  1. Aww man! How fun!!
  2. Rps, do you have a link for the article you wrote? I'll try searching a bit more too.
  3. Great report. Very helpful. Couple of nice fish too!! Good job.
  4. I am new to fishing Table Rock and had some difficulty with summer patterns. I got a guide for my birthday to answer some questions and give advice for the techniques I was struggling with. I ended up hiring Captain Mike Webb with Webb's Guide service. It was a recommendation from a co-worker and he is sponsored by my company (O'Reilly Auto Parts) so I figured it would be a good choice. I was not disappointed! First let me say a few words about Mike. He is a great teacher and makes it look easy which is the sign of a true expert. He didn't fish at all himself. He only kept his attention on me and the graph to locate fish and talk about why he made decisions on lure choices, location, etc. The man really knows his stuff. We started the day at Kimberling Inn. Right away we hit some schooling fish right near the ramp. We threw an inline spinner for a few minutes but they soon moved on and so did we. Next we hit a couple points near the Kimberling City area. We threw some tubes and shakey heads for a bit. He explained why the points worked and gave lots of pointers for the lures. Next we hit a boat dock for just a couple minutes. He said he doesn't fish docs much but they can be productive so he showed me some methods I could use on my own time if I would like to later. We threw jigging spoons and inline spinners around the docks. We then made a quick trip to the Indian Point area. In his boat it took no time at all to reach that side of the lake. We soon spotted quite a top water frenzy. The fish were moving around very fast. We tried wake baits, Pop R's and Spooks but couldn't seem to catch up to them. We chased them around a bit but they were moving all over. Finally we began the drop shot. Mike really excels at deep water drop-shotting. He really took time to show me graph tips and boy did we have fun. We caught the majority of fish for the day on the drop shot. Nearly all fish caught were chunks. Really nice fish! The trip really solidified the techniques I have been learning about and feel I can take what I learned and explore the lake on my own. What a great time!
  5. Thank you for the excellent report, Josh. I'm not sure what kind of injury you sustained but I'm glad it didn't keep you from what you love. Like Quill said, his reports has included a good Ol' Monster bite too. I bought some based on his recommendation. Have not used them yet but I plan to this week.
  6. Very nice.
  7. Oh yeah! Have fun!
  8. Ain't not'n gonna stop us from fishin'!
  9. Great pics and some nice fish!
  10. Excellent report as always. I went down after work on Tues. I took a friends son and we drifted some night crawlers. We only drifted from Fall creek to Cooper before calling it quits. We seemed to have better luck near Fall Creek. We saw a doe standing in the water up to her belly. I have never seen them wade that far in. About 10 minutes later we saw another doing the same! Few boats. We may make tues night a regular night through the summer. Had a good time. He wants to try to fly fish next time.
  11. Welcome to the forums, Frank!
  12. Welcome! There are many great rivers and streams for smallmouth as well as other species all around. We have of course Taneycomo and several trout parks all over the state. Many of the reservoirs have an annual white bass run which can be a thrill on the fly rod. We are lucky to have so many great opportunities for fishing in Missouri.
  13. Meant WOZ. Sorry
  14. Welcome Waz! Like others noted, that rod will come in handy for White River or Taneycomo browns. There are also a few around here that fly fish for giant stripers. I have not done that yet myself but boy that would be fun!!
  15. Good looking fly.
  16. Welcome! I'm in the same boat (couldn't help it). Just got my boat 5 weeks ago. It sure changes the game doesn't it? I have been fishing from a canoe for years. Did quite a bit of wading and fly fishing too. Still a lot of fun and I will always continue to fish that way. The boat just adds another dynamic to fishing. Passion became addiction. There are some friendly people here that have helped me quite a bit.
  17. He's right. I used 2/0 - 4/0 Gamakatsu Superline EWG worm hook and #3 split ring with 1/4 oz bass casting bell weight. Works perfect. Have not tried the BPS hooks. There is a great video on youtube explaining how to make them with these components. It also demonstrates the underwater action compared to texas rig in an aquarium. Pretty interesting. There is also a good article about Stacy King using them at Table Rock. His recipes for making them are slightly more complicated but there are some good tips for making and fishing them. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=Gd9LcxAHMPY&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DGd9LcxAHMPY http://www.in-fisherman.com/2012/10/08/stacey-the-jika-rig-king/
  18. Great post. Very detailed and easy to understand. I would love to learn more about walleye fishing. I have tried down at Bull Shoals a couple times but didn't really know what I was doing. I plan on saving the two articles you have shared. Keep up the good work!
  19. Thanks for the report. At least you were not fishless like I have been the last two times to TR. That would have been a good day for me here lately. Lol! I will continue trying to learn and use your suggestions (and those by others) at TR this weekend.
  20. That is great instruction. Thanks, Bill! Useful information for me too. I'm a local beginner.
  21. Thanks, Phil. More good info. Sounds fun.
  22. Wow. That's exciting! Great job!
  23. Great report. Nice fish!
  24. Excellent report. I have really been wanting to get into walleye fishing. I may need to give it a shot real soon. Sorry about your keys. I occassionally leave mine in by accident. I'll need to be more careful. New mental note: Plug at launch, keys at load. Were you trolling?
  25. Thanks, Jason. Lots of great advice. Definetely going to try these things Sat morning. Thinking of going tomorrow night for a bit. I sure appreciate everyone's advice. Thanks for taking the time to help a beginner.
