  1. It's that time of year. Basscat tourney on Beaver this weekend, I think they fish Thursday - Saturday, I was out on Beaver yesterday up in the dam area and I have never seen so many bass boats in that area of the lake.
  2. Decided to take a shot at targeting walleye today, spend most of the morning fishing points and a few rocky banks throwing a 3.3 Keitech. Caught one walleye that measured 19". Picked up several smallmouth and some whites also, but nothing of exceptional size. Beautiful day to be out fishing, but the fishing was slow. Basscat owner's tournament is in town and there were bass boats all over the place. Surface temp 63.
  3. Got out late today, waited for the rain showers to clear out, ended up launching around 1030 AM. Started out fishing Keitechs around smallmouth banks and points, never found much of a good bite, caught a couple that were around the keeper mark and one dink. Did catch a keeper walleye off a gravel point. Went back into Indian and fished around docks and timber, still slow picked up a couple of 13" spots, and a couple of white bass. Switched out to fishing a 1/16 oz Ned head with a cut Zinker and started to get some consistent bites, but had problems getting them to stay on, they are on nests now and just aren't committing to eating that bait. Managed a few spots and a couple of short smallmouth on the Ned. Decided to go back and fish some main lake points to try and catch another walleye to go with the one in the livewell, usually that doesn't work out like I want it to, but today it did and I caught another keeper sized walter on the Keitech. Caught a little striper that might have been 3 pounds, couldn't get any more walleye bites so called it a day and got off the water about 5 PM. WT 62.

A Duck sighting! Sorry no help from me on the whites.
  5. No it wasn't me, I was kidding around about going to Baxter. I did go over to Beaver today, bass were slow there, but did get a couple of keeper walters.
  6. Yeah other fishermen can certainly be rude to say the least. Couple of weeks ago, early in the morning, water is like glass and I'm half way back in a cove getting some top water action. Haven't seen another boat at all. Hear an outboard running in the distance, it gets closer and around the point and into the cove comes some dude, plows water and goes past me about 50 feet, cuts the motor, deploys a minnow bucket over the side and drops the trolling motor and starts fishing. Not a young guy either, old enough to know better. Didn't say anything to him, I figure if a guy is a jackass at his age then it's a permanent condition, nothing I say will fix it. Plenty of other spots to fish, so I left, certainly don't want to be in the vicinity of a jackass in case it's contagious.
  7. Pulling the boat out of the garage right now, destination - Baxter! Too many good fish being caught there, I can't resist... 😜
  8. Neat colors on that trout!
  9. Where's Baxter? 😄
  10. That's a nice spot!
  11. Congrats on the tourney win!
  12. My neighbor and his son where throwing Wild Eye shads on Beaver for Stripers 2 years ago, they were using small 3-4" ones. They caught something like 30 stripers, one went 35lbs. This was over the course of several weeks in May, not on one trip. Never have thrown them myself for stripers, maybe this year, but if they're on top it's just too much fun to get those blowups.
  13. Got out early, flat calm, threw a top water and had some decent fishing for the first couple of hours walking the dog. Caught a couple dozen on the top water with a few keepers mixed in. The fish were on main channel banks and in the coves, the best bite was over 5 - 10 FOW. Wind kicked up about 10 AM and the top water bite pretty much stopped when that happened. Could not get much going on the Keitech or the shaky head. For the most part the fish looked to be gone from the main lake points that they were on just a couple of days ago. Threw a crank on some windy banks, no touches on it. Wind really started blowing, bite was slow, so I left at 1230. First two casts caught these two fish: Only Keitech keeper:

  15. I have thrown a couple of big glide baits, had a couple of bass swim up and take a look, but never eat them.
  16. Fishing was a little different today, caught 30 spots, not one largemouth or smallmouth. Most came on a 3.3 Keitech on a 1/4 oz head, caught a couple on the swing jig/Menace and one on top water. Fish were on main lake points and windy banks, usually in 5 -20 FOW. Caught 3 walleye, one was a keeper, a couple of crappie and even a rainbow trout, but no dang largemouth or smallmouth. WT 56, but I don't remember looking at it after 10 AM or so, I bet it warmed up later in the day.
  17. Yeah, in just a few weeks the wake boats will emerge.
  18. @Johnsfolly You need to persuade your management that you could do your job working out of a 'home office' located on Table Rock.
  19. Wish I had some to offer, I just don't fish that lake very often. Last year KVD whacked them on a square bill during a BASS tourney. Anyway, good luck and I'll be curious to hear how good/bad the fishing is.
  20. Nice bird Marty!
  21. Saw this one on Beaver a couple of years ago, copied from a thread on the Beaver lake forum:
  22. I love fishing a square bill when they are biting it.
  23. Yep, that's why I use the 1/0 on the smaller swimmers.
  24. It was a nice eye - lucky for him or more likely her, I just had some fried fish a week or so ago so she got to live to fight another day.
