  1. They are a pain on ice or in freezing weather. I have a pair of regular soled boots for my stockingfoots when I use them to hunt.
  2. Its a black beadhead pattern with a krystal flash tail.
  3. Mo. senator seeks to dampen river parties Monday, December 1, 2008 JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A state lawmaker is trying to dampen the party scene on some of Missouri's popular floating streams. Newly proposed legislation would ban beer bongs, Jell-O shots, kegs and beaded Mardi Gras necklaces on Missouri rivers. The bill by Republican Sen. Delbert Scott, of Lowry City, was among the first filed Monday before the 2009 legislative session. The Missouri State Water Patrol says lewd behavior has become a major problem on the popular canoeing and rafting streams of the Ozarks. Maj. Tommy Roam estimates that alcohol is involved in well over 75 percent of the complaints the Water Patrol responds to on rivers. Just what we need, more laws. I have already surpassed this one, we toss out Lei's instead of beads, makes them feel special. So I guess our behavior will not be outlawed. And we still drink our beer one at a time.
  4. If you put in at the Highway 19 access probably so. It the best float with the best of the scenery.
  5. Good site, how long has it been up? I usually frequent www.flytyingforum.com for ideas and stuff. Great site.
  6. As much as I would like to see Wally crucified, as they are a thorn in society's side and have really hurt small town retailers, there are several other retailers that pulled the same crap and something really should be done about it. A massive lawsuit against Wally would set a precedence like the hot coffee incident with McDonalds and may put an end to the madness. Sales are one thing, limited supplies that cause a fight are another. I went out Friday and shopped after the morning duck hunt. I went to Staples for some electronics they had in an ad. The place was not crowded, they had the 3 items in stock I wanted, I was happy and done for the day. Did I mention I went in at 11:30 am. not 5:00 am.? I spoke with the cashier about the days business. She stated that they opened 15 minutes early because the crowd was getting rowdy and she had heard several complaints about Wally and Best Buy and their sales. I almost bought a 19" LCD monitor that they had for $99, still had a whole pallet left, $100 less than normal price. The guy that died in NY at Wally was in a store that featured a cheap vacuum cleaner, cheap digital camera, cheap plasma TV, and The Incredible Hulk DVD for $9. Not quite worth a human life. Had it been a stupid shopper that was stupid enough to wait outside for hours for a chance at the above cheap worthless crap, then the death would have been a little more acceptable because they had a death wish anyway.
  7. What part did you float?
  8. I really don't see the slander. If Lilley is parked in the lot with a personalized plate that said OAF-1, and someone reported seeing him in the lot, how would that be slander? Now if you said he was trolling for fruit, that may be slander. Anyhow, your problem, I have only been over to Taney once. Better over in that part of the state than around here. That lifestyle should really be more discreet. I don't want to see it on TV, in a parade, or in a parking lot.
  9. Why didn't you go up and ask for an autograph? Just don't shake his hand!! I notice you did not mention his name, is there some reason you want to keep him in the closet. I think he should be named and maybe his ticket sales will drop some. The only way to stop it is to expose the matter and let them know it is not a good place to hang out. If you keep it quiet and ignore it, they will have no reason to leave. Why not park in front of them with bright lights on and wait for them to leave. I don't think you would be breaking any laws.
  10. Walmart greeter stomped to death by early morning herd of shoppers looking for one of five cheap TV's, computers, or GPS's. What a way to die, the most tragic way to die, killed by greed. What is the world coming too? The last few years, Black Friday has gotten way out of hand at several retailers. Just 2 years ago, a lady stole a laptop out of an older man's cart locally because of the limited supply. Fights have broken out at stores. Its not just Wally, others are guilty too. If you want to put something on sale, keep enough on hand to satisfy the mob or don't do it at all. Walmart worker killed by early morning shoppers.
  11. My family owns several sections of Bear Creek, probably 4 miles of it total in 5 sections. Due to gravel buildup, it is hardly a navigable stream any more. The lower sections have some deeper holes. Nothing like it was 40 years ago.
  12. Yeah, I hope we can put that crap out of business..... Semissourian article on Ethanol.
  13. Why would this issue come up anyway? If there is a body of water you desire to fish and the banks are posted, contact the owner and gain permission. If it is navigable, float thru peacefully and fish it and stay in the boat. If a landowner confronts you and asks you to leave, then he probably has the right to because he owns the land. If you feel he is wrong, return with an officer of the law and clear the matter up. As a landowner myself, I don't have a problem with someone fishing thru my property in a peaceful manner. If someone is using the stream for hunting purposes and shoots around my livestock, then I have an issue. If someone damages property, fences, builds fires, makes camp, or otherwise makes himself at home, then I have an issue. With all of the public access in this state, it really should never be an issue, but it does come up from time to time.
  14. The day started early today, hour and a half drive to Crane Pond for the traditional Thanksgiving morning hunt. Stars were out bright. Deer and foxes crossed the road to keep me on my toes. I left the house it was a balmy 35, and at the lake 23. I met my buddy there and we unloaded the kayaks and filled them with dekes and hunting stuff. We paddled the lake into the early morning light. A slight fog rose off the water, but nothing else. We dropped off the dekes and hurried to cover the boats. We had not even gotten our guns out of the cases before the first flock of mallards swung the blind. I was able to get off one fast shot but did not connect with the bird. We sit and watched as they grouped up and continued on south. Little did we know, that would be the only ducks except for a pair of mud ducks and a single ringneck that circled the lake a few times. A pair of bald eagles watched the cove across the lake. At 10:00, we pulled out and left for home to our respective families for the rest of the day. My journey back took me along the hills and shutins of the St. Francois River and Marble Creek, another wonderful sight to behold. What a wonderful day. Happy Turkey Day!
  15. Interesting, I thought you would have to plug it in like a golf cart. There is a dealer in Farmington selling all electrical cars, I was wondering what the increase in a normal electric bill is. If the car charges when you brake, the rotors and the pads must make the charging field. What happens when it is parked for a while?
  16. Yuck, why would you want to take pics of that? I really thought years ago that kind of think would run its course and be done. It's not like they can pass along the gene for it to their offspring.... Anyhow, it is Missouri and there are laws against it. Of course they as a minority have more rights. You can't harrass them as it would be a "hate crime". And the profiling thing won't work either. We had a problem around here with them using our city parks as meeting places because of easy interstate access. Local PD figured it out, cracked down, and cleaned up the mess. Most can be monitored on web sites and I think that is how they cracked the case. Sick, sick, sick. Alot of what is wrong with the country today involves the lack of morals. I heard the nations religious leader that replaced Billy Graham is an openly Gay Bishop. What is wrong with the term "openly gay Bishop". I hope most of us know the answer to that one.
  17. That's the beauty of it, its out in the middle of nowhere, and no RV Campsites or major towns along the river. Few accesses and requires a little skill to paddle and flyfish. This keeps the crowds down. You can have most days to yourself on that river.
  18. Phil, why did you go and do that to the 11pt? Now it will be crowded like a trout park if the secret gets out!
  19. Al, just curious, how much does the electric bill go up with the Prius on charger? I have still not been able to comprehend the concept of Hybrids. They still use fossil fuel, but have a higher MPG due to the electrical supplement. Most electricity is still generated with fossil fuels so what is the net gain? And the batteries are made of lead which is a hazardous material. I am awaiting the hydrogen fuel cell technology, then we will be independent of fossil fuel.
  20. Well, as a matter of fact I thought about it for a while, then tyed on something white. I think it was marlboro, lucky it was only a single, and not a hatch, so I could not net one for inspection.
  21. Well, I thought a little update to the story was in order. Good news, bad neighbor has fixed underground fence and installed new collars on his remaining dogs. I don't know if it was "court ordered" or voluntary. Also noticed another problem neighbor with flags around his yard defining a new invisible fence. It is a shame that blood had to be shed to get the responsible pet owners, I wish I would have done it sooner!
  22. I wish it was that simple. I can catch fish all day long using one fly, but there are times that it does not work at all... You will need to carry a variety of flies in different sizes in order to catch fish consistantly just like fishing for any other fish. Best bet, go spend some time with a fly fishing friend and learn from him. Local fly shops in Taney will give you good tips on what is fishing best there. Trout Parks are a different critter all together, I have seen a park trout eat a cigarette butt and pass on my best tyed fly. Find a mentor and learn to fly fish. Take a class and read some books on how to cast. Hire a guide and pay attention. Be prepared to spend some money and buy affordable but quality equipment to start with and you will enjoy things better. Don't cheap out on waders, rods, or fly lines. Did I mention, learn from others experiences. I hope this helps, you are about to enter a very addictive sport.
  23. Welcome. Brian Sloss of 11ptcanoe.com is the Main Man on here for the 11pt, he will have the current conditions and shuttles if you need them. The upper portion above Turners Mill will be a trophy area with restrictions and 1 fish, 18" limit although I strongly encourage catch and release. Below that, the river is stocked by MDC from March to October and there are no restrictions. Smallmouth and Goggle Eye are fair game too, especially in the lower portions before you get to Riverton. Last few years MDC has been doing a special stock during December so you may hit that also. It will be cold probably, but fishing should be good. Flies should be streamers, stoneflies, crayfish imitations fished deep in the holes or riffles. Late season may bring out some spawners so bring some eggs also. I have had good luck with pheasant tail and bead head hares ear in size 12 or 14 also.
  24. Catman, I made it back by the shop and the powder was the substitute, not real black powder. I did not bother to ask them if they carry real black powder. Does the new Goex work as well as real black powder?
  25. The improved choke is the one to use. I doubt it would do any damage to shoot with the modified choke tube, but the open choke is the one to use. You can also purchase a rifled choke tube for the 870. Improved should be the improved cylinder choke unless it is the improved modified which is not very common.
