  1. Hey guys.. try using the Umpqua roll on indicators.. they are the bees knees. You can use a whole or a half piece.. they stay in place well and are perfect for tinys.
  2. Did it come out of that skinny water behind you ? Wow.
  3. Did you try my beetle Phil ? Or decide it was too big ? I generally use it on 6X mono.. RIO. Brian EDIT - did you see my ants on the fly tying recipe page ?
  4. You could look into some of the Bass Pro rods and reels... I own 3 of their rods.. my favorite is a 7'6" 4-5wt Hobbs Creek I bought at the Outlet store in Springfield for $20. The other two were also bought at the outlet... a 6'6" 3wt and a 5'4" 4 weight. Both rods were $30 for no reason. (no tube or sock tho)
  5. I've got a friend in mind that will blow this out of the water.. he is already tying his bugs now. Not a famous tyer... well maybe a little famous.
  6. But... you can only kill and keep one brown, over 20 inches.
  7. You need to have a heavier leader to the Big Ugly fly. Maybe a 2x 7.5ft leader... The mono is being stretched.... bad thing too as it weakens everything in the system. I say use 4X off the 2X leader... 6lb.. but a number of my friends use 3X 8lb.
  8. Yes and no. Try fishing down at the Landing... they should've stocked 35k fish this month.
  9. If I didn't already own two of these..... ....
  10. O/B - I do like the sound of that fly already...we will have you as long as your tell buddies too... I know you tie some good looking bugs....
  11. Now seems to be the time to be locking your stuff up. Hopefully they catch these guys. You don't mess with a guys automobile... or his boat.
  12. YIKES!!! A 6lb'er ?? that's a whole lotta fish ! Last time I went.. I got bit up by the mosquitoes...
  13. Neat guy.. we lost another legend. another link - http://www.worldfish...-97-239959.aspx This will be read when I am gone and my ashes are thrown into Lake Taneycomo: The Fisherman’s Prayer By Homer Circle God grant that I may fish until my dying day; And when at last I come to rest, I’ll then most humbly pray; When in His landing net I lie in final sleep; That in His mercy I’ll be judged as good enough to keep! Amen
  14. I remember guys that would catch sculpins at the boat ramp and then put a bell sinker in their mouth and sew it shut with mono. Then rig up a front hook and a trailer hook coming out the tail. It worked real good for them. Pretty elaborate and time consuming.. but they talked of catching 10lb+ browns often. That was 1995.
  15. Are we talking sculpins as bait or flies here ? Just curious.
  16. Well I decided to call... the explanation was they were doing testing on the units individually to make sure the horn would sound on all levels of generation.... but without releasing any additional water thru the turbines. So my next question was if they were done testing... he said no... and that it will continue today with the same load being the 25mw as scheduled unless blah..blah.. runaround canned information they always say to cover their butts. Be prepared that the horn will be sounding many times today as well. But just 1 unit is being called for. Still - it is irritating as all get out for the horn to blow every 12 minutes or so....
  17. I wasn't the only one freaked out by the number of horn blows at the dam today. 22 horns blew in the 3 hours while I was fishing ... and the water level never changed from the 1 unit or so they were running. Was anyone else up there Wednesday ? It was very distracting to say the least. I fished from just after 12 noon to just after 3:30pm or so. Does anyone know why there was such an usual number of horn blows ? Were they working on them ? Funny that most of the time, it was only the horn on top of the dam that sounded... not both it and the stack unit above the boat ramp. Phil or anyone - any answers ?
  18. Lancer - thanks for taking on the swap! Lets set the "no later than this date" at July 25th... what do you think ? ****** EDIT - Due date is now August 20th ****** Now we just need for the fly tying peeps on the board to jump on board! We should list the recipes on this page so its easy for everyone to look up.
  19. It was a fun time had by all... but any 18 inch almost 3 pound rainbow is unheard of for most 12 year olds on any waters! Let alone one caught on a 'brand new to them' dry fly ... I was glad to see that both of the boys had what it takes to make it happen... also a rarity if you ask me. Turning you guys onto fishing more terrestrials was my favorite part.... just glad the fish cooperated. Next time you guys come down... you will be much more comfortable on Taneycomo. It was my pleasure! Don - did you figure out some pics to crop yet ?
  20. Steve Dally's photo from the O/A front page : cutt bow ?
  21. Anyone want to start a fall big brown fly swap ? 16 people max. 8 week deadline. ( This should be a summer swap so we can get all flies tied by August 15th ) I am not starting or heading up the swap.. just wondering if you guys want to do one. Phil - you should get in on this. I'm talking big flies... sz 10 and above need not apply. Only big ugly yummy meaties.....stuff big bows and browns would love to chomp on and hang onto. I would like to do Borger's Down and Dirty Mouse.... only all mine will be black with grizzly tail
  22. Many fish cannot cross breed... as in browns and rainbows. * It is impossible * I was fishing with ruthead (Don) and is family Tuesday and Wednesday... I think we caught only a couple of fish with really good white tipped fins. Side note, one juvenile brown that was caught was fin clipped... right side clipped. Linda caught that one I think. Our Taneycomo trout ... from what I have learned so far, have only been been cross bred with the McCloud strain. I do know that MDC tried to get other fish introduced (i.e. bred) with other strains... to no avail. So why the intense cutt-bow trout qualities ? Lots of fish (after feeding on a good diet of scuds) really do have the slash markings of a true cutt-bow or just complete cutthroat trout from Yellowstone ?
  23. I still think it is as not as good as it was.... pre-flood 2011. The upper end has suffered...a great deal.
  24. It's a Rain-brown. (totally joking.. I just think rain-brown is funny....after I heard someone say it on the stream)
  25. Just a tip to you guys that chest pack fish.. I use this little gadget to pluck out my dries. It's got a little magnet at the end... at the bottom in the picture. Nice for what I paid.
