  1. I have never really understood the deep aversion people have about snakes. This whole notion of killing every snake you run across is ridiculous. Just leave it alone.
  2. Al, you nailed the spot where I caught the 17.5" fish. About one cast below the Hwy 8 bridge on the right side. That fish absolutely crushed my crank bait and then shot about 2 feet out of the water. Awesome fighting fish. I love to see an acrobatic fish. I know they can shake free but the jumps are beautiful at times.

    Holiday Float

Really? I think it is more a demographic thing than a Geographic one.
  4. Bingo, you da man. Completely agree on the Methwood (Leadwood) access, I was very concerned at the takeout. I was already looking at the next access up for a float, looks like about 6 miles. Just trying new water and doing a little exploring. Gotta love having phones with GPS to give you an idea of how far you have gone, makes the float more enjoyable to not be playing the "Where are we?" guessing game. We had to do an hour of hard paddling at the end of the day because we goofed off so much enjoying the day. You know that "holy crap" feeling when you suddenly realize you have 3-4 miles ahead and it's getting late. I never want to be at that Leadwood access after dark. Yikes!
  5. Smalliebigs. Nope and nope. Getting close though. Right river and general location. we tried to get access at Coles landing and were turned down by the property owner. Nice enough guy but had been burned too many times by folks trashing up his place. We did run into the standard contingent of locals at our takeout spot. Lot's of tattoos and missing teeth in that crowd.
  6. I caught all of my fish that day on a small shallow running crank bait in a light gray shad color. I traditionally use a fluke pretty hard and stick with it but it just wouldn't produce yesterday. We caught Smallies, Spots, Largemouth, and a few annoying sunfish that were about the size of the crank bait at times. I think the sunnies were aggressively defending their nests because they were really colorful in spawning colors. Here's another shot at our start of our day at the access (JoeD in the picture). Not much to go on and really annoying that the locals trash the access with beer cans and fireworks.
  7. Hit a new river section yesterday. Anyone care to guess where it's at? Interesting stretch of river and fishing was just mediocre at best. Not sure if it is typically like that since this was my first time through. Habitat looked pretty good. Caught a handful of fish and one 17.5". I did think this was an interesting rock. Wish I would of gotten a shot from upstream, the overhang was quite prominent. Even with the warm day and slow fishing it was good to be out on the water with a good friend.
  8. Are you wanting a bass jig rod or one for trout? Lake or stream? Provide some details on exactly how you like to fish and I bet the experts on here will give you a lot of info and opinions.
  9. I agree with the other divers here, they have nailed the issues pretty well. Definitely not a sport for someone who panics easily. I am certified and have no desire to go into murky water, I want to clearly see where I am. I think I will keep my recreational diving to the crystal clear water of the Caribbean. As we all know the water is a dangerous playground and deserves our utmost respect, and even then things happen that we did not anticipate. Very sad what happened to this lady.
  10. Nice fish. Well played.
  11. Thanks for the report update. Looks like a great time. There's a lot to be said for those annual trips with good friends. I have floated in front of BRL many times and never realized it was so nice. It's kind of inconspicuous from the river side.
  12. 63" of trout in one day!!! More info please.
  13. Very nice. Like the foggy background.
  14. Their website says $1,200 on the FAQ page. Maybe even cheaper since they are new and looking for customers.
  15. Bumper boats for fisherman.

    World Cup

Gotta admit I'm a fair weather fan. If the USA goes deep into the cup I will be flag waving.

    World Cup

    Not soon enough!
  18. Nice fish!
  19. I'm a certified diver but…ummm no thank you. I always want to be the apex predator. I had a Bull Shark and a Hammerhead Shark eat a 150lb Tarpon at boat side a few years ago. Very impressive…and a little scary.
  20. Love the jump. I think I would almost rather lose an acrobatic fish than land a deep fighter. I figure once I've hooked a fish and got a few good jumps out of it, it's almost as good as landing it…the fish has done me a favor of an easy release. Most of us seem to remember those fights more than any other. The bulge of the water as the fish breaks the surface, head shaking and casting droplets of water that glisten in the sunlight. Cartwheeling, side splashing, tail walking across the pool. Mmmmm…. I think I need a moment here. Too many memories. Man I need to fish more!!!
  21. How about Merc? I also like the booze names. Yaeger, Seagram, etc.
  22. Nicely done. The water looks great to me too. The weather was beautiful yesterday.
  23. This could of easily been avoided with a Type I life jacket. I can understand not securing a person onboard in the event of capsizing a boat. But tying their hands without enough floatation is inexcusable. The water patrol needs to change their floatation standards.
  24. Nice. We'll done. I need to get out.
  25. That's a HUGE gill. Well done!
