the water came on. We caught several more as the water rose and pushed us to the bank. After the water came all the way up, fishing spots were harder to find and we called it quits. We never changed flies the whole time.

Hard to imagine a freezer full of carp. Think I'd rather fill mine with crappie -
Caught a 3 lb LM in Aunts Creek this morning. She was soooo fat with eggs, I thought she was gonna pop.

I forgot about that one. Definately dont leave the fruit on the dash of your car, if you do bring some with you!!!!!!!

We had an encounter with the "Naga's" and an "Ozark Howler" on the James River a couple of weeks ago on a midnight float under the full moon just a few miles below Galena. In those parts on certain nights when the moon is right, there's things that crawl, and things that fly, and things that creep around on the ground. In the distance, I could hear three grown men scream, and one old man laugh. It was a bone chilling, hair raising experience, but nothing compared to the "Giant Squid" run ins that some of us on here have experienced fishing late at night on Lake Taneycomo.

I caught 10 yesterday in the shallows on a whacky worm with 3 of them being keepers up in the back of Cow Creek. Was looking for turkeys and killing the time with a little fishing along the way. That's a long way to paddle a canoe, in and out of every finger of Cow Creek.

White River Fishing Trip Report, Tuesday, April 18
duckydoty replied to Phil Lilley's topic in White River
Great report Phil. We had a great time! I think I still have caddis crawling out of my ears. -
Happy early birthday to you Gatorjet! Hope you get to do some fishing on Wed. and enjoy that well earned, free fishing!

I think in the Mississippi River there is either no lenght limit or a 12 inch length limit. Been a long time since if fished for them below the locks and dams, so I'm not 100% sure on that.

Those look like sows with eggs? Spawn not over yet......cool

Good read Scott. Much of this same info can be applied to fishing for the smolting rainbows in Alaska. I too have seen the birds diving, fish crashing and other boaters running and gunning right into the middle of it, just to put a quick end to the fun for everyone.

Dang Bill....Rough week. We finally started getting a pattern again on the crappie yesterday. Just as we started making progress, had to head in. Getcha some of them slicks!
