  1. I think smallmouth descended from the char and salmon that were native to the ozark highlands 25 thousand years ago.
  2. Seems as if most new records are caught during the spawn activity period. Maybe the old records were caught during that time period as well. Some always look down their nose when people fish spawning bass or trout, but think nothing of going out and killing several limits of spawning crappie, white bass, and walleye. Maybe it doesn't really matter that people fish for spawners because record fish continue to be caught. Congrats to all of the new record holders.
  3. A simple roll cast works best for me, especially in the wind.
  4. Great catch and some real good eating.
  5. I read that in the magazine article. says the world record is 15lb.
  6. I had never heard of a saugeye before, but the arkansas wildlife mag is showing a picture of the new state record at 9lb.
  7. Interesting Chief, I will check into that myself. If all this hype only pertains to parks, then I have a pair of vibs for sale.
  8. Just about everything you need to look for has been mentioned, but I would like to stress the fact that "drag" is the most important part of the reel. I prefer disc because it is easy to fine tune for each tippet size. A big fish will test your skills to the limit, without a quality drag, chances are you won't land him.
  9. Very good JD, thanks for an honest to goodness fishing report.
  10. what ever happened to maribo road runners?
  11. You keep referring to "we". Does that mean "you" are a part of mdc or dnr? Because "we" as the average sportsman would not be funding multi thousands of dollars projects just to import exotics to our home waters. I don't see that "we" have alot of control or say so about what mdc or dnr would or would not do. So don't go blaming the average "we" for what "you" might be part of.
  12. Would love to see triploid rainbows and seaforellen browns in taney.
  13. I wish we had trees like that at loz.
  14. Sounds good. I see everyone at taney fishing the midge's, but I just keep on doing what I know how to do, which is sowbugs and sight fishing. Good luck to you this weekend.
  15. Howdy NoLuck. What's a midge? No I didn't try, all I did was sight fish and look for a decent fish. You should have good success with that in this high water. Give a report before you head back to work.
  16. I think we hold the world record for largest number of longboats.
  17. Ouch! Hope you mend quick.
  18. Fished bssp today. Water is still high and somewhat off color. Visibility is about 2 feet. Caught several from 8 to 12 inchers, the usual, but I was bored with catching crappie at loz. The creek does not seem to have an over abundance of fish.
  19. I have caught them on #12 grey sowbugs suspended under an indicator.
  20. Hey, don't be talking bad about our lake.
  21. Best of luck Leonard, hope to see you back on the creek this fall.
  22. I have done worse. Keep posting your reports.
  23. I heard of one almost 4.5 caught last week.
  24. Update on crappie. This morning I caught some females that I know just moved in overnight. I fished the same area last night around 5:30 and only caught males. They are still in that 2 to 5 foot range and close to any brush or sticks on the bottom. Also caught a nice channel cat on the long rod, about 3 pounds. The channel looked to be a male and probably staging as well. I am catching these fish at the 5mm on the big niangua.
  25. The lake has come up about 3 feet with the past rain event. You at least have some water up in your area. As of this week the male crappie are staging on the big niangua. With water color stained, I am catching the males in 2 to 5 feet of water, no females as of yet on yesterday. The water will be clearing this week, so expect to find the crappie that are just moving in to be deeper with the clearer water.
