  1. Yes I have eaten gar. Very firm white meat that is mild in flavor. Its really hard to get out of the wrapper though
  2. Did you fish this morning or afternoon. Pretty good hatch going this morning on the Lower Wire Rd Access. Sulpher and blue dunns coming off about 14's and 16's. Picked up a few waiting for them to shut the water off at Taney.
  3. Started the day fishing Crane Creek. Caught a few on drys. After DDsMC made an awesome salad, we headed to Taney for some sight fishing. The Rainbows were really colorful today. Caught most on the old faithful white chamois worm. Caught quite a surprise on it with 7x tipet...a 3ft. Needlenose gar. Decided to throw my new fish skull fly, green and white, great response by the bows! After dinner,I'll be headin back down to Taney for some birthday strippin!
  4. Gotta love the fishing reports on there.
  5. Ok, now let's compare it to crack. I'll let you try the first time for free to get you hooked. Come fish with me....That will seal the deal
  6. To me, they are kinda like Frank's Hot Sauce...I'm putting that stuff on everything
  7. I've been cranking them out lately. Been fishing them on Taney and doing real good. I started tying them for a pattern I use in Alaska, but thought I'd go ahead and try them on Taney. The have produced well during the day and at night. I am now tying them in white bass colors. They are expensive compared to dumbell eyes or coneheads, but I do really like them. One more note, Leonard and I have discovered that after heavy fishing the heads will pop off if you just glue them on. You need to go ahead and put another whip finish knot in front of the fish skull to keep it locked down on the hook.
  8. I like fishing with Russ. You should have had him low crawling to the holes with that 10 ft rod. Would have love to seen that. I asked him what he was gonna do with that rod there.
  9. Bps outfits are a cheaper way to get into fly fishing and will do the job. A good dvd or video on casting will help alot on different casting techniques. A book might even help some. Best way to learn is get an idea of what is expected and how to achieve that goal through techniques, then get out and practice, practice, practice. Are you sure you want to get into this............There is no turning back once you start....
  10. Sorry, I did not read all of your post. On line places can be a little cheaper but after shipping not really. Of course BPS, Cabellas, and everything else is online, but the prices are the same. Orvis.com is the same way if not more. Jstockard.com is another good one. And you can try JansNetCraft.com
  11. Lilley's Landing carries alot of stuff. Anglers and Archery has some along with River Run Outfitters and Bass Pro at the Landing. If you want something and cant find it, Phill has always offered to order it for me. Those are the 4 places closest to you. Tim's Fly shop at Roaring River has a great selection and Back Country Outfitters in Springfield is another place to go. Plenty of places in this area to get stuff
  12. Thanks for trying the fly out Leonard. It was fun to fish with you again. I'm glad you posted the picture with your eyes open. I dont want people thinking we are participating in any other extra curricular activities out there.
  13. Dang! I was thinking about that all day
  14. They are lolly pops for sure. I've been tying them on TMC 9395's which is a 4 times long hook size 6 and 8. The small fish skulls work good for that size.
  15. That is awesome Ralph. You sure had a great Catch and Release Season at Roaring River this year.
  16. I got a couple of action shots of Phil and a picture of the minnow flies. The green and white worked the best for me. Picked up a few on the grey and white. Like I said earlier.....cant wait to try them at night and on the white bass.
  17. Ralph, No I did not get out in the snow yesterday. How did you end up doing?
  18. Well of course I did. I was actually testing two different flies today. The worm and a minnow pattern that I have been tying for Alaska. The minnow is fun! Can't wait to try it at night
  19. I lost it on the big one. I'm gonna have to go buy some from Tim.
  20. DD'sMC and I headed to Roaring River today. Figured the weather would be better today than tomorrow. It was frigid this morning so we took our time heading out the door to give the sun a chance to warm things up a little. We even decided to stop at Tim's Fly Shop before fishing this time instead of after. That was a good move on our part. It seems Tim has come up with a new fly that he and some others have been doing real well with the super pigs on the river. He gave me a sample to try and report back what I thought. Well, I was impressed. The smaller fish were fighting over it. Almost every big fish I saw and threw it to at least came up and gave it a look. Several big fish nosed it more than once. Lost 3 monsters with it and did manage to land one about 4 pounds on it. You guys want to have a chance at some of the big boys down there, you need to stop by Tim's Fly Shop and pick up a couple of these flies. They are a worm fly, but the action is better than any chamois or san juan that I have ever tried. Thanks for the awesome day Tim! See ya down there in the morning.
  21. I've been seeing the snows heading north all day long. Huge flocks of them. We even heard them last night around midnight.
  22. Awesome Buzz! I spent the whole day doing nothing but tying flies.after my last couple of trips, I realized I needed a few more flies to fish some of these places around here
  23. I'd like to break the 40 inch mark on a Naknek bow this year. Other than that, spend as much time, day and night, snow, rain, sleet, thunderstorms, lightning and sunshine on the water as humanly possible....minus duck season of course.
  24. I think this forum needs more fishing reports. It's a fishing forum, not a spelling bee
