With as diverse a crowd as we have on here, I actually thought there would be some fellow beekeepers chime in here. Beekeeping has been in my family for years. Grandfather on Mom's side and Great Grandfather that I never met on my Dad's side kept bees as a personal source of honey for years. It skipped a generation with Dad, he tells the story of watching GGpa finding bees in a waterhole and lifting them out on his finger to keep them from drowning. Dad tried it as a little boy and pinched them when he picked them up and got stung. That is where he lost interest... It is really hard to tell what they are feeding on this time of year. Yard flowers and soybeans locally are my best guess. They were working on the cucumbers in my garden. In the spring of the year, fruit trees, maples, tulip poplars, black berry and other berry vines, dandelions, clovers, and spring flowers are all good producers. Different nectars do affect the color of honey and taste. In the late summer and fall, weeds, soybeans, goldenrod, gardens, and other fall flowers are what they feed on. Main honey flows are early in the spring which my girls seemed to have missed are over. Late flow should start soon if we get some rains. I call them my girls since that is the majority of the sex in the hive. 1 queen lays the eggs and all worker/gatherers are female also. A few male drones are around in the hive but they are only for mating a new queen and are expelled from the hive right before winter.

How To Purify The Water Of The Eleven Point River For Drinking?

I thought beaver fever was a good reason to purify the water! -
Yes, despite how some seem to slam us into the ground, we are still the strongest, greatest country in the world. We still have freedom, democracy, and great natural resources. We are what others loath or inspire to be, despite our current situation. We are first on the ground to help others in need and we get knocked around for it.

It is a state of the art hive from Kelley Bee Co in Kentucky. It has the deluxe screened bottom board with the slanted landing ramp. Came with a plastic hive cover. Entire design is for ventilation and pest control. I have an insert on order that slides in under the screen from the back. Fill it with veggie oil and the small hive beetle larva drop thru the screen into the oil and drown instead of the ground to complete their life cycle. The screen can be used with mite control also. I like the design. Most hives come with metal wrapped covers, I feel that would heat the hive up in direct sun. More workers required to cool hive, less out in the wild collecting. Brood boxes have metal rails for the frames to ride on. Frames are slotted top. To install the foundation, you just slide it in and place some support pins along the sides. This eliminates the complicated wiring process and the equipment needed to do it with. It came with shallow supers that have entrance holes drilled for more access to the hive. I have them corked now. The bees need to strengthen the brood box and build comb in the super. I am feeding 1:1 sugar water thru the top of the hive to stimulate that. Opened the hive this afternoon and noticed several young bees feeding on that. I am going to pick up a new queen as soon as this heat wave breaks. They will not ship one now, they come thru USPS, and they can't climate control them from departure to arrival. Hopefully, that will increase the hive and I can get the fall nectar flow. That will allow them to build up honey stores for winter.

Seems like one story I heard, he was blending in with the first responders till his gas mask did not match what other officers were issued and they pinched him. No shots fired. Shame he did not feel guilty about what he had done, decided he did not want to spend rest of life in prison, and swallow a round thru the tonsils. But he must have something else planned for the rest of his worthless life.

Tried the water trick, did not stop them. Game cam caught the possums coming in getting a drink from the water dish. Then it caught them eating maters. The trap did the trick.

And if the cap is blown, the charge is already out of them. That is why it was not starting the motor. Be sure to clean out the fins good, probably what caused it to blow in the first place.

No wonder you fly, I calculate over $500 in fuel to drive it round trip at 19mpg. -
Ness, he is coming out ahead. There are 12 people dead that will never get to enjoy another minute of life because of this scumbag. Every minute he draws breath, he lives longer than the ones that died at his hands. Who cares what this guy is all about, the judgement at hand is for what he has done.

There is a nice spring there too. It used to be a place where they raised aquatic plants. -

Old Steam Engine Exposed By Drought On The Gasconade.

The Mississippi is still not near a record low. You can not walk to Tower Rock, there is still a stream of water flowing between the bank and the rock. A few years ago you could walk across on dry land. -
What he said in a nutshell... We know what we are doing, tell the rest of the world.

Since I have gotten the beehive, afterwork hours have been spent watching the hive and the bees working. I discovered some problems the first week, small hive beetles and have bee treating the hive to correct it. Last Tues. we received a shower in the afternoon. After that I noticed that the activity in the hive increased and bees were every where. Light bulb went off, they were collecting water. Since that, I have been misting the hive after work and watching them come out and drink the fresh water. I also keep a bowl of fresh water next to the hive with a stick in it so they can land and drink. But they prefer the water off of the landing board or front of the hive body. Something to kill the time while I am moving the sprinkler around the garden watering it.

Capacitors are easy to replace. Kill the power with the disconnect, unscrew the terminals, take to Refrig Parts supply to match it up. Just don't get any of the juice on you, it is hazardous to health. Blown Caps usually are burnt, exploded, or leaking. Probably caused by a stopped up compressor coil, clean the unit out good with a hose.

My 4 Runner seems to get better gas mileage with a yak on top of it too, as long as the wind is not blowing. How far is the drive, I may be up for a road trip this fall.... -
2 possums and a coon here, they have been tearing up my tomatoes. Trap is set for a possum tonight, caught him on the game camera last night. I thought I had got them all. Came home this afternoon and the kiddie pool had the top ring deflated and mud was smeared all around it. Took a while to figure out, wild hog. The neighbor in the subdivision joining ours kept a jumping mule. It kept getting out, finally had to shoot it with a plastic pellet load of 12 ga to keep it off my property and out of the garden. They have gotten rid of the mule, raising pigs now. I catch one this time, BBQ.

I guess some missed the point I was trying to make, our justice system is as flawed as our political system. There is no reason someone that commits a crime of murder with witnesses and a smoking gun should not receive a swift trial and a fast, just punishment. Skip the foreplay, go right to the climax and be done with it. Cheap, fast, and efficient is the way I see that it should be in cases like this. Just because other countries and United Nations have a problem with our capital punishment system, there is no reason not to. We have one of the most extensive and elaborate prison systems in the world and our criminals are treated far to well. This slime painted his hair orange and called himself the Joker, and acted out a part of a previous Batman episode. You really don't think he was just looking for some attention and fame? Nothing has come out about him targeting anyone he had a hardon with at that theater, just a random shooting of innocent people. And now he gets the fame by months of media attention. And all of the lowlifes that have nothing better than sit around watching court TV all day will enjoy every minute of it. This scumbag will get to wake up every morning for the rest of his life and enjoy 3 hots and a cot. He can read in his spare time, maybe even watch a little TV. He won't have to worry about being hot or cold as his nice little cell will be climate controlled. He won't have to deal with a crummy job, worry about bills, his health or dental problems. He will get to see his mommy and others on a regular basis. He may even write a book, further his education, make a few lawsuits, or have a chance to infest others around him. There are 12 innocent people that will never get that chance because of him walking into a theater where they were quietly watching a movie. For that thought alone, quick execution ending his worthless life is what I base my opinion on.

That statement kinda looks like there may be a chance to reform him and offer him parole?? Every time this has happened since Columbine, it has became a media circus. All they talk about for weeks, then the trial comes around and it gets stirred again. Then the anniversary, it gets stirred again. They become famous, and in their sick little twisted brains, it is the justification and glory for them to see all of it. And yes, I feel it gives others ideas. If we whacked them on live TV and everyone watched that, it may deter a few of them. Capital punishment works, but it should be enacted swiftly in cases where there is no reasonable doubt. Not 20 years later when most have forgot what they did to deserve it. Other cases, where there is some doubt, that is different. This one is cut and dry, carry out sentence immediately.

Dang Al, won't it fit on top of the Prius? -
If it gets any hotter around here, we may need to find one. But we will need more water in the Mississippi River for them to migrate here.
-
What reason would any person come up with to let him keep breathing another day and run the chance he may inspire another to pull the same crap. This case, no reasonable doubt, skip the show and get right to the execution. That alone may make others think before they strike again. Otherwise, just more fuel for the fodder of future mass murders. Lots of publicity and fame, millions spent on trials and protection, lots of TV prime time. This keeps up, in a few years, there will be a reality show about mass murders. There is no reforming a creature like that, why let it breath another breath. His immediate and public death as punishment for his crimes may be a deterrent to prevent others from happening. As far as forgiveness goes, he has done something that no man can forgive, taken other lives. Only his god can make the decision to forgive that little sin. Not one of those victims were given a chance, gunned down by a cold blooded, pre-meditated killer, in the dark of a theater where they felt most comfortable, by a coward that was slinking around for no other reason than to do harm to his fellow man.

Good idea Tim. I was bringing up the fact that the NCAA punishment on Penn State is probably more severe than what the Colorado Court will deal him.
-
Well put Al, I was just saying the same thing at the office yesterday. When it is obvious and there are several witnesses, bring them in fast, convict, enact swift punishment as they walk out the door. Instead, this will drag out for years, millions of dollars will be spent, media will have a few good stories, he will plead insanity, and spend the rest of his life in jail. They should just go Penn State on him and really lower the boom.
