  1. Cunningham, thanks for the info. How did you do Saturday?
  2. Today's Arkansas Gazette has an article that states that farmers are taking CRP land and planting corn on it. Corn that will be converted to Ethanol. The writer speculates that this loss of CRP land will have a direct negative impact on duck numbers.
  3. I was reading that farmers are planting corn now instead of other crops because of Ethanol. We could see increases in food prices, especially for meat and pork. Then there's also biodiesel, some crops are better biodiesel producers than others and they aren't necessarily food crops, so again we could lose more food production so that we can produce biodiesel.
  4. As Britts and Birds says, they got us by the lower unit, we can whine about oil companies, conspiracies, taxes, govt officials, dems, GOP, (name your villain) but they're selling it for $3.00 and we're buying it. The oil industry figured out last year that we'll pay these high prices, maybe we'll grumble about it and blame whomever, but we'll still pay, heck the oil companies aren't charities, if we give them our money they'll take it. Best thing to do is buy some oil company stock. Exxon has doubled in the last 5 years.
  5. I was reading the other day that gasoline usage in the US, despite higher prices, is still rising on a year to year basis. As long as we keep burnung it, they'll keep charging us for the priviledge. I'm reminded of that old Pogo saying: "We have met the enemy and they is us."
  6. My neighbor and I went fishing Saturday, we were discussing how fast how fast this area was growing, and he made the claim that a new Disney World is being planned for SW MO. I haven't heard anything about this until he mentioned it. So, is he talking through his hat? Or is Disney planning on building a new resort?
  7. How are the cats doing?
  8. I hear ya RiverRunner, the absolute worst are people that back their boat down the ramp (blocking everyone else) then start getting their gear ready before they launch.
  9. How about this one? Or this one , this one is really too cute:
  10. Glad to hear it all worked out in the end after a scary start.
  11. Sounds like a great trip!
  12. The veggies I planted made it through the cold, I used towels instead of sheets. Put a small cooler over a tomato plant I had foolishly planted 2 weeks ago. Brocolli looks a little stressed, but peas and onions made it OK. Come on back warm weather!
  13. There's a little snow on my deck and I can see some on the neighbors roof. This is ridiculous.
  14. Thanks for the report, one of these days I'm going to make it over there.
  15. 15 foot lightweight aluminum canoe for sale, it was my dad's and did receive use in the local streams. Lightweight, drags easy in the shallow spots. Some scratches in the hull but otherwise in fine shape. Retails new around $800, will sell for $325. Use the site messaging service to contact me. Canoe is in Bella Vista, AR and you'll have to come pick it up if you want it.
  16. PETA is usually good for a laugh or two, not that they're trying to be funny.
  17. I drove to Dallas last week for a business trip. Took US 69 through Oklahoma. From about Salisaw south to McAlester the amount of tree damage was amazing. Just about every tree had large broken limbs. Going south on 69 last Monday morning I probably saw at least a hundred Power Co. cherry picker rigs heading northbound, to home I assume. Even so, the motels in McAlester still had a lot of rigs parked in their lots. Pretty amazing thing to see. Power appeared to be restored as far as I could tell in the area.
  18. Yesterday was a little rainy, then some sleet, a little snow, and this AM a little cold drizzle. Power blinked off a couple of times last night, but fortunatley no major issues. I have to drive to Dallas early tomorrow AM, I'm curious to hear road conditions on 540 south of Fayetteville and 40 around FT. Smith. I think there aren't any probs with those roads.
  19. I had a similar problem with a 90 HP Merc I used to own, I don't know the official terminology, but on my Merc there was a horizontal cylinder with a rod that moved lateraly through it that the steering cables attached to under the motor. I took it in and had it serviced, they basically disassembled it and cleaned the gunk out. Forgot the exact cost but it was less than $100. Steering worked fine after that. Don't know if you have a similar setup, but it sounds like the issue I had. Mechanic said it was a fairly common issue.
  20. If I can get one that fits my big head, I'd be a buyer.
  21. Power went out here at my house Sunday around 3 PM, just came back on 2 hours ago. They think they'll have power restored to the NW Arkansas areas that are out by end of day tomorrow. Still a lot of ice on the trees, but the limbs have stopped falling and I haven't heard anymore trees come crashing down in the woods.
  22. 0730 Sunday AM and amazingly the power is still on here in my neck of the woods in Bella Vista. The forecast is for another round of precip this afternoon, I hope they are wrong. It's an icy wonderland out there, but the roads near my house aren't that bad. 0730 Sunday AM and amazingly the power is still on here in my neck of the woods in Bella Vista. 23. 1 PM right now in Bella Vista, temp around 29. Roads wet but not icy, trees and power lines are icy. Lost power from 0330-1030 this AM, glad to have it back, I just hope it stays on for the playoff games! Forecast is for heavy icing this afternoon and night, I hope they are wrong! Lots of rain last night, Beaver should be getting a good shot of water.
