  1. Planted asparagus last spring for the first time and there's a few stalks coming up. One of them is probably 4 feet high now and has turned into a sort of ferny looking deal. Going to throw out a few tomato plants today, maybe plant some cukes too.
  2. Last year Dutch and I were not too far from Cape Fair in dense fog, we didn't go far from the launch because of the fog. There was a tourney going on that day and If I remember correctly, it was one of the lower level MLF deals. We had maybe half a dozen boats go by on plane in fog so thick we could not see them. If you know the James channel by Cape Fair it isn't that wide and if you can't see a boat in the middle of the channel, then it is pretty foggy. I'm guessing that day it was clear at the launch so they let those boys go. Still not an excuse to run on plane if you hit fog.
  3. From the Weekly Vista: 1/2 cup mayo 2 tablespoons melted butter 1/3 cup chopped onion 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese One tablespoon lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay (adjustable according to taste) Spread it on the fillets and bake. Top with bread crumbs.

From the outdoors section of the Weekly Vista: 2 Tablespoons olive oil 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup soy sauce dash of lemon or lime I'm going to try it, I'm in diet mode, would not hurt to eat some baked fish. And it's easy which I like. '
  5. Article does not mention it was dense fog, bass boat running in fog collided with a striper guide boat that was stopped. I believe that the 3 killed were all in the striper boat (center console). We get plenty of fog on Table Rock, be careful. 3 dead in boat crash at Alabama fishing tournament
  6. I looked around a week ago on some bans the bass spawn on every year and did not see any. Did not see any on Beaver yesterday, but did not look to hard.
  7. For me, yes, it is a long boat ride from where I launch. I have fished the North Clifty branch a few times and have found some good fishing. Stripers like that area in May and June and you can find them on top and have top water fun.
  8. My buddy John found some whites this weekend in the Indian Creek area, and we launched early this morning to see if they were still there. They were there. In a little cove you can just about cast across. For about an hour and a half it was just about a bite every cast. We caught a bunch of whites, lost count. Brought home a couple that were 2 3/4 lbs. 1-2 lbers were the majority of the fish we caught. In between we picked up 3 walleye, all keepers, biggest was a little over 5 lbs. (released). Couple of black bass mixed in. They shut down and we fished a few banks and the back end of another cove hoping to catch some smallies. We caught 6 or 7 smalls and a big ol' crappie. Couple of the smalls were chunky keepers. 2.8 keitechs were all we used. Brought home enough for a couple of meals:
  9. Looking at the long range forecast, it looks like several inches of rain are possible this weekend.
  10. Oh man, sorry to see that one get off.
  11. Hard to read the tea leaves. 915?
  12. I read where Phil was saying that the plan would be to drop it to 917, then I assume close the floodgates.
  13. I think they are still pre-spawn.
  14. The water is stained green for the most part, maybe 10 foot of viz was the clearest I saw. The bite should get better as the water warms.
  15. Bill- Are you using marabou jigs or feathers?
  16. I keep forgetting about that float-n-fly. I have the floats and the flies; I just need to use them. Thanks for the reminder, Bill.
  17. A little chilly early but turned into a very nice spring day. I fished from daylight until noon. A lot of other fishermen out on the lake. Saw several kayaks, might have been a yak tourney going on. Bite was a little slow but not bad. I caught 10 bass, nine were smalls and one LM. No bigguns, 3 were over the 15" mark. Average size was good, had several near keepers too. Water has warmed enough that the smalls are pulling pretty hard, lots of fun on the spinning rod. I caught the first two on a little jig, the rest were on 2.8 Keitechs. Most bites were in less than 15 FOW. A buddy of mine was out too, he and his friend caught several good LM's and some white bass. I'm not going to say exactly where, but if you poke around in the backs of the coves you might find some white bass. WT 55-56
  18. Thanks - I fished the lower end of Beaver yesterday, no eyes but some smallies. I do expect to start picking up some random walleye soon.
  19. You had a good day, Upper White has been tough this year. Had a buddy that fished up there yesterday and he mentioned that there were a lot of people out fishing.
  20. If they work really well can you let me know? By PM of course, don't want the other guys catching on. 😄
  21. Catch a tiger by the tail(water) • Arkansas Game & Fish Commission
  22. Those Z-Man baits are mean to other plastics.
  23. Knowing my fellow bass fishermen like I do, I doubt anyone, including myself, will buy a soft plastic based on its biodegradability. The big question will be - does it catch fish?
  24. I was wondering about the carp spawn, saw a few flopping around on TR, thought they may be close to spawn.
  25. Beaver went to a 10 spotted bass limit with no minimum length maybe 3-4 years ago. I haven't heard of any enforcement issues. Not saying there haven't been any, but none I have heard of. Stockton has a 12" limit on spots, 15" on the other bass. I don't see enforcement issues being a reason to not consider changing the limit. You also have different size limits on cutts, browns, and rainbows on the tailwater rivers. If you've got people that can't tell a smallmouth from a carp, just imagine how many can't tell a cutt from a rainbow, or a rainbow from a brown.
