  1. Been listening to Royals fans cry about how much they will miss Finnegan? Honestly, what did he ever do to to actually make fans miss him? I agree with you, your in the race, need to fill a hole, so you jump on the chance. No looking back either- no matter what happens, they improved the team and put theirselves in position to continue to win. Congrats to management, nice to see such a big move.
  2. So, are you saying the population increase has negatively impacted the fishing? Whew,I totally agree, but was almost sure it was because somebody posted a trip report on the internet somewhere. Especially a report that identified an already popular spot on a river. The balls of some people these days to do such a thing.
  3. Honestly have never bothered me. I look at them somewhat similar to a sand castle. They're made from natural materials. Don't like them, push them over. Would much rather see these than bluffs spray painted.
  4. Sorry to hijack your thread, but those pics peaked my curiosity- Let's say hypothetically you were in a canoe not paying attention. Only to look up 200 yds before you got to that bridge. Water is too fast to stop your forward movent, so you know you would be headed straight for it. What would you do? I think I would bail out of the canoe, and try my best to go underwater and swim underneath it. But what if you had a lifejacket on? That most certainly would not be an option.
  5. Have you checked the water levels there- if the gauges I am looking at are accurate, not a snowball's chance in hell would I be on that river. The level upstream at Buck Hollow is currently 4' above flood stage, a smooth 12,600 CFS and the water only goes downstream from there. Not even realistic to think you will be on it tomorrow, or this weekend.
  6. In my experience, anytime I post big sale on CL I have had a crowd. When I sold my last house, I took pics of stuff in my basement, posted that with a list of big items. It simply stated- $1000 for everything for first person to show up with a trailer and help. Within 2 hours, all my crap was gone and I didn't lift a finger. Sold it all in one attempt.
  7. This thread now officially has me concerned there is nobody on this site under the age of 40, er 50,lol! 8:30-9:30 is pretty normal here. I like to get home from work, 5:45-6:30... unwind, ie: drink a few beers, go for a walk, work in the yard, watch some tv. Then get to eating. Rare that all takes place before 8. I should also admit, days when I get to take a lunch it is not usually until 1:30-2:30. So that is a factor in what time dinner happens.
  8. Pretty cool!

    Report 6/28

If I were to fish any river at night, most definitely would pick the Elk. Are you wading or hopping around from section to section on a canoe?

    Report 6/28

Thanks for the report- how are Russ and Jean Ann at Hog Heaven, havent seen them in a long time? Yeah, you could honestly almost do that section blindfolded. Just cannot imagine where the danger is- are you talking about when you get past all the chunk rock and the river makes a hard left?
  11. Open canoe would be fine from Ponca down as long as water levels are decent. If you feel the need you could look into airbags, but they just take up all the space you gained by using a canoe.
  12. Heads up- river immediately below Blue Spring is completely blocked by a sycamore tree and about mile above Lead Mine has anothe tree blocking the entire river. Other than that, the river was almost flowing too fast to fish from our boats. With that, it forced us to fish from the banks more than normal. Which is unusual for us as we are the types that like to cover ground while fishing. This forced us to slow down and spend more time in each area. Fishing all weekend was a little slow for us, but we caught them on all lures. A countdown Rapala produced the best results for me. Great weekend, rode out a few storms but was happy to not be working.
  13. Just a thought, it's a little extreme but here goes; maybe next time you run into one of those guides mentioned above you could try talking to them and share your concerns.
  14. X2 with Terrieman, got the 15 MR Legend- agree with his evaluation totally. If the Camper is anything like the Legend it would be perfect for solo use and OK tandem. I use mine 95% of the time solo and only go on a trips a minimum of 2 nights and 3 days. When tandem, you do have to be careful if you are both fishing, but it fits everything I need. Shallow draft, light, versatile and easy to load. I could probably get by with a 17 foot, but for my use it would just be too much.
  15. Perfect! Thanks for your post
  16. I'm most definitely a STL fan, but cant say Shannon is my favorite. If the Royals could just have Matthews do tv it would be more enjoyable. Rex was a great sideshow when the team wasnt very good. If you want to listen to the real deal- catch a game where Vin Scully is on. That guy right there can call a ball game. No silly antics or phrases- just calls it as it is.
  17. And the worst part of the weekend series- having to listen to Rex Hudler ruin the games with his horrible commentary. Good series though- both teams with a dominant win and a close one in the middle. Looking forward to seeing them in STL.

    Drowning

That Big Sugar for the most part is bad news for inexperienced paddlers, especially when the water is up. It's a really fun stretch that I enjoy, just wished I could float it more. I think you're right though, I honestly don't think for the most part people have a true understanding of just how dangerous it can be. When I was telling my wife about this, her comment was "what you don't know, you don't know"
  19. Busch tall boys, gotta love it! Don't see many Busch beer drinkers here in the KC area.

    Drowning

After being on that river on a busy weekend, or on most ozark streams, I'm amazed we don't here about more of these happening. I wonder if it's simply because there are always enough people around to help in a situation like this?

    Drowning

Just read a boy drowned there yesterday 3 miles west of Pineville. Pretty sad really, got pinned under a log. Second one in a few weeks, a lady on the James got pinned as well. Be careful out there, things can go south fast.
  22. That is pretty cool, no doubt
  23. That's the best part of the Elk, it's upper tribs... I really enjoy the Big Sugar section fron Cyclone to the Elk. I haven't floated there in a few years though, while I enjoy the river I just needed some solitude away from all the people and cabins and beer cans and toilet paper and loud music....
  24. X3 on Jeff Trigg, had a great experience with him
  25. I would return it as well- that right there is not acceptable.
