  1. All this record talk makes me want to go fish. I think I will wander down to the dock and attempt to catch the "new" state record, Logperch. Wish me luck.
  2. With the invent of floating food, it is a common occurance in areas where the hatchery discharge returns to the main stream. Case in point would be bssp and tcomo. It is a food they are use to and easy pickins. Just like gut feeders in the parks who allow fish to be cleaned in the stream or lake or pond. A fly you do not want to leave home without.
  3. something that big could never be ugly
  4. Man oh man, I could only dream of a fish like that. What is amazing is the fact that it is 2 inches shorter than the fish I caught, but 14.5 lbs heavier. Holy cow, congrats congrats congrats.
  5. Wayne talked about the fantastic snagging and walleye fishing prior to truman dam. Without looking on the internet, does anyone recall the name prior to being changed to truman?
  6. wow!! a dandy for the long rod
  7. Lovely spring weather for sure. Caught good crappie at loz on friday, caughtvery few on saturday. Neighbor caught 9, I caught zero. Last trip for him by golly.
  8. The neighbor came by about 10:30, so I sent him on to the dock while I finished a quick honey do. Grabbed the long rod and headed to the dock about 30 minutes later. He had already caught 9 good fish. It was like someone had turned a switch off. We fished another 2 hrs and caught one small dink. I tried again about 3:00, fished an hour and a half, no bites, no seagulls, no shad, no fish. About seven this am it started snowing hard. Lots of accumulation already. At this rate it will be a$$ deep to a tall indian by noon. No offense meant Chief. The snow is heavy and hanging on trees and power lines, with the wind I am concerned about power outages. If bHowe is on the lake today, his boat will fill with snow in short order. Everyone be safe if you are out and about.
  9. A blindfold on while she is trying to find the dock might help.
  10. Hi Duane, ifn they start to bite, you and Micheal need to come on down. You can bring that girl along provided that she doesnt outfish us again.
  11. good report. looks like big island in the background. A neighboor and I each caught a limit in about a 4 hr time period yesterday. We fished the dock, water is 18, and we caught everything at 11 and 12. Going to try the long rod today prior to the next big snow event that is rolling in tonight. The shad and seagulls were out in force yesterday afternoon. I would suspect the big blues would be close behind. Wood ducks are starting to nest, and the crappie are bulging with eggs. Don't have a clue as what the water temps are, but I would suspect "cold". Seems to be progressing into a normal spring routine, unlike last year.
  12. Wow. That was incredible.
  13. Glad to hear this, I can recall the big roundup from table rock lake several years back. Not near as big as this one though. I think the table rock poachers were using a gill net in the upper lake. As I recall, they just ripped open the fish to remove the eggs, and let the carcass sink. A similar punishment should be administered to the poachers.
  14. JBrant, I am located at the five MM on the big niangua. How right you are FW. The wife and I were on the dock when a huge long boat came by and crashed waves against the dock and sea wall. Waves were so big that we got the return wave after it hits the seawall. I told Sandy, I would really like to have a boat like that. She says why, have you lost your stinkin mind. I says, I want it so I could sell it and replace my broken down seawall. No eco slump for the long boaters.
  15. By the looks of the boat traffic on friday, you would have thought it was a holiday weekend at loz. With the nice weather, people were de winterizing their boats and headed out for a cruise. LOts and lots of pontooners, long boaters, and even a few idiots out for a stroll in their 6o foot offshore,"inshore", racers. Add the spoonbillers ,who no doubt got beat to death from the waves, and the on going FLW tourney boys, it sure made for a busy day on the lake. More tourneys scheduled for the next 2 days will no doubt help the local business people recover from a long hard winter.
  16. Well Jack you have come to the right place. I could never cast a fly rod the conventional way, but I am an expert in the roll, flip, flop and slam cast. On short line like you speak of, the flip cast is the way to go. A gentle presentation with pin point accuracy. With the short line flowing downstream, hold your rod waist high on the downstream side. Form the letter "c" starting at waist high and ending your forward motion the same level as your ear. It is a sidearm flip so to speak.
