  1. I've heard of those Mikeys, I'm hoping that it works for you on the Rock. If it does, send me a PM, don't let the other guys know
  2. Hmmmm, braid. I have a reel spooled with some but I believe it is 65#. Worth a try, I was always worried braid on a surface bait would spook the fish.
  3. Thanks Bill for sharing your knowledge. Looks like it is getting time to start fishing the drop shot.
  4. June 7th I was on the Rock, had a great early morning top water bite, then things really slowed down, I left at 1130 AM. I looked at the generation chart for 6/7, low generation until 1100, then they started running water for the ret of the day. I'm just wondering if the fishing might have picked up later in the day due to the increased flow? Anyone notice any change in the fishing in the lake when they're running water? Chart for the day. 5th column is a measure of current flow (CFS), notice how it jumps at 1100. 07JUN2013 0100 918.20 708.33 7023 106 07JUN2013 0200 918.22 707.69 9532 150 07JUN2013 0300 918.25 704.48 7996 124 07JUN2013 0400 918.23 703.81 1810 27 07JUN2013 0500 918.20 703.66 1734 26 07JUN2013 0600 918.19 703.65 1740 26 07JUN2013 0700 918.21 703.65 1736 26 07JUN2013 0800 918.24 703.62 1737 26 07JUN2013 0900 918.23 704.28 1728 26 07JUN2013 1000 918.20 707.70 2480 37 07JUN2013 1100 918.20 708.52 8421 132 07JUN2013 1200 918.16 708.73 9472 149 07JUN2013 1300 918.16 708.72 9843 155 07JUN2013 1400 918.15 708.79 9658 152 07JUN2013 1500 918.12 708.70 10099 159 07JUN2013 1600 918.15 708.84 9786 154
  5. Wise guy
  6. These folks make a nice fly, I don't see why they would not work for crappie, but if I was crappie fishing I'd probably just use a crappie jig, or one of the crappie plastic baits on a jig head. I like whites with some chartreuse in them for bass. http://www.cumberlandpro.com/Products/FNF.html
  7. Decided not to fish the Beav today, might give it a shot during the week. Hopefully you guys will get into them today. Weather guesser says that after Sunday, we're in for an extended warm and dry spell so we might have seen the peak for Beaver this year.
  8. My granddad and dad fished TR when I was a tyke, I was probably 4 or 5 years old, so it must have been 1962 or 63. My only memory is standing on a sand beach pitching a fit as my dad and granddad left in the boat. I had to stay with the women folk at the cabin and was none too happy. They've both passed, but when they were alive they always said the fishing then was great. We lived in Wichita and moved away to Ohio not long after that so I never got to fish TR until recently.
  9. I did that with my fins and still had one run goofy. Maybe it's just a really bad one.
  10. Very nice, congrats!
  11. It's not clear by TR standards, 5 - 8 feet of viz, less in some of the coves. Swimbait sounds like a good idea, hopefully you'll get into them!
  12. I brought a couple of fins with me today that I had swapped out hooks and rings. One ran either right or left, I could not get it to track straight, I'll take the hooks and rings off and smash it with a hammer. 2nd one seemed to be sort of OK, but had a heck of a time trying to get it to stay on top. The fish did not seem to like it either, but the TW bite had stopped by the time I started wasting time with the fins, so the 2nd one will get another chance.
  13. Glad to hear you are able to keep your pooch.

  15. Rps, I caught a couple dragging on gravel points right up by the buck brush. Got the one above in about 10 feet on a timbered flat. Tried a couple of places that were 10-15' that held fish a couple of days ago, but no dice. Not much of a drag bite today for me.
  16. Christie is in the lead, can he win another one? Jimmy Houston is nipping at his heels. http://www.flwoutdoors.com/bassfishing/flw/tournament/2013/6947/grand-lake-professional-results/
  17. That is a good pic.
  18. Up with the chickens this morning, threw my first cast a little after 0530. Had a great TW bite for about an hour, most came on the Gunfish, a couple on a Lucky Craft RC wakebait. Then once the sun came over the hill that bite stopped. Spend some time c-rigging, caught a few doing that but never could find a good bite on the bottom dragging stuff. Finished with 17 black bass, had some decent quality, nothing huge, but a fair bag of 15-17" fish. Did have one that looked to be about 4 lbs. come unpinned at the boat. On the trailer at 1145. Lots of bass and walleye boats on the water today.
  19. Mondo Tackle is now selling some shroom heads. Thumbs up or down? http://www.mondotackle.com/item/P018000519001241.html
  20. Tried it for the first time early this spring on Table Rock, I caught some spots on it, fishing it on a deep channel swing that came in near a flat. I haven't tried it during the warm months, but it might be worth a shot.
  21. That's a good philosophy Stilfisher, save, invest, and plan for retirement. If you get there and decide you still want to work, that's fine, but if you've got a nest egg built up you have options. Lots of people when they are young say that they will work through old age, but when you get older you may not feel that way and you may also be battling the physical and/or mental issues that getting older can bring. Plan so you have choices.
  22. Today's Benton County paper had a trolling article in the Outdoors section. In a nutshell, the guy was trolling in Shaddox holler through the trees using Bandit 300's. He says as long as you troll in a straight line the Bandits will deflect off the timber. He and the reported caught 20 crappie and a keeper walleye trolling one evening.
  23. Well I've got several reasons. not many wake boats or other floating annoyances, not as much development on the shores, much more scenic than the lower lake. For me sometimes it is not about the number of fish in the boat, but the overall experience. Hickory and PC are crazy on summer Saturdays. The fishing can be pretty darn good also.
  24. Looks like a load of fun, thanks for the report and pics!
