  1. In response to Fw's comment, I have always had the highest regard for our mdc and have witnessed huge improvements to the hunting and fishing that I remember growing up. "BUT", I truly believe they have dropped the ball and lost all control over bssp. Montauk and roaring have maintained their level of quality over the years, and taney has been on fast forward. Bssp continues to excelerate towards self destruct, and it is sad indeed to see this all transpire in the past ten years. In answer to dennis, I would guess they still use the same tried and true process.
  2. very nice bbt thank you for doing this. It brings back memories seeing what the parks and taney looked like 30 years ago.
  3. Welcome bbt, and thanks for the report. Nothing we like better than a fishing report. I am sure conditions were tuff so you did okay on your outing. you mentioned that you fish those creeks around neosho, several oaf members live and fish nearby. You may have already met up wtih some.
  4. 660.8 is the current lake level. Another .2 and it will be over the neighbors seawall and ramp and into the yard. Tons of more rain coming tonight and into tommorrow for loz and 50 miles south.
  5. Just watched the weather at noon, rain to to the south tonight, but a possibilty of 6 more inches for thursday night into friday for loz, waynesville, and rolla area. I can recall when the west bound lane was closed down in 08. Loz is bank full with flood gates and gasconade at record levels dumping into the missouri river downstream of jeff city. Not looking good.
  6. this will be another ben johns incident. i kept the shotgun loaded last night
  7. My father was born and raised on the big niangua river around what is now sunny slope, and directly across from gunther mill. Gunther mill is now ha ha tonka state park. He taught me to fish and hunt and respect the outdoors and every thing it had to offer. Dad loved to fly fish and passed that on to me. Thanks Dad.
  8. Well Jeff thanks for the second report. Harv did get to fish a couple of weeks prior and had a great trip. Keep in mind he had not fished since mid 80;s. Like the bike you never quite forget, your flies just get stale. Went to an auction in lebanon yesterday and rain lasted most of the day. According to oneshot, bssp is above the wooden bridge. I figured you guys might be in for some higher water than you actually got. Glad to hear they finally are completing the memorial bench. Once witnessed a canoe at the rock hole in bssp. I think these two were innocent, they appeared to be one sandwich shy of a happy meal.
  9. they must have been warning the people to get out and escape to a better fishing park.
  10. dont be so quick to discredit the lowly scud or sowbug. On an annual basis, most of the larger fly rod caught fish, are fooled using these imitators. And do not be mislead by what you see happening on a day to day basis in the outlets. Not all big fish are spoonbilled and drug up on the rocks.
  11. Wow, congrats to todd. I hope that he pointed the fish upstream so as it will end up on the upper end.
  12. Wayne says normal, but the truth is that bssp has no t been normal for years. It has become the proving grounds for everything that you could possibly do wrong with an artificial trout stream. Once upon a time someone from mdc or dnr concluded that they could improve and maintain the stream better than mother nature. They brought in the dredging tools and proceeded to dig deep holes. I suppose in their wisdom they visioned deep holes full of trout. What they got was deep holes filling up with moss like never had been seen before. Moss that totally encapsulated all aquatic life that needed gravel and stone. So now we have deep holes with mostly moss. They then allowed their consigners to dictate what is and should be the law of the park. To cater to out of staters with huge campaigns and allow the bread and butter for most of the local business people to slip off and attend other trout parks. And during all this improvement they totally forgot how to raise fish and stock a stream. Bitter? You bet. You can take all the MIke Mitchels and Jim Rodgers creek dredgers and hang them out to dry. Hopefully when they retire, things will once again be "normal".
  13. not even close to being as effective as cedar brush, but they are simple and easy and will hold a few fish in a year or two. My cedar outfishes the pvc 10 to one, located on the same dock in the same depth of water.
  14. As always Chief, very cool pics. Back in the 70's we were excavating near bothwell college at the edge of the prairie land around sedalia. Turned out 3 maybe 4 one moring. Did not know of a prairie crawdad until you posted this. Thanks for the info.
  15. thanks for the report cp, hope to make it down this fall.
  16. A big crappie for loz, congrats
  17. Our very own OAF member, Michael Kyle, has just recieved notification verifying his "second" line class world record. A white bass, that he caught this spring, has been awarded the number one spot in the 1kg category. That is 7x, or 2lb tippet. He currently now holds the 1kg and the 4kg top spots with the international game fish association. Not one, but two fly rod world records. I have known Michael for several years, and I can tell you that these records were hard earned and well deserved. Congratulations to my good friend, Michael Kyle.
  18. I think yesterday was the day that "Harv" was going to fish montauk. Waiting for a report from him or anyone else that has fished it recently.
  19. you got that right Murdoc, how you been?
  20. If you see no trout, you can eliminate that stretch of water.
  21. When looking for productive water for trout, it is amazingly easy. You look for trout .
  22. This used to be an informative and fun web site, Now its all about "let me be the first to point out why you should not". People use to talk about fishing and joke around, but now I'm fearful to make a comment or post a picture.
  23. Glad to see you on here Harv. You will find a wealth of knowledge from this web site. Good luck on your trip to montauk, I doubt seriously that you have forgotten much. The old stuff still works. Idylwild and Jeff Tief are montauk regulars, whatever they say, you can take to the bank. Take care buddy, good to hear from you.
  24. Thanks Leonard, I had lost touch with him after he moved to oklahoma. I knew his health was not good. I will consider myself one of the lucky ones as well, Dick was one of the best. I once witnessed Dick catch a brook trout at number two outlet. Yep I didn't stutter, a brook trout. No one knows where it came from. We lost another true master of the sport, I am honored to have known him.
