  1. Use an EWG hook and Texas rig your bait when doing the DS around docks and brush.
  2. Funny thing, today I was watching "Honey Hole Outdoors" which is a Texas fishing show hosted by a good bass fisherman by the name of Bill Wilcox. Good fishing show, runs weekly on Fox Sports SW on Sunday mornings - I record it. Anyway, on today's show, Bill was fishing a drop shot on a bait caster. He was flipping it around docks and cover and felt that the BC set up gave him better control and accuracy in that situation. I usually use spinning tackle with the DS, but I'm mostly using it in deep, open water situations, I can see using a BC when working it around cover and docks. I also like using a light spinning setup in the open water situation as most of the fish are 12-16" spotted bass, they are just a lot more fun on light tackle. And I'm using a 1/8 oz weight, I can flick it out there 30-40 feet with my spinning gear and watch the line as it sinks, lots of bites come on the fall. I'm not saying it's the best way for all, but it works for me.
  3. Thanks for the reports folks, funny how things change this time of year, but it seems the jig bite is getting pretty consistent.
  4. That rainbow is ridiculously fat.
  5. That run to Eureka Springs seems to be a popular one. Came back from Table Rock on Friday, 62 west bound was almost a constant stream of motorcycles heading out that way.
  6. Did you see any motorcycles in the area?
  7. Well they had a chance yesterday with the Tigers losing. Duffy couldn't last more than 2 innings. He needs to get right because they are going to need him in the playoffs (should they advance past the wild card game).
  8. Big win for Mizzou. Seems to be some parity this year in the SEC.
  9. I'd stick to channel cats, much less likely to breed and get out of control in a pond.
  10. Don't have an online copy either. But it is for real.
  11. Yeah it's really sad, and you're right, the play calling in the 2nd half was a head scratcher.
  12. I'm so ticked right now, but I have to vent. A killer tripping penalty that nullified what could have been a set up for a touchdown that probably would have won the game. What makes it worse is that is was on the other side of the line and did not effect the play at all. Totally unnecessary and just plain stupid. 2 fumbled snaps from center. A&M receivers getting behind the Arkansas secondary and scoring easy TD's. Hogs could have won this game, but they beat themselves with the stupid stick. Grrrr.....
  13. I saw that also, but thanks for the warning.
  14. Just saw this in the AGFC Outdoor news, stocked in August, something different that the usual rainbow stocking. White River, Baxter, Izard and Marion Counties, 79,132 fingerling brown trout White River, Baxter County, 8,864 Catchable Cutthroat Trout White River, Baxter, Marion and Izard Counties, 69,206 fingerling cutthroat trout
  15. Could be only for one game, but they still have an outside shot at the division. They could end up in a tie with Detroit, have to play them in a one game tie breaker for the division, and if they lost that game, play a one game playoff against Oakland.
  16. Some Ned fish, I'll be darn. I'll have to break mine out of storage.
  17. I'm happy with "normal".
  18. We've got gizzard shad in some of the lakes here in Bella Vista. The lakes biologist would love to remove them all. They get too big to provide forage for bass, and they are plankton eating machines to the detriment of all other fish species. Young gizzard shad provide excellent forage, but conditions have to be right for them to spawn and that can be problematic in a pond. You can end up in the exact situation you are describing, lots of big shad and few other species. Disclaimer: I'm regurgitating what I've heard from the bio. Threadfin shad are the "good" shad, but subject to winter kill in a small body of water. They also probably won't reproduce in that situation either.
  19. Wow, had to laugh at that. Why did he even care?
  20. I've seen some pictures of smallies being caught out of American lake this summer. Might be good close option if Tapps is in bad shape.
  21. Had Jeb with me today, we fished from the Kings upriver to past owl creek, mainly stopping and fishing bluff banks, chunk rock banks and points. Had to deal once again with flat calm and sunny skies. The bite was a little better than I expected, nothing great, but we put 30 bass into the boat. Biggest was a 17" mean, or smallie, couldn't exactly tell what it was. A couple of LM's but mostly 12-15" spots. A few drop shot fish and a couple on spoons, but most were on FB jigs in some variation of green pumpkin dragged slowly down steep banks. Monarch butterfly migration must be on, saw a few flying across the lake. Lots of motorcycles on the roads. Water temp - 76-77.
  22. Excellent, always good to see some folks out having fun fishing!
  23. Returned to the Big M today. You'd think that on the 2nd day of fishing I would do better having located some fish on day 1. That was not the case. I'm blaming it on the flat water and blue bird skies. Caught 10 bass, mostly 12-13 inch spots, with 2 in the 14-15" range. All on jigs on steep banks. Didn't do much drop shot fishing as the fish just weren't in the spots they were yesterday. Had one biggun that slack lined me and was almost underneath the boat before I could catch up, gave a couple of heavy head shakes and got off. Heckuva nice day, but could have used some wind.
  24. Thanks for the report, and welcome to the forum!
  25. Yep I agree, they have some good stuff. These trailers are pretty durable, I put a Strike King Rage Chunk on a jig today, caught a 12' spot, after releasing the fish, looked at the chunk and both claws were gone. The Missile Baits are good for multiple fish.
