Drive Manufacturer Who Actually Builds the Drives Bombardier/OMC Johnson and Evinrude Under both builders, from the powerhead down, the major differences in Johnson and Evinrude are the cowls and paint color. Until 2006, Suzuki manufactured the Johnson four strokes up to 225 HP. For 2006 Suzuki only makes the Johnson four strokes up through 30 HP, Evinrude produces direct injected two strokes (E-Tec) 40 HP and above. Nissan Nissan outboards are built by Tohatsu Honda Long ago, some Honda three cylinder powerheads were mounted on Mercury drive legs and props. For the last several years, Honda has built its full line of outboards. Mercury Marine 2006 model Mercury four strokes from 2.5 through 30 HP are built by Tohatsu. Before Yamaha entered the U.S. market, Mercury's Mariner line was built by Yamaha. Last year (2005), Mercury four stroke powerheads from 25 through 225 HP (except the Verados) were built by Yamaha. Several of those models used Mercury drive legs, electronics and EFI systems (replacing carbs Yamaha used in similar sized engines). In 2006 models, Mercury four stroke powerheads from 40 to 225 HP (except the Verados) are built by Yamaha. Mercury's agreement with Yamaha ended in March 2006, at which time Mercury is expected to phase in more four cylinders (75 to 115 HP) based on the Verado engine block, but without supercharging or intercooling.

Had a good wart and grub bite yesterday. Fish were on the windy 45 deg banks. tons of short fish mixed with an ocasional keeper. Biggest was a 4 pound black. Had a 18 in smallie that would have weighed 2 1/2 pounds tops He should have been in the mid 3 - 4 pound range Did notice all the fish we caught were on the skinny side. Guess they just havent fattened up for the winter yet. 95 % of all the fish were blacks with the other 5% smallie. Dont believe we had a KY all day ( strange). Fished fom the powerline on the Suns creek arm to the mouth of Birch Branch. Had the lake to ourself yesterday with only one other boat that used Ruark. Did I mention wind? Geez, Bet it was 15- 25 and two to three foot rollers. Good Times!

Found this article, looks like if ethanol is higher then the gas station can have just straight gas if it wants. Still no labeling at the pumps so the consumer can see what he is getting. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP)--Missouri mandates that gas stations sell ethanol-blended fuel whenever it costs no more than regular gasoline. But the state has no means of ensuring that Missouri's roughly 4,000 gas stations are following the law on a day-by-day basis. Instead, compliance is left largely to the pressures of the marketplace. So far, state regulators say, that seems to be working fine. Missouri's unusual ethanol requirement began Jan. 1, 2008. It requires nearly all fuel sold by retailers to contain a 10 percent blend of ethanol, but only when it is cost-effective to do so. If the price of ethanol is more than regular gasoline, then tanker trucks do not have to distribute it to retail gas stations. But ethanol must be hauled to the pumps if its costs is less than or equal to regular gasoline. That makes Missouri's law a little quirky. But it gets far more complicated. According to the state Department of Agriculture, which regulates fuel, there are about two dozen refined fuel terminals located either in Missouri of just across the border in neighboring Illinois and Kansas. And each terminal may sell several different brands of ethanol and regular gasoline--each at a different price. So whether a fuel distributor must buy ethanol varies depending on the price of the particular brand of gasoline being purchased at that particular terminal on that particular day. The Agriculture Department's Division of Weights and Measures subscribes to a service that provides daily prices of the various blends of gasoline sold at terminals. But the department does not have personnel who review every sales receipt to see whether tanker truck operators follow Missouri's price-dependent ethanol mandate. Nor does the department have enough personnel to check daily--or even monthly--at each retail gas station to see whether it follows the ethanol law. In fact, legislators didn't give the Agriculture Department any additional staff to enforce the ethanol requirements they passed. Fuel inspectors get to each gas station about once every 18 months, said Ron Hayes, director of the Weights and Measures Division. They check the fuel's octane rating, volatility, sulfur content, cleanliness and its ethanol composition, among other things. If tests show the fuel contains little or no ethanol, then state employees may ask the gas station to prove the price of ethanol was too high when it filled its tank, Hayes said. State regulations give power to both the Agriculture and Revenue departments to examine the records and financial books of gasoline sellers to determine if they are complying with the ethanol law. Violators can face misdemeanor charges punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. But it never has come to that. The Revenue Department has done nothing to enforce the ethanol mandate, said agency spokesman Ted Farnen. The Agriculture Department has asked for price documentation in only a few cases, Hayes said. Of 421 gas stations tested from July through September, just one--in rural Cedar County--had no ethanol in its fuel, Hayes said. That case is under investigation. "We're not really having to go in and do any enforcement actions. It's taking care of itself,'' Hayes said. That's because there is little incentive for gas distributors to violate the ethanol law. It doesn't make sense in a competitive market to buy regular gasoline when ethanol is cheaper. Regardless of how aggressively the state is enforcing the law, "my guys comply with the ethanol standard each and every day, each and every time their tankers pull up to a terminal,'' said Ron Leone, executive director of the Missouri Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association. That's "because we're always pulling the cheapest product.'' Last week, ethanol-blended gasoline generally was several cents cheaper than regular gasoline at Missouri's fuel terminals. But that's not always the case. In the first quarter of this year, the price of regular gasoline was significantly cheaper than ethanol, the agriculture department said. Yet the department said 90 percent of its test samples showed the ethanol-blended fuel. Perhaps because of the hassle of switching between ethanol-free and ethanol-blended gasoline, some Missouri gas stations continued to sell the ethanol version even when they were not legally required to do so. Similarly, fuel suppliers at terminals always keep ethanol on hand--even when it is more expensive than regular gasoline, said Ryan Rowden, executive director of the Missouri Petroleum Council.

I hope its true, but this is the first I have heard of it. Not holding my breath.

Amen to that. Maybe getting rid of Johnson improved moral, or maybe they thought they better pick it up or they will get rid of them.

I Need A Boat Cover?

Mallery canvas in Carthage does a good job. -
Put in at Ruark at daylight yesterday. Was fogged in until 8:30. Fished the bridge area and caught quite a few on a jig and grub even a couple keepers. After fog lifted ran up the sac to hunt awhile. Came out of the woods at noon and started fishing again and there were boats fishing wherever I was thinking of going. I have never seen so many boats this time of year in the middle of the week. Still managed to get bit and had one 4 pounder. Deeper rock banks were the key for me, most bites in 12 15 ft. Had a few up close in the bushes , but for the most part they were backed off the banks.
-
They are pulling the lake hard and last Sat the fish were off the bushes back on the old banks. Didnt have a white hit either, but still lots of shorts with an occasional keeper . That was mixed in with my deer hunting.
-
Champ, I agree it could be bad weather, but on the other had it could be a bonaza! 40 degrees nice chop on the water watch out big numbers could come in!
-
I will be doing both at Stockton, go in the woods by boat. hunt a little fish a little. Good times

Phil, I had saw it on the news also. DNR investigating sewage spill in Branson By Mindy Honey Society Editor Originally published Nov. 10, 2009 An electrical outage is to blame for more than 10,000 gallons of untreated waste spilling into a tributary of Fall Creek last week, city of Branson officials have reported. Late Wednesday, a lift station pump failed near Missouri 165. The alarm that would have signaled the failure did not go off due to a breaker being flipped. The failed pump was not found until a routine check was made, according to Larry VanGilder, Branson public works director. “As long as we are working with mechanical and electrical (equipment), things are going to fail from time to time,” VanGilder said. The sewage bypass lasted 15 minutes and released an estimated 10,000-12,000 gallons of untreated water. According to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the wastewater made its way to Fall Creek. The city staff began drawing samples from the creek last week and was set to draw again on Monday. Initial tests did show elevated fecal count levels at the spill site. The fish are not in danger though, Mike Ray, interim utilities director, reported. “Further testing will show how much affect this has had on the overall stream,” VanGilder said. Fall Creek drains into Lake Taneycomo. The release of untreated sewage from sewer systems represents a potential threat to public health and the environment. Because of the spill, residents are encouraged to avoid contact with the water in Fall Creek until further notice. The incident is something city officials do not want to see repeated. “We are putting in additional safeguards,” VanGilder said.

At stockton I would put in at Ruark bluff. They are fish inside that cove. Also go under the bridge and fish the first point on the left that has all the brush on it. Fish it around the bend 100 yards or so towards the second bridge. You can also troll that point in around 8 - 15 ft with a crankbait and pick up a few walleys. Hope that helps.

That would be my guess too, maybe a wart bite.

Actually both. Mutton creek area down the sac about half way down. Points and cuts close to points worked the best.

Was at Stockton today. Water temp was 57. Loads of short fish in the front bushes on jig and spinner bait. A few big whites also caught in the bushes.

Nice report! Kinda gets my hopes up for this weekend. Thats my kind of fishing.

Sometimes back of the boat is the place to be! Front of the boat pointed into the bank at a 45 degree angel, WATCH OUT you can put the hurt on them running a blade or cranker. Flipping bushes sure the front guy gets the first shot, but alot of times that fish will hit it on the second offering. I always told my non boater to cast ahead of his postion or in front of the boat when I am out of the way. I dont like to have to turn around and go back 30 yards to retrieve his hang up. I never was a stickler for the front is mine and the back is yours. Very windy conditons, the back guy gets to concentrate on hitting his shots, not on keeping the boat on course and wearing down after fighting the trolling motor all day. The back of the boat is a handicap only if your mind makes it so. Sure I have drawn jerks that have the attitude they are God and the front part of the boat is his domain, no problem adapt, and overcome. I have on several occasions told the non boater to get up front with me so I didnt have to worry about not shutting him out and controling the boat on very windy days. 90 % of all the guys I have fished with, boater or non boater have been a pleasure to fish with. I would always rather fish for fun than money. Disclaimer: I am not a professional fisherman nor do I want to be. The above opinions are my own and are not in anyway to be interputed as professional in anyway shape or form..

Was roaring river built by the CCC? Watched a show on the CCC and those guys worked for a buck a day, new clothes and shoes, plus 3 squares a day. and they were happy to have it. They built most of the State and Federal parks.

That one will be tasty!
